Somehow I dont think the waters will calm themselves this time.. its a step too far. Players, Coaches and managers - all replacable and somewhat expendable. Once you start tampering with the very essence of the club though... even those who do not care about fotball find this repulsive..
-
What would it accomplish though? "Oh lookie a protest". doubt He would give two fucks. What we need to do is bring banners of his competitors and just cover up everything
-
Should be a petition not to show up for the chelsea game. Make Info stands with flyers outside SJP and hand it out generously. Would be fantastic. Also - banners with Sportsdirect competitors on as many stands as possible.
-
Everybody reflects on the stupidity of thinking big names would come knocking. What they should be debating is why they feel the need to change the name before they even have a sponsor. Cant believe why journos are not on top of this and see the cunts for what they really are and are after - a smokescreen in order to "temporarily ( for free ofc)" advertise the shit out of SJP..sorry SportsDirect Arena for the foreseeable future.
-
Media is buying it though. Loads of pundits debating whether they will actually find anyone

an Empty ground would send out a signal alright. Dont show up for Newcastle - Chelsea. Simple

Bang on most of it too. But way too hopeful, even mentioning "war chests" is hilarious, it will never happen. It appears we need 35 million + selling the St.James park name in order to bring in a 5 million pound striker. Advertising money invested in the squad?
-
As someone else on here said, its not about all the small incidents themselves, but the bigger picture. The name change in advance, the adds, letters being taken down... they will never sell it, forget about any XX millions. Its going to be free advertising. If some company called them today I am pretty sure they would get an "unofficial" not for sale... Honestly, like Chez said - I am just a racist Norwegian Mug without any ties to the city - but Im in pieces. All the optimism and good vibes wiped away instantly. Id rather we go down than this, results and league standings are just passing incidents in history, but this is the heart and soul of the only team in the city. I honestly struggle looking forward atm. At this point I cant allow myself to let the team hold me hostage anymore. If protests, boicotts and sabotage is the only way to get to this cunt, so be it. I could give a shit about our squad, they will all be replaced within a few years anyway, those worth their salt anyway. Anyone who can turn a profit will be flogged. Cabaye, Ba, Tiote, Colo, Krul, all off as soon as we get a 10-15 million offer in. So why should I care? Just temporary involuntary mercenaries lured into coming here. If we got a genuine fotball-fan as an owner of this club, willing to TRY to keep our best players, I would have no problems being relegated down to League 1. Actually, League 1 + genuine decent owner on the table, I`d take your hand off. 3rd atm, who cares? Team is gone as soon as someone whips out the chequebook anyway.

Exactly. It'll become the norm for kids. St James' Park is no more. Kids won't care they'll get used to every poisoned media vehicle ramming SDA down their throats, and for what 5 or 10m? 5-10m will make fuck all difference anyway, we're the 7th team in this country, and still £30m behind the 6th team. Desperately sad day for NUFC, not really much more to say apart from ignore the WUMs Make that £ 0.00, as the SD name is here to stay for eternity..... ( insert evil laugh here)
-
Its a void debate, as any "would be" sponsor is dead in the water anyway. Its just a con to further sprinkle SD excrements over the stadium. This time with a name tag attached.
-
We live in a global media society today though, so when you hear Sports Direct Arena on the radio and telly, read about it in the papers and on the internet all at the same time, at some point people are just going to think "fuck it" and start calling it that too, regardless of what people in the pub think. Why use an old name you risk having to explain in order to continue the conversation. St.James park name is gone and soon forgotten, sadly. Also, how can people argue that the increased income will propel us upwards on the league table with any sort of credit? There is nothing in the last 5 years that indicates that those money - in any shape or form - will reach the team. Airdrops in africa have a better shot at reaching the intended recipients....
-
Course you can. Salzburg have had about five different names in twenty years. Red Bull Salzburg they're called now. We havent seen shit yet then. Wouldnt surprise me if that change is in the pipelines as well. And Im sure Chez wont mind that either.. team positive haway..
-
Genuine question, can you change a teams very name - legally speaking? Also, if you are to sell the stadium name - why not just call it St.James Park until a buyer shows up? Why rename it in the process and piss everyone off for a temporary name? I just dont buy it, I think we are gonna get stuck with this name for the foreseeable future. And they wont pay a penny for it, so unfortunately that wont free up any funds for further purchases. we might have to replace a few players next summer though...
-
At least for a few years until a new generation grows up. To them it has always been SD arena. You`d be surprised how quick people forget.
-
Yeah , a name means fuck all. Does sir fancy Sports Direct United? I could talk for hours about the history and cultural heritage of my city, not to a racist norwegian mug though. Name means fuck all then, got it. Even I, sitting in polar bear country, find this sad. Baffled that a geordie like yourself dont mind it at all. In a generation St.James Park will be a name you will have to look up on wikipedia and read about, noone will be using it except for old people.

Any kind of protest or boicott may affect the teams performance though. Its a proper catch 22. Ashley is basically holding the team hostage for all kinds of vile dispositions while gently whispering "shhhh you may affect the team" when people start rattling their pitchforks...
-
You mean the striker we have been promised for a year with 35 mill rotting in the bank and sweet fuck all spent this summer?
-
What The Chronicle needs to do is take a fucking stand and keep referring to our home ground as St. James park. Im gonna vomit every time I read "Sports direct arena"
-
Waiting for the usual suspects to come riding in saying Arsenal City etc have done the same thing, and if the choice is Champions league fotball or the name what would you have. I wont even bother replying, Im sure we wont see a fucking penny of the "increased income". Let’s be realistic here - there is no way that Ashley has any intention of selling the naming rights to St James Park. This is nothing more than a cynical attempt for him to cash in his investment in the club with ample free advertising for sports direct. Lets just look at the ridiculous amount of branding he's already graffitied throughout the stadium. If he was actually paying for any of the enormous signage he's already put up, or more importantly, sold the space to others, there would already be millions flowing into the club. Instead? He gets it all for free. Ah yes, Sportsdirect simply being the temporary name... not holding my breath on that one.
