  1. We could have responsibly spent a hell of a lot more than we have done though, wonder what league position that would have put us in. Even moderate spending with a scout like Carr could have fired us straight into the top 4, seing as arsenal seems reluctant to spend anything and Liverpool spends fortunes on tripledecker shit-sandwiches. We could easily have had a squad rivalling tottenham in depth by simply spending the carroll money and another 10-15 mill from the sales this summer. That isnt going to happen because Mike wants to recuperate his losses, but even when we are barely firing on half our sylinders spendingwise ( understatement of the year) we are doing very well, thanks to our scouts. So rather than moan about what could have been, I just enjoy fotball for the time being. Aint nothing gonna come out of typing whines rivalling Lord of the rings length-wise...
  2. Dont think anyone disagrees that the success is despite of Mike rather than because of it... Instead of being in debt everywhere, we have a huge debt to mike. Still..
  3. Manchester Uniteds group are an absolute joke. How they are even remotely close to fucking this up is beyond me. Sunderland could have advanced from that group.
  4. it wasn't. If NUFC had shown the ambition under the Westwoods, McKeags etc that they did under the Halls and Shepherd, they could have done the same thing. If Mike Ashley had the ambiton to succeed on the pitch other than be a feeder club to advertise Sports Direct, sell our best players, and never build on any half decent team that may be put together, then he could do it too. But he won't. You and others will be sitting here in 5 years time ie 5 more years of his "plan", saying "we can build on this platform now". It ISN'T going to happen. You get me wrong, stop lumping me in with the lot who complained about the last board. I agreed with you then and still do. The point am making is that the playing field was more even back then, it's ridiculous to claim otherwise. That means it would be more of an achievement today to sustain multiple CL and EU league campaigns, not doing it once but lots. The reasons are obvious to me: imagine we are a company competing in a domestic market with 20 others. The success of the company depends on using roughly similar levels of resources as everyone else as best as possible. There are differences, due to location some companies have more and more loyal customers, some have invested better than others and have better facilities and one or two have sold a small % of their company to local private investors, helping them compete better for scarce but local / national resources. Now fast forward 20 years and one or two companies have been bought by the state and they are given subsidies that the others dont get. Some of these subsidised companies can then access international labour markets to cream the best talents from abroad. They also can be inefficient and produce costly goods but still compete because of the subsidy. Two or three of the recently successful companies were also granted export licenses that the others didn't get, this allowed them to sell goods to the far east and generate more revenues to invest in better facilities. Now, tell me how this isn't the premier league and how the competition is still the same? If people don't get this point then I highly recommend avoiding a career in the private sector. Or don't expect much from it anyway. so because TWO clubs are owned by multi millionaires who have thrown money at the respective clubs, it makes it impossible for NUFC to exist above and compete higher than the levels of all the other clubs ? The last board competed against their rivals, just like Mike Ashley. Mike Ashley will NEVER even attempt to compete at the levels that tap this football club like his predecessors. The entire ownership of Mike Ashley is going to be a never ending circle of people wondering when we will "build on this platform". It ISN't going to happen. He will always sell our best players and shop around for Netto replacements. We know. Nothing to do about it. Its like complaining about not being 4 inches taller every morning when you wake up. Whats the point.
  5. Scottish fotball....scottish players....
  6. 10 years ago neither city nor tottenham ( or chelsea for that matter) were anything remotely close to today. Top spots were up for grabs, today top6 is pretty much locked hence its a far bigger achievement today.
  7. Has any of you geordies watched this lad live? Hearing great things about him, also that "most valuable player" award during Nike cup puts him in some very exclusive company with players such as Torres, Tevez etc.... Future #9? Also has the looks tbf...
  8. Looking beyond the league position, 8 points less and about 10 teams within 1-2 points... very similar yes..
  9. Were we really in a similar position after 12 games last year? After having a lookie, Im inclined to disagree..
  10. No, I just added a zero as thats what it would be in norwegian currency. I believe I corrected the error ?
  11. Had a look at their financials now, seems like their CL-run increased their revenue by 35-50 million pounds depending on how you look at it..
  12. Accident waiting to happen...until it happened vs city.... we would have lost that game 9 out of 10 anyways though, but a bit sad that we would probably have to slip on a banana vs some shite team due to him for santon to start..
  13. Well, his wages make me wary about calling him that just yet... 80 grand a week or more adds up.. 4 million pounds a year almost...
  14. or was it 35 mill? Maybe I read about it in a Norwegian newspaper, 1 pound = 10 norwegian kroners... my apologies
  15. From what Im told Harry just picks the best starting 11 and then lets them loose on the pitch. Very laissez-faire and by the sounds of it should not be that hard to replicate for a skilled manager... Unless he starts implementing his own tactics and that way screw up the team somehow... perhaps just letting them play fotball is excactly how `arry is so successful. Fuck knows..
  16. Forgot about QPR - good shout. Probably the team I worry about the most... But they cant possibly qualify for EL in their first year of PL...can they?
  17. The question for me is - what team aside from the top 6 ( which will probably comfortably pass us during the spring season lets be honest ) will overtake our 15 point lead? I cant see any. So I agree, worst case scenario we finish 7th. Im already booking a double-room for me and Tecato for our away-matches in europe
  18. And raked in 350 mill last year on their CL run. Zero success.. that would be beating Milan and reaching the quarter-finals on the first attempt then?
  19. If he can rename St. James, he can rename the club. Will be interesting to watch the people on N-O defend that
  20. Watching ttham - villa yesterday, it strikes me what a pathetic side villa has become. 0-2 and 15 minutes to go, they are parking the bus. We will finish higher this season, no fight at all in them. Stoke seems to have gone on a sunderland spring run, and sunderland are what, 15 points behind us. Is Everton the only team we should worry about? Thoughts please... Norwich and Swansea seems fresh and hungry, but I reckon they will run out of steam after christmas like most teams newly promoted...
  21. It depends, is he a owen who likes cashing in while warming the bench, or does he want to play? The lad will never have to worry about money, fotball being his life I doubt he fancies the sideline. Just guessing though. Is tripling your wage worth not playing fotball? at 33-34, maybe. at 22? Dunno. He has accomplished fuck all so far in his career, I reckon he would take our hand of if we offered him 35 grand a week to play as our #9 again.
  22. Ok so carroll was 21 at the time and not 20, apologies
  23. thats a load of bollocks though, a big lone target man (carroll is not as pacy nor as good a finisher as Ba imo) wouldnt work in our current setup, we don't play like we did with everything going through barton to carroll anymore, its a lot more on the ground and team play oriented Ba wins his fair share in the air, though not as much as carroll would, but hes a better all rounder which is what we need from our main striker the quality is quality argument is whats kept people sticking gerrard and lampard together in englands midfield despite the fact its unbalanced and obviously never worked for the team, players to suit the system is whats needed nowadays, not ram a bunch in and see if a system works itself out, the reason Aguero and Silva work is because A) they play in the right way to work in man citys team and B ) theyre both absolutely world class footballers who can do stuff even other good pros cant with ease The fault in your logic is that you refer to carroll as a finished article. He smashed in 12 goals by december at the age of 20, who`s to say he wouldnt be able to adapt or evolve into a better player if we kept fielding him? Ba, by comparison, is 27 and might well have peaked already...time will tell... my point is that there is no knowing how good andy would have become if he stayed here....
