  1. i was born among the working class; my father was an electrician for the council & my mother a shop worker; we lived in a council estate (2 heatherwell green in felling if you are interested). i knew by my teens i was better than those i lived around; hence by the time i was 13, i was reading "the daily telegraph," which i filched from ralphie dixon's paper shop in felling (i had a morning & afternoon round there), while my dad read "the daily mirror." i watched bbc2, regardless of programme as they watched itv (other than when i watched football) & i listened to radio 3 while they listened to radio newcastle. i drank coffee while they drank tea. i was a vegetarian as they ate meat. while they came home tired & dirty from work, i read french & russian 19th century novels. while they paid rent, i bought property. yes, i left the working class behind
  2. Hmmm - not sure about that. I know who most of them support & the vast majority aren't mackems McNally is celtic, but with mackem sympathies
  3. I would protect my son with my life; I think any decent, middle class parent would do the same. There are people out there you just wouldn't want your children to meet.
  4. Looking forward to taking my cousin & his daughter (flew over from Bilbao last week & going back on Sunday just before Villa game) to the game now, along with my son. Brilliant that kids can see this game for £5
  5. i remember living in LS6 a quarter of a century ago & seeing Sikh kids playing Muslim kids at cricket (India v Pakistan) at the end of terraced streets, illuminated only by streetlights, around November 1987 time.
  6. Be interesting to see just how our new supporter demographic will be represented tonight
  7. correct; good geographical point
  8. Doubtful it stood; As two spent swimmers, that do cling together And choke their art.
  9. To me it's obvious that Ashley, Llambias & Pardew are like Inspector George Gently; intelligent, perceptive, undemonstrative outsiders from the South East, up here to sort things out. Meanwhile an element of Newcastle's support, as well as several journalists are like Sergeant John Bacchus; emotional, overwrought, mercurial & quixotic locals, unable to see the wood for the trees.
  10. Cousin & his elder daughter over from Vitoria-Gasteiz in Basque Country; doing game with them & my young'un for £40 - great value. Looks like Bodega beforehand, possibly Newcastle Arms after. 2-0 Gosling & Cisse
  11. If I go, I'll be giving Shay given a round of applause (tired...)
  12. 1. You can pay on the door, it'll never sell out 2. Half Man Half Biscuit are playing the Academy on 15th November
