Quite acoustic flavoured for me in the next few weeks: The Staves at The Cluny, Thurs 23 Feb Fairport Convention at the Sage, Sun 26 Feb Joan Baez at the Sage, Tues 28 Feb Rob Noakes at Porters, Tynemouth, Sunday 4 March (providing I get back from a weekend in Arbroath in time) It gets noisier after that with Sexual Objects at the Star & Shadow 16th March Then quieter again Ray Laidlaw & Friends, Cluny 2 on 23rd March Big gap until Christy Moore at City Hall on Easter Sunday, then Sandy Denny tribute night at Sage in late May Goodness, I'm a folkophile these days......

87 that wasn't it? don't recall seeing that final for some reason

of course all privileges were used up after Heysel. Justice for the 39!!

Thank fuck eh? different back in those days; less media hype & messageboard meatheads, so all teams were wished good luck. in 83 when Aberdeen won ECWC over Real Madrid & Dundee Utd got to UEFA semi finals, they had everyone behind them.....

McSwegan ended up at Notts County if memory serves. Steaua Bucharest won in 86 v Venables' Barca on pens & Belgrade v Waddle's Marseilles in 91, both on pens. didn't see latter as was at Wedding Present gig at Uni that night

A few years ago they might have faired ok (around the Laudrup, Gazza, Albert, Di Canio, Larrsson era). The current crop are woeful. Faired well aye maybe 9th/10th even the Celtic team that got to the UEFA Final was not great on paper. When you look through the names we'd have probably have had Larsson but who else then in 2003? The likes of Sutton, Thompson and Hartson were largely failed Premiership players to a degree which is why they managed to get them up there. MON worked miracles, and had their delusional support in a frenzy, they massively overachieved, but hats off to them, beating the likes of Milan and Barcelona. I'd say Rangers 91-93 was the only Scottish team capable of competing for the title here since the 60s. That Rangers team of 91/93 had a great run in the inaugural Champions League in 92/93; remember the night we walloped Barnsley 6-0 in April 93 they played Marseilles and drew 1-1 - watched it on the old VHS when i got in through a drunken haze (anyone who was in The Farmer's Rest post match could probably recall U2's "Putting Your Arms Around The World" played several times back to back with the entire bar singing "Black & White Army" in perfect time repeatedly) & desperately wanted them to win. In fact, if they'd beaten CSKA Moscow in the last group game, they'd have got to the final , where Marseilles beat Milan with a Basil Boli (later to join Rangers) goal. As far as making this relevant to NUFC, the point about what Martin Paradoxically can do in terms of inspiration to an average bunch of players may be a worry to us on March 4th & for the future. However, since he failed to crack top 4 with Villa, it's safe to say his star is waning....

It's something I thought I could make a decent effort at doing & hopefully make a difference. Would make more of one, if I could flog last 200 books like.....

Foreword by Kim Il-sung, the late President of the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea. no, there's no foreword; the dedication is to my late father though

BREAKING: Heart of Midlothian and Rangers FC to merge. New club name HMRC.

That was why I gave the 04 tournament a wide berth (actually at Sala 1 Slovan Bratislava 0 that day), as well as the 07 game (Albion Rovers 0 Partick Thistle 3 had my attendance same night), though I did go to Shearer's testimonial (instead of Christy Moore at The Sage same night). Celtic fans fan better behaved at Shearer game than Beardsley's - though wouldn't want either set of rogues here regularly.

But "kicking off" on a forum is outside of the ground surely? Where did I say "kicking off"? and where did I mention it was in or around the ground? you didn't - that post is a reply to Baggio, not you
-
The reviews I've seen have been uniformly positive, without being ecstatic

Think McCarthy would be ideal for Leeds & Brewse for Wolves, who I'd like to see go down

paperbacks; hardbacks were an extra £3 each - wouldn't have been economically viable

did 1,000 copies on a 50;50 deal with printers, trying to make money for PMAFC to replace clubhouse roof. sold about 700 copies (about half at £10 when we sold them directly & half at £6 via other agencies or at discounted price after a year). thus made just over £2k towards roof fund (work starts ends of this season). still got a couple of hundred left; prepared to give them away as a loss leader - it's a good cause & if people get something for nothing, they may donate something as a thank you or take in a game. doesn't cost us anything (well apart from £1.23 postage for each copy sent out) & may raise profile of club & make a couple of bob.

not my recollection of events i must say & having corrected you on several points of detail, i think i'll continue to trust my memory on this one if you don't mind You're wrong. Clearly this is a sore subject for you. well you said newcastle had beaten rangers (or ranger's as you put it) 4-1 under roeder, when it was actually 4-2 under souness. then you said shearer scored a penalty at 1-1 when it was actually 2-2. that's a lot of errors. i'm just interested in the truth you see

no; proper book

I don't recall that being the case; I do recall that for Beardsley's testimonial in 1999 Happened at Shearer's since he couldn't play the ref give us a penalty at 1-1 so he could come on and score. The Celtic lot weren't pleased and never shut up about it for a while after. It was 2-2 when Shearer came on

That's the one They beat us recently and promptly had a wankfest, totally discounting the fact we'd only just been promoted and Arsenal smashed them 3-0 a few week later. Who is "they;" Celtic or Rangers?

That was Celtic in Aug 07 friendly.

Aye I don't think it will, if it did they should be forced to enter from the bottom rung but even then I don't want them in English football. Agree with your point before about Boro the core of that team won the SPL, they're championship standard teams at best tbh. We thrashed them 4-1 in a pre-season friendly and iirc they won the league and we finished 14th (under Roeder maybe?), both terrible sides makes me cringe when they draw a team like Man utd in the CL groups "battle of britain" before Man utd dominate them 3-0. 4-2 in Summer 2004, under Souness (August 1st actually)
