The question should probably be does anybody do anything but wank anymore, what with the internet? Nice to see how quickly we can turn the books thread to masterbation. I'm interested in reading some of Banks' sci-fi stuff, I read alot of sci-fi fantasy when I was a kid so I don't bother with it much anymore but I recently read the first of the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy and whilst I thought the world Pullman* had built up was second to none the writing itself was really poor. I'm really impressed with Banks' other stuff (although I do worry about his mental state sometimes) so I thought 'Iain M Banks' might be worth a lash, any suggestions? *I have to give JK Rowling a lot more credit after reading him, although I still grimace when somebody refers to her work as literature.

That bit's just you. About giving a manager time: When you give managers time, some will work out and some won't, otherwise it would be called 'waiting for success'. Are people now saying that because this particular manager didn't work out it was wrong to give him time? He shouldn't have been hired in the first place, but that's a different matter. Anyone ever notice that when clubs hire and fire quickly, say 2 or 3 in a season that the replacements and performances get successively worse? We were a laughing stock for taking him on, we'd have been a bigger laughing stock for dropping him 3 months later.
