American technology - Obamas car gets stuck in Dublin
toon_don replied to Rob W's topic in General Chat
There speaks a man who has never been to Detroit. -
That's not really true. In terms of how much Scotland raises in taxes compared to the block grant you get, it's more like having £200 taken and getting about £180 back.
-
Just noticed only Man Utd and Chelsea have scored more goals at home than us this season. Lets wrap it up with a bit of entertainment and style: 3-2 Newcastle
-
In the home leg against Marseilles he produced the most immense individual defensive performance I've ever seen.

I've thought Commons has looked like a really good player for years now, I'm surprised he's never had a move to the Premiership. Hooper has looked good this season as well. If Enrique goes, I think their left back Izaguirre would be a good replacement for the kind of money we're likely to spend.
-
I was at the match at White Hart Lane, and Modric and Jenas ran the game in the second half to be fair.
-
That's a valid question. I'd have him play off Carroll as we've not got any other viable options up front. Has the skill and pace to beat a man, and should find plenty of space to run into off Carroll. Out wide we may not see enough ball go through him to fully utilise his ability. I'd play him off CarrolL, but essentially give him license to do what he wants, and then have Gutierrez, Tiote, Nolan and Barton across the midfield.

The changes will give us the highest fees for public universities in the industrialised world it costs $25000/year in the states to go to a reputable institution. True, but that's for the private universities which can charge whatever they want. Average tuition costs at a public university in the states (I admit often not as good) are around $7,000 per year. We only have one private university in this country, the University of Buckingham.

Who feels passionately enough about this to jack it next season?

I'm not a Geordie, and have never lived locally, so I can only manage 4 or 5 homes games a season, and about the same number of away games. But I'm not setting foot in SJP again until he's gone. I realise that this is minuscule in the grand scheme of things, but I just can't bear to put another penny into the club while Ashley is running it. The worst thing for me about this week is not even what he did to Hughton, but the realisation that nothing has changed. Now we know that the Keegan/JFK/Shearer season wasn't a freak or an aberration, but the kind of thing that can and will happen again and again while he's in charge. -
Around £3,750 a year I think holy crap!!! i thought my fees were high when i was in school. what sort of student assistance is there? can you get student loans? and if so what sort of interest does the government give? Sorry, I edited it after you quoted it, it's actually £3,290 a year. Unless you're really wealthy, you get a tuition fee loan which goes straight from the government from the university. You also have maintenance loans which go up to ~£4900 per year, and means tested grants to help you with day to day living costs. The interest on these is the rate of inflation, so you pay back what you borrowed effectively. The changes would not only put the top figure up to £9,000 a year, but you would have to pay a real rate of interest on top of RPI on these loans. You'd also pay a penalty if you were in a position to pay the debt off early in a lump sum.

A balanced viewpoint if ever there was one

I wouldn't blame anyone for not going. I wouldn't but I don't understand people who have tickets who don't go. A serious effort from the fans to starve the club of extra income will drive home the message he's not wanted, but it has to be most of us. Hand on heart I'm not going back next year unless we're sold. I think the problem is in this country people just won't do it in enough numbers to make a difference. I think the 'we have to support the team' argument is just as valid as the boycott one, but I believe now the only way to stop this crap happening again and again is to hit him in the pocket until he gets the message. Since I can only get to 4 or 5 home games a season, I realise my protest will make sod all difference, but I certainly will only be going to away games until he's gone.- 10610 replies

Some more views on this on ESPN including from our very own Shaka Hislop. Stewart Robson in particular has some strong words about it. Watch from about 11 minutes onwards: ESPN- 10610 replies

After a decent few days from the media, it's cliche bingo time David Craig on Sky Sports News: "these fans would rather see a 4-3 loss than a scrappy 1-0 win" NO WE WOULDN'T!!!- 10610 replies

Pardew is just like JFK. Did a good job at Reading once upon a time, and has inexplicably been getting new gigs off the back of it ever since.- 10610 replies

Does anyone else think we could end up with a Hearts type scenario some senior players speak out against the ownership? Especially considering how much they all seemed to like Hughton?
-
I didn't say he was any good
-
I think they've ruined him a bit to be honest. I remember watching him in a youth World Cup for Nigeria, and he was a proper dynamic attacking midfielder, with awesome dribbling ability as well. Chelsea seem to have neutered him.

As I said earlier in this thread, the only two strikers I can think of that we've paid a transfer fee for under Ashley are Xisco and Best. Could you argue that Smith was signed as a striker?
