The OFFICIAL Transfer Rumours Thread 2018 -2019
rogerbarton replied to Anorthernsoul's topic in Newcastle Forum
Are the takeover rumours delaying business? Should we even be expecting anything this early in the window? I've seen a few bed wetters on Twitter but I'm not panicking yet. Ben Arfa definitely doesn't seem like a Benitez player, I agree, but he is exactly the type of flair player we need. Remember he never successfully played number 10 for us though. -
I suppose Pulis could resign the week before the season, too. In which case I'd be worried for them.
-
Who is it that decides to keep this bloke on pundit duty? I remember talking to someone in radio who said phone-in hosts would make a career out of being hated enough to keep people listening. Owen, while annoying as shit, is surely too inane for that.
-
If summer goes according to plan we should be absolutely fine. How on earth West Brom are shorter odds than Bournemouth I'm not so sure.
-
That makes sense to be honest. I'm a Mitro fan but we can't take any risks on him at this level. That would leave us with Gayle, Abrahams and Armstrong, so it's likely we'd want two more in.
-
What do we reckon? Every Bristol City fan I've spoken to (okay, that's two and some bloke on Twitter) seems to think he'll cut the mustard. I'm hoping we'll bring in someone established as well though.
-
Remember the strike he wrongly had chalked off against Man City too? He usually couldn't hit a barn door but his two goals were absolute worldies. Always gave his best for the team, even in the latter years when he played a much smaller part. RIP.

The OFFICIAL Transfer Rumours Thread 2018 -2019

To be fair, he's been playing in midfield for Bournemouth for his entire career til Christmas time. Since he's moved to play as a striker his form has been prolific. -
Well, it's all gone better than I could have imagined a few weeks ago. Still wary of Ashley, but it does seem like Rafa has convinced him to get behind him in a way McClaren or Pardew never could have. The idea we'll be spending as much as anyone outside the top 6 is encouraging too.

Dashing isn't it?

Feels weird that it's all over now. Can't say I'd want to go through that season again, even though we were I think definitively the best team in the division. The officiating is dreadful - and did us no favours, every other team raises their game when they play us, the pressure to get out of there is severe. Look forward to seeing what plans Rafa puts in place for the PL now. Genuinely the most excited I've been since Ashley came into town. There haven't been any leaks after the initial Rafa - Ashley meeting which I'm taking as a good sign that it wasn't a disaster...

Just looking at net spend this season in the PL - a few interesting takeaways: 1) Man City - £151m 2) Man United - £117m 3) Arsenal - £87m 4) Crystal Palace - £43m 5) Burnley - £37m 6) West Ham - £36m 7) Boro - £33m 8) Stoke - £30m 9) Tottenham - £26m 10) Leicester - £22m Intriguing that both Burnley and Boro realised they had to spend quite a lot to try and get a footing in the PL. Even Hull spent £10m. But, though I imagine spending will again increase this year, £70m would clearly have us being pretty competitive. Should be enough to convince Rafa to stay if it's true. One other titbit - I'm more appreciative of what Jurgen Klopp's doing given they apparently made a £4m profit on player sales... https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/premier-league/transfers/wettbewerb/GB1

Wow, that really shows how dreadful we were last season. Wouldn't have said we spent half the season in 19th place. Really makes you wonder why McClaren didn't go A LOT sooner.

The more I watched that goal, the more ridiculously brilliant it was. He doesn't even take a touch first. Incredible. If anyone wants to watch it again:

You couldn't really pick a bigger bunch of wankers than Key, Bellamy and Sherwood. Unfortunately Bellers just comes across as embittered after the whole Shearer / Carver furore.
-
They couldn't really have an easier game on the face of it, since Bristol City are pretty much safe. That said, they've got 18 points from their last 10 games, including 3 wins and 1 draw in the last 4...

Normally find .com a bit too cynical for my liking, but even they've found time to be positive about Rafa. Thought these lines were a good summary: Regardless of that however, tonight was a case of mission accomplished for Benitez, who arrived at a failing club barely 14 months ago. He may not have got here in time to avoid relegation, but he's managed to restore competence, commitment and belief in both the dressing room and the stands - a monumental achievement.
-
Like the poll Cardiff have been hit and miss since they guaranteed safety with a good run. I'm sure Warnock will have them up for this game, but with our confidence back I fancy us to win it.

Wasn't he trying to charge £400m when Keegan went? Obviously we were a different proposition back then like. Don't forget that Ashley's net worth has decreased dramatically in the last two years as Sports Direct struggles. He might be looking at NUFC as a business interest that can turn a decent profit for him.

HM Revenue and customs Investigating NUFC
rogerbarton replied to ToonMarshy's topic in Newcastle Forum
Nearly 200 officers from HMRC took part in the raids, seizing computers, mobile phones and paperwork, with the French authorities making similar raids and arrests at locations in France. A statement issued by the HMRC stated: “HMRC has arrested several men working within the professional football industry for a suspected Income Tax and National Insurance fraud. “180 HMRC officers have been deployed across the UK and France today. Investigators have searched a number of premises in the North East and South East of England and arrested the men and also seized business records, financial records, computers and mobile phones. “The French authorities are assisting the UK investigation, have made arrests and several locations have been searched in France. This criminal investigation sends a clear message that, whoever you are, if you commit tax fraud you can expect to face the consequences. As this is an ongoing investigation HMRC is unable to provide any further detail at this time.” https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/apr/26/newcastle-west-ham-raided-hmrc-tax-fraud-investigation-transfers-lee-charnley-arrested -
I think Brexit has been a facilitator in people switching to the Tories. Almost like an excuse for doing the unthinkable. May being a lot more relatable than most of their past leaders also helps.
-
Depending on which of them go down, I'd say Maguire at Hull and Mawson at Swansea could be good centre back options. Shouldn't be ridiculously expensive, either. Question is whether we might want someone a bit more experienced in at CB?

When have we ever played a home FA Cup tie in front of a half empty stadium? Not in my memory...

Wigan and Blackburn are both nothing clubs that should never have been near the Premier League. The further they go down the better
