I'm saying I'd take someone's hand off for 5m, and get rid, but we've a week until the window closes and Luque, Oba, Shola to pick from. Using first touch as an example, all I'm really saying, is that Luque was suffering from confidence and effort problems, now it's just confidence, in the right position, alongside Oba, he might make a better partner than Shola, who suffers from a talent problem. I like Shola, I really want him to make it, but this pre-season I saw too many things I couldn't dismiss, I agree he's ahead of Luque in the pecking order at the moment, but only just.

Shola's still putting the ball 10 yards ahead of him with his first touch on a regular basis. We're in a desperate position for strikers, Luque has maybe a 20% chance of success, might be a bit harsh on Shola, but his chances are not much better. I'm interested to know how much better people are rating his chances?

Keeping in mind I can't see much of his off the ball work from my armchair perch, I watched him try to take up decent positions when the ball came forward. He also put in a couple of tackles and again tried to win headers. He had a shocking game, but he's trying to work within the confines of a game he can't play. There were many times he made a run that he didn't get the pass. I want to see him alongside Oba. Luque can never play as a traditional English center forward but I still think he might do all right supporting someone like him. Shola is our only other option, and the bloke's got as little chance of making it as Luque, in spite of his best efforts.

But from a purely pragmatic point of view, the only reason to kill them instead of throw away the key is money, and not real money either, but money in the most ethereal sense. I'm not quite that cold. I've never bought the deterrent argument, either, my argument has always been a simple removal from society, for the benefit of society. Though with these spates of random attacks that seem so prevalent in western society they might think twice if they saw their mate gunned down by the police for waving a knife about, now there's a world I want to live in!
