Anyone got statistics on how 4th after 13 games ended up, historically? If we grab 1 point a game for the rest of the season ( relegation form really), we will end up with 51 points, which should be enough for top-8.

Tiote out confirmed. Happy with a point then. -
They were wank last fall as well, and haway they ended up in the CL-final as well as a nice little barclays bucket regardless... The thing with fergie is that even when they ARE wank, they grind out wins... so dips in form still sees them 3 points every other week as they churn out 2-1 wins and the like..so that when they do pick up form again they are not far behind if any at all.

but very few decisions are made without him approving of it.

Team Positive just got a new member?! Im just thinking out loud how it could have been with a decent owner. I know in reality, we are probably gonna stamp price tags on half our first team in january and flog people for fun and end 10th. I realise we are not going to challenge for CL but if we are to secure european places, we have to at least aim for the CL places. If the ENTIRE carroll-sum were invested into new players hand-picked by Carr, we would have had new wingers, another striker, better backup for taylor and colo and even more depth in the midfield. That in my book could make it possible to shamelessly snag a 4th or 5th should one of the top teams have a dip in form. Why not? If Everton can do it, so can we. -

What does a rocket surgeon do?? As for Enrique, you seriously think we can have a tilt at the champions league without spending a fucking fortune? Hey Jose we are signing Miaga you want to sign?? Ja,Ja,ja 4th in the league come new years, Ba firing on all cylinders, another class striker coming in, player group ecstatic and the club being talked about everywhere - I cant help but think that at least the point of departure for contract negotiations would be significantly different from what they were this summer. Rocket surgeon is just a joke expression - rocket scientist and brain surgeon melted into one.. Challenging for CL without spending a fortune? With Carr, yes. I dont think you have to spend 150 million to do it, thats just the easy way of becoming instant contenders, by signing the "it" players everyone is talking about. Give Carr a genuine warchest consisting of what we got for Carroll and I think he could have found 6-7 top-class players from France and Netherlands... Whether 35 mill is an absolute fortune is of cource up for debate, though. -

Box-to-box perhaps then. Yeah I watch quite alot of tottenhams games, modric is to me a cleaner who also likes running with the ball and spraying passes further up. In the 2010-2011 season he seemed to have adopted a defensive midfield role in addition to to playmaking, but if we are getting into semantics thats okay, sorry. Last I heard the sums involved surpassed 40 million... -

Aye, good point. I sort of agree with jay but these things aren't as cut and dry as he is making out. Modric doesn't want to be at Spurs, he made that pretty clear. They didn't sell him and he's playing well by all accounts. He has a 6 year contract, Enrique was coming into the last year. I still reckon Modric will be off soon anyway as they will receive a mega money offer they can't turn down You mean as in a 43 million pound offer? Yeah they turned that down. I struggle to see who would offer 50-60 million pounds for a defensive midfielder who isnt scoring for fun.... and Noone in their right mind would go from Tottenham to Chelsea now - things being the way they are currently. -

I think Enrique just wanted a side showing ambition. Liverpool are not in the CL and as such not in a position to pick and choose from the top shelf, so they are left with spending fortunes on the next best thing, english players who command a premium and value the club history. I`d wager Enrique felt our side was going nowhere with all the departures and noone coming in for big money during the summer, and as such he probably didnt buy into the long term plan, if there is one. He doesnt strike me as a rocket surgeon, so if Dekka approached him and said " look, we are gonna sell him and him and him, buy him and him and him, do this and this and this - and aim for europe this season, and have a dig at CL next year" - I genuinely believe he could have bought into it. That combined with our current league position - yeah I think he would have signed a new deal with Maiga, Giroud etc coming in as well. Alas, we will never know will we. -
Ah I see Alex also has relations with the venerable vegan-Elaine...

"want to be here" is a very loose term. Does Luka Modric like it at tottenham? He wanted away in in summer, transfer request and everything. Players are like kids, their preferences changes daily helped by agents always wanting a piece of the pie and whispering them tales of greatness. Sometimes they need to be put in place and told to focus on fotball. Noone wants to be here given the right offer from another club. You gotta play hardball sometimes, tell them to stay put and play fotball. Gerrard and chelsea anno 2005 comes to mind... -

enrique wanting away was a matter of the hen and egg though. Might not have happened if we actually spent during summer. He wanted away because we didnt invest. -
Just watched Lion king, best film ever made?! On topic, signing Pieters in January? He has a broken foot, golden opportunity to sign him for a cutprice, 3 million being the latest sum thrown around..

Watching the match Tecato. Its like Wigan - Liverpool .. -
Carroll has honestly forgotten how to play fotball. He cant even make a pass
-
Chelsea look like a genuine midtable team. Even at 0-2 they struggle to create anything let alone put pressure on liverpool
-
chelsea getting rinced..
-
He doesnt deserve any credit. Pardew deserves credit. and Carr deserves credit. Mike just sits in his office with a shut purse and a sandwich and telling people to find cheap prospects with resale-value. The man has no clue whatsoever when it comes to fotball.
-
He is a cock who doesnt want to invest. No results will change that. But God have decided to make us top-4 just for the lulz. Im having fun too harassing other clubs fans. Long may the success continue.

Leazes, I agree with everything you say - just so we got that clear. Mike is on a giant saving spree, but it COULD have been worse. He could have spent fuck all and just sold off everyone and replacing them with academy youngsters. The reason he doesnt do that is because that jeopardizes our existence in the premier league, so he HAS to inject A LITTLE in order to keep us floating. He reckoned the best way of doing that was gambling on proven Ligue 1 players - since they are so cheap - while still being good - and having a tradition of transitioning to the EPL style of play quite good as proven in other clubs. Now - Mike aimed for mid-table mediocracy, but he got lucky. for some reason we take way more points than expected. He still plans to flog everyone though given the right offer, Im sure of that. But before throwing ourselves under rocks and crying, the players who go WILL be replaced with cheaper options. Who COULD turn out just as good. So for the time being, we are doing well - and even if we lose players, we could still end up doing well. Glass half-full and all that. -

There isnt a single person on here who thinks our summer pickings and bargain signings are due to Mikes brilliant big plan to fire us into the CL-places slowly and in due time. We have a brilliant scout who operate on a shoestring, for some reason that is enough to be top dogs in PL at the moment. I`ll put it down to other teams inability to do the same, not our fantastic owner though.
