There's also an interesting point in whether they are wrong to do so. They're on a budget, they have to take short-cuts, make assumptions. If some of those are racial. That's an easy question, no they wouldn't. I wouldn't get too caught up in media hyseria, or what we should probably call social hysteria, it's a good topic but not the one at hand. It's not neccessarily ignorant not to want a daughter to go out with a black guy. I have friends who've had black partners and they've never had an easy time from either 'side'. Positive discrimination is a tough one. You can see the argument for giving someone a leg up who's had a tougher time of it to even things out a bit in the long run. I'm thinking more about the US than the UK, where I'm not sure the problem is nearly as severe. But ultimately are you not just prolonging negative discrimination by 'unfairly' helping them? I don't think I'd do it in the UK.

I wouldn't be surprised if Souness was the kind of character who'd be upset by the rumours that do the rounds about Ambrose. That might be grossly unfair but it's the kind of image Souness chooses to portray. I agree, quality player who we could have done with this season. I agree with a lot of your sentiments there. There's 2 questions that are worth asking, I think. When's the last time we played good football? And the stickler, is anyone really playing good football anymore? I remember sitting watching Chelsea and Liverpool fight it out for the final Champion's League spot the year we finished 3rd. That was the natural order before Abramovich walked in. If he walked away now Chelsea would crash, probably to complete extinction, although football clubs are rather more resilient than any other business I can think of. Your success hinges on one man, Newcastle are where they are because of the fans, we fill the second largest stadium in the Premiership whilst arguably flirting with relegation, I believe Chelsea are struggling to fill their inferior stadium. TV money, consortiums, merchandising, synergising with bloody casinos, ultimately it's all about the fans.
