  1. Aye, well I've spent the day shopping for curtains. Now that's real pain.
  2. Aye, I just wanted to pick you up on your irresponsible use of figures really , you'll get no argument from me that some things in London can be eye-wateringly expensive. All the more so as a tourist/traveller I guess. Speaking of Hamburg, I'm on a whistlestop trip next month, you up for a coffee Georg-side if our respective schedules allow?
  3. I wonder if it'll have an impact on the fare structure like in Lahndan (paper single tickets rendered largely obsolete by making it much cheaper to use Oyster). The Metro could use it - I travelled from Lewisham to just past Twickenham for £3 each way today. Regent Centre to Haymarket is £2.60 now I think.
  4. There's a difference between canvassing, where you're actively going to knock on people's doors and talk to them - about local issues, where their vote might go etc. - and just delivering leaflets, where you might only talk to someone if they happen to be at the door at the time, doing something in the garden or whatever. They were doing both today but I've always categorically refused to do the former, even when helping out my dad. Fortunately most people accept it when you say you're not from around there and just helping out a friend so you know fuck-all about their schools/trains/rubbish collections. I quite like the slander idea though...
  5. Knackered. Been out all day delivering leaflets for a friend who's standing for election in May. Didn't have to talk to many actual people though. Getting all over some Chinese takeaway imminently.
  6. €5.90 (€7.30 if you want to travel before 9am). £2.20 to go anywhere in Zone 1. And if you choose to go two stops by Tube rather than walking it, none of the supplements in the world will help you.
  7. My uncle and aunt used to redecorate every year without fail. Every year. I don't understand it. Anyway, that violet looks like something from an old folks' home. Ask her if she's quite ready to retire and die.
  8. Being in London we're obviously still renting (which Thatcherites no doubt see as just as much a sign of failure as a grown-up using the bus), so don't want to make the place over too much as we'd only have to return it to magnolia blandness again when we move out. Magnolia blandness is OK though - there's not all that much blank space around the living room walls anyway because we've got so many books, CDs, DVDs and stuff - which I think look awesome out on display, especially the books - and one of the walls is taken up by a massive and pretty ugly (but really convenient) TV/storage unit that the landlord couple apparently thought was a good idea. Anyway, can't imagine I'd be bothered with painting and decorating much even we did own the place - framed photos/posters, ornamental displays and things like that on otherwise bland walls are more my style and you can chop and change them more easily.
  9. You can't use an ampersand in a hashtag.
  10. We prefer the term "heemasexual"
  11. Off to Dublin next month, that'll come in handy.
  12. Non-alcoholic aperitifs. I'm not even kidding. I haven't actually tried either yet but they've got them at the local Italian deli so I'm tempted to investigate...
  13. Not even to extol the virtues of Crodino and Sanbitter?
  14. They'll be giving them the vote next
  15. "Blasphemy is a highly sensitive issue in Pakistan, where 97% of the population are Muslim. Muslims constitute a majority of those prosecuted, followed by the minority Ahmadi community." Cheers Beeb, wouldn't have worked that one out.
  16. Still, one to bear in mind for the "You wouldn't make jokes about the Islams" brigade...
  17. http://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2014/01/23/19451/christians_force_comedy_show_to_cancel The United Kingdom in the 21st century, there.
  18. It's been tried before... https://www.facebook.com/pages/Petition-to-Have-the-Rubberbandits-Represent-Ireland-in-Eurovision-2011/148575225192432 ...and again... https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Rubberbandits-for-Eurovision-2012/202831753086502 ...and again... http://www.imt.ie/opinion/2013/05/rubberbandits-for-eurovision-2014.html ...which obviously means RTE will choose a stirring ballad with panpipes this year.
