  1. I wouldn't use them myself at SJP, but I stand at every non league game I go to when there's hardly anyone there. For every reason from atmosphere, to increased capacity, to more revenue for clubs, I'm 100% behind the idea. would we (and when I voted it's 100% in favour of terracing returning) just want 1 end returning to terracing & should this be the Leazes or the Gallowgate (I'd favour the latter for ease of access & proximity to town & public transport) or both?
  2. It was paid to one of Whyte's companies evidently This must be fraud on a massive scale......
  3. My old man passed away on 1st August 2009, which was the day after Sir Bobby & I can truthfully say I haven't gone more than a couple of hours without thinking of him; miss him like fuck & I'm desperately conscious about how his voice is slowly disappearing from my head. Old fella diagnosed 1st May, admitted to hospital 1st July, died 1st August; terrible. His 1st game at SJP was in 1946 when we beat Newport 13-0; his last was 2-2 with Ipswich in 2003 which was for his 69th birthday; he took the bairn his only grand son & it meant so much to both of them. Point of these reflections? Perspective......
  4. It's personal abuse which you're happy to deliver without being prepared to do it face to face. If I was to say to you, if you had an ailment "I hope you die of your cancer", I'd be completely out of order and because I'm a decent person I wouldn't lower myself to such depths. Why anyone would upcast something personal like you did today, as I said before it speaks volumes about you. On the other hand if I turned around and said you look a lot like Michael Carroll, it's a bit of banter. Completely different. You're obviously an inherently bad person. Also you said I talk to people like shit, where have I spoken to anyone like shit. Even J69 gets on with me on here. You come barging into the conversation calling me an arsehole when it was nothing to do with you, then you get all irate when I fire some back in your direction. I'm far from a bad person btw and If anything I'm too much of a soft touch, to give you an example in between arguing with you earlier I had to go to the vets to pick up a feral cat that I caught and took to be neutered, it's not my cat and nobody else in the area gives a fuck about them but I've gone to the effort of catching and neutering them as I'm a complete soft touch and don't want to see them suffer. On top of that I think I'm a great dad and even the missus likes me 80% of the time so I can't be that bad. I just speak what's on my mind, perhaps I should think a little more and not be as cutting but there you go. We took a feral cat to be neutered a few months back & the sod has moved in; the other cat is nigh on 15 & doesn't adapt well to change, but has taken on a feline Dutch Uncle role. Why can't we all be friends?
  5. thankfully, we didn't carry on under the McKeags, Seymours etc, or you would have been watching us playing 3rd division in a cow shed with 10,000 supporters like Sheffield Wednesday, and certain administration, instead of playing in the Nou Camp and San Siro in the Champions League. And half the posters on here, NO and skunkers, would have been spending Saturday afternoons in IKEA, like they did under the McKeags, Seymours etc. You do with the club what happened from 1992-2007, and you can walk away with as much as you like. That's capitalism and life for you, instead of that failed Marxist stuff. It was like Faust, I'll agree with you. As for skunkers, it's the true faith of messageboard land - take from that what you will.....
  6. Bloody hell, that's a blast from the past. We used to go there after an afternoon perusing second-hand bookshops. I had a fucking thrilling childhood. The Gate of India is still there on the opposite side of the road, between the library & the Stuffed Dog
  7. Disagree with you on both counts; think Her Majesty's XI will have a couple of fallow years before they challenge again in the league for certain. An assured Scottish presence in CL initial group stages has been mentioned, allowing the Tic to gain a massive financial march on their rivals in the short term. As far as the Halls go; can I just say the unreconstructed Thatcherite megalomaniac was a parasite on the body politic of NUFC. Naming a stand after himself was bad enough, but the money he took out the club was a scandal. I'll kick the cunt's coffin given the chance. Please don't get me started on his family or the scum from Jesmond Park West.
  8. i think they'll be wound up & reformed probably in Division 1, as that kind of mealy-mouthed compromise is the sort of thing the SFA are good at; see, for example, the Airdrie United fiasco, whereby they replaced Clydebank by purchasing their registration. What should happen is what happened to Gretna, but it won't, for reasons of pragmatism. Not sure what relevance the reference to Shepherd & the Halls has in this instance
  9. Chelsea last season was colder than anything I experienced on the terracing, Derby as well the season before, same time of year between christmas and new year. Coldest I've ever been was at "that" game at Stevenage. There was terracing there in front of a temporary stand and we ended up being stood next to old Stevie Charlton...we were taking turns rubbing his hands together for him, fucker was near on turning blue. Wasn't at Chelsea last year; Derby was cold, but worse was ice all over on way out - fell over on it on way to bus to town, which was nice. Stevenage - we were back row of temp stand; was more frightened of it collapsing than cold.
