I think the opposite is probably the case. In the UK at least. Did I really get you there? Seriously, I've changed my mind.

Can you explain to me how getting 4.6 pounds wouldn't give you the answer you need? Are we talking caviar here? I could go further but I'm rarely faced with a situation where I need to be more accurate than that. Do you know I only heard that such a thing as the metric pound existed a few weeks ago, just to further complicate the issue.

I would think the vast majority of people would be able to estimate the weight of a banana to the nearest gram.

So basically it's ambiguous if you have to quickly tot something up in your head? You are making a strong case against me here, I must admit, though maybe somewhat unintentionally.

I was responding to your point about "accurate scales" as when I reread what I was responding to I realised I hadn't really said anything relevant! Gemmill's got it spot on tbh. You believe the state should enforce your rights to be protected and go metric because you're fucked if you have to do hard sums.

That's going to be a pretty limited range in your case. What if you needed 6 bananas a 14p each? What the fuck is an unambiguous price, anyway?

I stick with metres tbh as i can't count above 5, and apparently feet are scary. EDIT: I blame a dodgy shift key for making me look like an idiot, and I blame poker for that, the truth may be rather more upsetting.

It's really not. I'm saying what I think, as much as I don't want to, in this instance. Can you clarify to me that you don't think it should be mandatory for shop keepers to use accurate scales and quote the cost of bananas in a standard unit? If you agree they should have to do this, do you think those should be metric or imperial units, or both? Or can they do what they like without state interference, and it's a case of buyer beware? No, I don't think it should be mandatory, I think any business man with good business sense would accept standards set by some sort of union/group with a seal of approval which a customer would look for. I would also differentiate between the small local grocer - a human being, and a large corporation - a legal entity in its own right which has far too much power over a community which is not vigilant enough as it feels it's being looked after. I'm sorry if that idea is so absurd as to be laughable to some, maybe I need to work on breaking things down better, but I will continue to believe that those people need to widen their viewpoint and level of understanding. Edit: Just to clarify if someone is using a rigged scales, yes, that's a crime.

Just assuming you end up laughing at people's points of view every time we debate something, instead of you talking it out as you apparently love to do.

It's obvious to me too, I'm just waiting for spongebob to clarify so I'm not accused of making an assumption. I'm in no way spoiling for a fight, I was talking about something that interested me.

http://www.google.com/search?hs=SnR&hl...amp;btnG=Search First of all, are you suggesting people should be shopping with a wireless PDA? Secondly, it hasn't given me the answer I want, which is in pounds and ounces, not decimal pounds! I rest my case. My point was that there was very little point in giving you the answer, because I could have cheated, I came up with 4.6 in my head, knowing that was a little out, didn't see a situation where i need to separate out the ounces. Seriously, this kind of maths is a question of doing it regularly, NOT intelligence.

You forgot to divide by 7, but yes, seems pretty basic to me.

Would it not be possible for people to say - you're taking the piss - go back to their council and organise a boycott until he stops taking the piss? Hence they would be able to fend for themselves when issues like this innevitably arose when there was no-one there to protect them? Or would people not have the choice to say, well his prices take the piss, but I still shop there for the banter. Allowing them to make their own decision based on the evidence.

Renton - please tell me your joking about converting that to pounds and dividing by 7?

I'm really not, sorry if you can't keep up, like. Yes, I'm converting imperial-metric on a regular basis, sorry you find it so hard going, I'll think of you this Christmas. "If a bloke wants to run his business into the ground, selling only the lefty-hand side of cabbages, sold by the moon-unit, how can that really be anyone's business but his own?" That was my point btw, I've already said I haven't a clue who this bloke is and that what's being said about his political agenda sounds very plausuble.
  21. Wouldnt that mean she was thirsty though? I think she meant spitting blood. A bit presumptious on my part of course as I'm investing her with my intellgence there, which would clearly be absurd. In fact on mature refelection I'm inclined to believe she actually meant spitting bricks. Jesus wept. There's some feckin' trees on this website.

You got in the way and the comedy moment was lost. I thought of something funny to reply to it, and then you deleted it, but it was the usual one-dimensional ha-ha-homosexual fare, so no loss really. Or something. That's you, that is.

I didn't say I would be able to figure it out, I said that I thought pretty much everyone had the ability to. If you think that the majority of people are genuinely too thick for basic maths and awareness skills, I'd be interested to hear why. I think they have ended up that way, not that they were meant to end up that way. I think it's a bad thing because people are increasingly babied and the majority never take any responsibility for themselves, leaving them increasingly vulnerable when they can't be protected. We're all getting fucked by major corporations because they have the strenth to dodge these laws and the people don't know how to cope. And what happens when the babied citizens get fucked by their government, who protects them then?
