  1. We could dye Susan Calman's hair a bit darker and see if we can get away with persuading people it's her and she's defected.
  2. Another decent analysis, worth it for the title alone. http://foreignpolicy.com/2017/06/09/that-time-theresa-may-forgot-that-elections-came-with-opponents-brexit-hung-parliament/amp/
  3. Hungary just lost to Andorra.
  4. Thought there was some interesting stuff in here, in terms of not spinning this as a victory and so on (ignore the slightly misleading title). I know a few people here have said Gardiner's been one of the more persuasive performers on the Labour side and I'm minded to agree.
  5. Seems a reasonable summary of the Labour experience, from this relative outsider's POV anyway: http://www.versobooks.com/blogs/3261-reality-is-running
  6. I suppose she can reasonably assume they'll support her on most things even without any formal agreement.
  7. Aye, I think Corbyn's quiet and principled thing has been a boon in the last few weeks in particular, and that ought to continue. He should set some of the lower-status attack dogs on May though.
  8. Does Theresa May actually know she didn't win the election?
  9. We just don't like any hint of political compromise in this country, even though ironically a pragmatic cross-party Brexit team would be the best way to make the whole thing any kind of success at all. But imagine the cost at the ballot box, etc. etc.
  10. Well, it did give us a stable government with a majority in 2015. I wonder what happened to them...
  11. Surely people can see that FPTP has run its course now. Though of course by definition you're never going to see much will to change it from the party in power.

    Pet Hates!

Aye. Jonatan Cerrada's "À chaque pas" here. Bloody diacritics, coming over here, ruining our playlists.
  13. I'm a little surprised he stood again, the writing was on the wall, but there you go. Meanwhile, thread. The fun just keeps on coming.
  14. This concerns me too. But that's for another day. For now I'm just reconciling myself with the idea of being somehow happy at an election result that produces a Tory winner. Politics, ffs.
  15. I'm flagging. Can't decide whether to stay up for Rudd or not. There's always this:
  16. Knives out from Gideon. Sorry if already posted, I absolutely cannot juggle this place, Twitter, a Eurovision chatroom, various WhatsApp groups and actually watching the telly, and that's sober. I don't know how anyone on the fake rum can cope.
  17. Toontastic breeds wise minds.
  18. Aye, at least it suggests there might be plenty of churn at constituency level rather than any kind of uniform swing, so fuck knows really.
  19. Yeah, even with a similar majority it takes us back into this territory ...which is still hilarious for May, who surely wouldn't survive for long, but not especially hilarious for the country. Ho hum.
