Remain in light. Adrian Belew who played with Zappa Makes it. Cross eyed and painless wanks all over the live version, which is lush in it's own right but the recorded version gets the nod.

You're onto something there imo, about him not being afraid to speak his mind. The king is dead long live the king. Maybe a little too late?

Thought Brown looked like the old timer, not used too a situation forced upon him by modern American style media. Clegg looked naive and Cameron. Well he's a twat isn't he.

Height of arrogance. Ignoring the French's nuclear deterrent, Western Europe (not just us) is of huge strategical and political importance to the US, especially compared to places like Korea and Vietnam, which they wasted 1000s of lives on. Face it, had we disarmed, we would not have been speaking Russian now, guaranteed. And you know that as a fact - how ???? I said earlier - "although giving up the foothold would have been strategically disasterous" It is not inconceivable that the USA would have withdrawn, unlikely, absolutely, but not inconceivable. There were, periodically, stories at the time that the yanks were going to withdraw ground forces from Europe, caused a flap every time it reared it's head, and we had our deterrent, can't see why those reports would have been any less if we'd dissarmed. Given their actions in Korea and Vietnam - neither of which were of anything like the strategic importance of Western Europe - and their general post-war (or more specifically post-Iron Curtain) policy of opposing Communism spreading to any countries that weren't already Communist, I think the notion the US would have abandoned all of Europe to the Soviets over Britain getting rid of the bomb is extremely far-fetched. That's irrespective of whether or not it would have been the right thing to do. Agree. If Foot had managed to get the UK to get rid of its nuclear weapons. We would have ceased to have been a threat. The flip side of the coin is the situation we find ourselves in today . the cold war has gone but, we still find ourselves at war.

Didn't the last Ice Age (and others before) drastically change the landscape though? That would render a lot of this supposed knowledge useless anyway. Surely a more likely explanation is people (who have seemingly explored throughout their history) rediscovered lands that were now hospitable again as a matter of course rather than because they knew where to go. Yeah my take is that the re-population of land freed from the ice was a natural one especially given it was still largely a hunter-gatherer lifestyle anyway. You also have to consider that there were other Hominids descended from Homo Erectus who had populated the same areas a couple of hundred thousand years before that by the same natural migration. Let's not get into this evolution bollocks. We did nothing but eat our own shit in caves for about 400,000 years. wasn't until we started eating what 'grew' on the cow-shit that things got interesting.... Aye. magots and all

Thats the most interesting point in oppenheimer's book, there is huge evidence too suggest a very select group of mothers (in terms of there DNA) Met in these ice age refuges IE modern day Ukraine and the Iberian peninsula. But. They spread back across Europe in quite individual movements that can still be tracked in our own modern DNA. Was it just luck? or was the art of story telling already a well established means of teaching the young just throwing it out there

Aye the fucking wankers

So basically, there was a huge civilisation that existed prior to the last ice age and some snippets of that knowledge have been kept over the thousands of years since its beginning and end(the ice age that is) As Steven Oppenheimer said in his last book (the origins of the british) we are all basically ice age refugees that some how knew where to migrate back too after the ice receded .That would sugest that there was already a civilisation in place so that the storys and heritage of those tribes lived on for the next 2000 years. which would also indicate a much older culture
