  1. I don't think I'd be much use on the front line but I'm sure I'd help to man a doomed Les Mis-style barricade if they got to the gates of my neighbourhood. Realistically though - in addition to actual fighters, I assume they'd be looking to recruit for all types of roles in that scenario, and I suppose being a cunning linguist could be useful to the intelligence services or something? I wouldn't refuse that kind of thing purely because the powers that be are a bunch of cathwords, no - not when the alternative being posited is somewhat worse, to say the least. But if they wanted me to be cannon fodder I'd definitely be more of a hindrance than a help.
  2. He went to my schools in Gosforth, which I'd say is fairly Geordie, albeit soft-as-clarts Geordie. Granted, this will have been before the local government reform act so it'll still have been in Northumberland at the time, but acting like it's not always been a Newcastle suburb is bizarre like.
  3. I checked with the medical examiner. He told me "girl, you know it's true".
  4. Frank Farian, the mastermind behind Boney M (and, of course, Milli Vanilli ) Ra-Ra-
  5. So this seems... actually useful and integrated and well thought-out. Is there a catch I'm missing?
  6. Unusual nickname for her, is she French?
  7. I wouldn't be teaching Spanish or CT's lad, so all good
  8. Cheers all. I've been there nearly 18 years so there'll be a decent wedge of statutory coming my way if it happens, so I can't really complain too much compared with some of the young 'uns whom it'll hit hard. Obviously morale around the place is at rock bottom which doesn't make it an especially lovely place to work regardless of who survives and who doesn't, but you're not supposed to like work, are you? Not really. I landed in translation by accident in the first place so I expect to end up doing something similarly random. Part-time running coach, part-time librarian, that kind of thing.
  9. Meanwhile, the translation industry is firmly up shit creek and my company's revenue is way down so the axe is a-swingin'. My whole team has been classified as "at risk" and I've just had my first consultation meeting but they're still not sure as to what extent the redundancies will take, just that some (at least) will be necessary. Not a massive surprise really. Meenzer's next job could be in cyber (he just doesn't know it yet)
  10. If it had been Diane Abbott...
  11. That whole episode was one of the campest things I've ever seen. Magnificent telly.
  12. Praising the high land and property values in Newcastle? Mag behaviour, that.
  13. I said, you wouldn't have had much fun in Stalingrad, would you?
  14. There were words in the advert?
  15. I'll bite: can you clarify what you mean by "all this fan thing"?
  16. They say late at night, you can hear the mournful cries of "CUNT..." echoing around the graveyard