  10. Blackburn at home last season, when Roberts nipped between Colo & Williamson to get the winner was cold as well; took a Canadian friend of family & he was shivering all game, despite coming from Moosejaw Manitoba or some such & being attired similar to Franz Klammer, minus skis
  11. The Watford game was week after the 0-0 with Barnsley that was even worse (Smith in Sunday Sun saying it was great we kept 2 clean sheets in a row at home). The return v Watford was March 9th or something; we won 2-1 & it was James's last game before he went to Liverpool. Ando scored free kick winner, which he always maintains was best goal he scored for us. Wasn't at that one; down at sister's 21st party at Hull Uni. Don't recall Birmingham game being that cold; 1-0 on Nov 5th 2005?
  12. Away at Hillsborugh in Mar 94, bloke behind me constantly said "go away & tittle" every time something he didn't like happened in the game, like a kind of OCD euphemism. Didn't hear him that much as a bloke who'd bought a saxophone in a charity shop that morning was a few rows in front; he couldn't play it but kept making random atonal blasts. cole scored in 89th minute; canny day out.....
  13. I can't remember but I remember Mick Quinn's against Bradford that hit the scoreboard. He used to turn round spit at the ground and score normally, this time though he put it 30 yards over the bar. Mark McGhee made it all alright that day though..... My mate Dave left that game early & missed the goal. At Blackburn cup game, he took his 6 yr old bairn who started mithering to go early in 2nd half & he cleared off just before Ben Arfa's goal; there's a lesson in there for him.....
  14. I tell you one thing that's changed, which doesn't really have much to do with atmosphere (incidentally totally agree with stuff on this thread about changing demographics & influence of all seater stadia; it's been like that nigh on 20 years, so a whole generation of people have known no different in terms of mode of supporting); the thing that has changed for me is that the ground is a hell of a lot warmer than it used to be. Watford on 24th November 1990 was a game I thought I was going to die of exposure at; Quinn pelanty 1-0, Porter the Mackem missed a pelanty for them. Since then the only game I can recall being anywhere near as cold at was the UEFA Cup game after we beat Chelsea in FA Cup in 2005; Heerenveen 2-1. The fact it's a roofed bowl for the most part means it is fairly sheltered; remember the wind on the night of Man Utd in January - only slight influence it had on game was 3rd goal with Jones misjudging it. Also, my toes don't feel like someone has been smashing them with a sledgehammer now. Think because the floor is drier & so isn't as cold. Either that or 2 pairs thermal socks, plus thinsulate gloves & wooly hat have got a role to play....
  15. Clarky is a good man & well away from Huddersfield if their fans are all helmets like Dan Herd http://waltzinthecowshed.wordpress.com/ Kenny Wharton should go in for the job; the "Pride of Blakelaw" banner might still be down there
  16. Still he'll look great on there with his packet of sweets & his cheeky smile..... Sue Barker breeds Rottweilers, interestingly enough. I don't think she breeds with them though
  17. I remember when Bull was getting in the England squad and they came up to our place. It was 0-0 at half time and my old man was telling everyone that Bull looked shit and there was no way he should go to Italia 90. He came out and scored 4 second half. Cunt indeed. Aye, and Brock scored a free kick, he took about 500 in his toon career and scored two, one when we're 0-3 down at home to Wolves with 5 mins left, and the other in the AIC. New Year's Day 1990; when it was given, bloke behind me in Milburn Gallowgate side shouted "let Fereday take it; he's not kicked the ball yet." Ando missed a penalty at 0-0? Or was that Leicester & McGhee missed that day?
  18. A shout out to Barca Art Cafe on Front Street in Tynemouth, in what was the venerable & indeed terrible Rawalpindi. We went there Sunday evening & were bowled over by the quality of it. Locally caught mussels in white wine & pesto shared starter, with homemade foccacia, followed by pork sunday lunch for her (nice touch was homemade potato rosti) & monkfish & chorizo cassoulet for me that i could have been eating in Bilbao or Donostie such was the quality of it. No desserts, but coffees & a bottle of Tempranillo, as well as pre-prandial Wylam tankard for me & some la-di-dah Italian (not Peroni) for her all came to less than £50. superb quality, attentive service & rather enjoyable low level musical background that included Primal Scream, Neil Young & The Yardbirds, this is a place we must revisit.
  19. With Wenger to become a captain on Question Of Sport ? Be no use on the video round, claiming he saw nowt all the time....

  21. wolves supporter we were chatting to few months ago when we were down there, says the opinion is that he's taken them as far as he can. Unfortunately, the days of Stan Cullis are long gone, I don't know how big a club Wolves think they are. Don't dislike them though, good fans, good town/city,good ground in the city centre, good away trip all round. Aye, wonderful climate, glorious architecture, amazing beaches etc etc See Wolverhampton & die, as the saying goes
  22. 9:09 how a crowd should celebrate a goal. Arsenal have never celebrated like that in their history. Last free kick is by Hibs legend Franck Sauzee
  23. yes Deadman, the administration is just a convenient way to sack lots of people and walk away from their debts. according to some, it means they disappear forever never to be seen again and taken over by Morrisons. They will be back winning their tin pot league again in a couple of years time and nobody will give a fuck about this news On what proof do you base your suppositions?
