FA given Permission to speak to Roy Hodgson over England job
rogerbarton replied to Tooj's topic in Newcastle Forum
Have those in charge at BBC Sport, ITV Sport or Sky Sports ever thought about putting successful managers, who have perhaps shown tactical astuteness and would be able to analyse the game effectively, on their punditry teams? And, if not, couldn't they just get entertaining characters like that Eamonn Dunphy fella off RTE into the studio? I'm sick and tired of boring shite like Merson, Souness, Southgate, Keane, Claridge etc. showing up. As for the BBC's team, it'll be interesting to hear from Klinnsman, who I respect, although I seem to remember Seedorf offering little in the way of English last time -
Football's a mad game, fellas. I certainly wouldn't stake too much on Spuds beating Fulham or L'Arse getting 3 points for Woy's farewell at The Hawthornes

Saw the Raul rumours. Who is making this stuff up now?! Completely founded in fantasy world given our transfer policy for the last two or three years. I suppose going to Russia or UAE will pay for a luxurious lifestyle for the rest of his life. Seems like Butterfield is coming in now, another player I have seen absolutely nothing of but heard very promising reports.

Think this'll be one hell of a game like. Cannot wait Would love it, just love it if Villa beat Spuds too. That'd leave us needing 4 pts out of the last two games.

Every time I see it it gets better and, frankly, more ridiculous. The swerve is just crazy. It is a cliche but it really does get better every time. By the way, did Cisse score goals like this for Freiburg? Cos I seem to remember the highlights of his goals for them were mostly one on ones...

Biggest transformation I've ever seen in a player. Has echoes of Warren Barton actually, although to a much bigger extent. He deserves to keep that RB slot for the last two games in my opinion.

That was probably the most astonishing part of the night like! Willo, who normally looks terrified if the ball comes near him, going for a stopover and whipping back a couple of their players down the right wing. And in the same phase of play Ben Arfa whacked in to win a 50-50 if I recall correctly! -

He's been like that all season like. I wouldn't be surprised if he's covered the most ground of any of our players this season, he's only missed the one game for suspension and the work rate of the fella if outstanding, I think he's been a big part of our defensive efforts all season. He's one of my favourite players, a real asset to the team. -

To be honest, Jonas was exhausted out there and I would rather have seen Ferguson (was he on the bench?) brought on for him than Obertan for Ben Arfa -

That was just one of those astonishing goals and moments that I'll never forget. Love goals like that that just come out of nowhere. The swerve on it man. Absolutely outstanding player. Great fucking win tonight, makes up for that aberration at Wigan. Three horse race for CL with Arse and Spuds who have two easyish games left -

Perchinho really has been outstanding tonight. If he keeps up his recent form there's a very real debate between him and Simpson for RB. What's up with Simmo like? -

I think Bolton'll equalise second half. We could do with Spuds losing like. -

Fantastic first half. Only blemish for me is that I think we should be 2 up. Still, that's the beauty of football - who'd have thought at the start of the season that we'd see 45 minutes where Wigan dominate us and score 4 and then 45 minutes where we play Chelski off the park a few days later?! Cabaye and Tiote outstanding, Cisse pure class, Ba - how has he not scored still?! Ben Arfa a real threat and Santon looks like a class winger! Special praise for Perchinho though, he's been outstanding again. That ball he smashed out when Colo and Willo were out of position was brilliant. Oh, and thought the universe was about to implode when Williamson took on a couple of players down the right wing towards the end -

I s'pose the pressure is back off us after that crash back down to earth yesterday too which could work in our favour. We'll go there as underdogs, we're all happy with Europa League anyway tbh and we can all just enjoy the game and hope for the best! What would be really fucking gutting would be missing out on the final day at Everton or finishing 4th and Chelski winning the CL. -

Woy's good at overachieving with limited teams. Perfect appointment then. Can't deny his teams aren't better organised or he isn't more tactically adept than 'Arry. -

Can only be a good thing for us if things are going well at Sports Direct? Guarantee if things were going down the shitter he'd be much tighter here and with our recent upturn in fortunes he might be willing to spend a little more money here -

Chelski's run has to end some time like. It's been an incredible run with a heavy degree of fortune so hopefully we can shut the yobbo wankers up. We had a couple of good trips there last year. By the way, it's always puzzled me...where the fuck do the Chelsea fans come from? -
Well they've both reached the point where they're going out of Europe before September and the quality of teams in League 1 wouldn't be much different to the rest of the SPL. It'd certainly be worth it for them both but I'm not sure whether we really want added competition in the Premier League (possibly eventually) cos they have the fan base to work with. I know a lot of Celtic fans and respect the origins of the club and like said fans, but they aren't half an arrogant bunch with an inflated sense of their importance to the rest of the world. They do find identity in their club but the rest of us couldn't give a fuck

Guaranteed we'll turn up here after the Wigan game. It'll be a bit like the games at the Emirates and Old Trafford I reckon, we'll defend quite well, Simpson'll clear off the line and it'll be very tight. We are good on the counter attack with Ben Arfa/Cabaye/Cisse -

It was one of those where I woke up not believing what had happened. Crazy in any situation that we could ever lose 4-0 to Wigan. With regards the ACN point, you only need to look at Demba Ba in some of the games since then and compare him to before. He looks more tired and listless. He has had some good games and linked up well on the left but yesterday he gave the ball away frequently and the shot that flashed wide I could have easily seen him scoring back in December. I would say he needs a rest but 3 games to go and none to replace him kinda rules that out... -
So who actually thinks we will finish 4th?
rogerbarton replied to Kid Dynamite's topic in Newcastle Forum
It certainly isn't over like. Still in our own hands and I hope we go to Chelski and make a fist of it like we have done most of the season. We've consistently bounced back from ridiculous results so I'm hoping for the same again. Also, Chelski will have an FA Cup final to think about as well as the rest of their congested fixture list. -

Needless to say, Wigan suffocated us first half. Came out and played some lovely stuff, used the width of the pitch and scored a couple of crackers. As for us, we never got going. The early tactics were long balls that didn't come off, Cabaye and Ben Arfa weren't given a touch first half, Ba was woeful in the first 45 and they had too much for our defence which looked as weak as the Spuds/Fulham games back in January. Not sure what to make of it, cos it was a million miles off last week and all the previous six games really. Chelski are a team on form so it's going to have to be a special effort to come back from this at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday. -
