I think it's reasonable to evaluate your position vs potential positions and the odds of that but I agree with you that in this instance I would take your hand off for the opportunity to roll the dice. Newcastle could easily do a Sunderland with Ashley at the helm after Rafa goes. He's certainly stupid/stubborn enough to fuck up that badly. So complete annihilation of the club is the only way it gets any worse and I think the chances of that are pretty low.

I never really took to him as Premiership player but he clearly cares, hates himself for missing a shot (hence the mardiness) and worked his bollocks off to get where he is. He also never seems to take it out on other players which is nice to see. I'd have been happy to have him as an option off the bench but it's hard for Rafa to worry about backups when the fucking first eleven is short of the necessary quality.
