  1. Nope, that still doesn't make any sense to me. It sounds like you're saying there wasn't a central character from whose viewpoint the film was based on. There was, it was Batman. Whether Bale acted him well or not, or the director focussed enough on him, is another matter. You just wanted to shoehorn a big word into the conversation, admit it. Renton has to look up word in dictionary and goes on the offensive.
  2. That's a bit daft, how would they do that? Arrange for a fight at 2 o'clock at Hyde Park? Three men armed with fertilizer bombs against 10,000 British soldiers with tanks and planes? I hate terrorism as much as the next man but I can see the logic of assymetrical warfare and it tends to work in the end - Northern Ireland is a point in hand. You've levelled the same accusations of cowardice against the insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan in the past as well, but by that definition the French resistance in WW II would be cowards too. I don't even really want to argue with this, because I kind of agree with you, but is that a fair comparison? Did the Resistance go after civilians/women & children? Even comparing them to the IRA is tough. They were never out to maximise civilian casualties and often hit government/military. We're now dealing with radicalised psychopaths who sit down next to children on a train and with full awareness, blow them to pieces. Sorry for the tabloid bit there, but I think it's important the think about what these mad fuckers are doing, whatever their motives.
  3. Completely the wrong way to look at something like this. They shoot 99/999/9,999 terrorists and unfortunately 1 of you/me/Leazes dies too. The system is monitored and we strive to improve it (lengthen the odds). Measures are in place to inquire into wrongful death. Acceptable?
  4. I was pretty sure Ashley would fail to invest in the transfer window and our promotion push would just fall away in the second half of the season. Probably something particularly painful like scraping 6th and going out on penalties.
  5. One caveat I would have about my above statement re this. I assume we don't always act rationally in this spot and maybe fight or flight mechanism kicks in? I have no clue but there must be some studies out there. Obviously if people were commonly compelled to run when cops pointed a gun at them, that would be a huge problem.
  6. Have to agree with Leazes here. We have to make the best decision that we can overall to protect people, sometimes we'll fuck it up and someone innocent dies. That probably ends up being the right mathematical outcome though. We have to accept that we are pretty fucking stupid, especially as we try to organise bigger and bigger populations, but we do the best we can. I just don't feel that liberals accept that very well.
  7. Fish's original statement seemed pretty straight forward like. I can't be arsed to figure out if it's also correct, but it certainly doesn't strike me as ridiculous. Then again it's hard for a lot of people not to like a well played, funny anti-establishment type and Bale always comes across as a bit of a cunt to me (still good actor) so maybe it was a losing battle from the off.
  8. Power down now; world is ending.
  9. Now Alex, I know the rest of your 45,000 posts aren't as blind as that
  10. Blizzard conditions here in South France, wtf? If that's your fault too, you owe me a tree! gf just managed to get back out of Ireland again yesterday. good timing.
  11. Causing trouble already. At least I managed to refrain from posting in the General Election thread (for now).
  12. thought it was a bit random like.
  13. ... Sterling reasoning. I think you made some good points and am far from certain that "my" side is the right one.
  14. Pretty key area for an attacking player. I'm not recalling too many terrified defenses either. Agree with that, but is going to get caught wanting from a lack of pace and lose it soon enough. Shame you can't listen to an opinion that differs from yours without labeling it ludicrous, but that's your business.
  15. Is that aimed at me?
  16. I'm praying the 2 Argies have a great World Cup. Neither of them going to cut it in the Premiership next season. so our best CB this season and (IMO) the best of only 2 first team wingers we have arent good enough and you want them to leave? fucking hell what are you expecting this summer? I didn't say I was optimistic, in fact if they're not going to do the job next season, how on earth are we supposed to replace them AND sort what else needs to be sorted? I would much rather just enjoy the end of season and the summer circus than worry about any of that though. Collocini just doesn't have the quickness of though required for the Premiership imo, and more cultured defenders are going to stop Jonas in his tracks, just like they did last time. I've enjoyed watching us this season more than most on here from what I read, but we did just win a shit league. What do you think has changed about these 2 players since last time around?
  17. The difference is, Matt's statement makes total sense, yours is a pretty funny analogy. Ashley, a legal entity, has lent Newcastle, another legal entity, money. Newcastle has a legal obligation to Ashley. You've made an investment in something which should increase it's value, but if you've made a bad decision, tough shit. Are you planning on taking yourself to court over the cost of the curtains?
  18. I'm praying the 2 Argies have a great World Cup. Neither of them going to cut it in the Premiership next season.
  19. It has been argued many times on here that this "must be repaid" line is rubbish. If and when he sells, the price a buyer pays will be the price, end of. It's like you lending yourself 30,000 for fancy wallpaper for your home. Doesn't mean that if you sell a buyer is going to pay you that 30,000 on top of the real price, no matter how much you want it. At the end of the day you will only get the market value. Same with Newcastle. I've actually gone through the forgot password rigmarole to laugh at this. Do you think Ashley is running Newcastle as a sole trader?
  20. J serenading his new phone. It's really about him too in a lot of ways. GO J!
  21. 34. 51 in Robert years. Where was Domi from btw?
  22. Jedward. How long before someone does use that name btw?
  23. This is very cool of them, I will be signing up and passing it along. Cheers. Ah shite, UK only. Doesn't look like it extends to Ireland either. Still a great cause and will join facebook group.
