To be honest, I aint defending SBR too much, towards the end some of his signings really didn't work out.

Souness is a cr*p manager, anyone who has been to our games for the last 4 months can work that one out! Fact is managers such as Curbishley and Alardyce are managing to get their 'poorer' teams to produce better results in the league consistently more than Souness ever has!

We will concede, our defence is still as sh*te as it was, over the summer we have reduced our number of defenders and not improved it with any quality. How many will we score, hmmm? 2-1 to the toon! Owen double!

Yep, nice first team, but how many games will Emre, Babayaro and Dyer actually play this season, take them out and it looks a much more ordinary team. Plus Souness couldn't manage a piss up in a brewery!

Good money but reduces the squad again and I won't hold my breath on it being re-invested in areas that need improvement.

I have no confidence in Souness as a manager, we have a better squad than the likes of Charlton but somehow Curbishely manages to get further up the table than us, Souness is dreadful no matter how many good players he buys! Secondly as was seen against Man U and Bolton: 1. We pick up a couple of injuries, we struggle and have a real lack of depth in the squad with a distinct lack of pace and quality. 2. Our defence is not good enough, yes, in my opinion even the first 4 aint good enough (Bolton goals as a classic example) let alone the cover which is distinctly thin. One injury to Babyaro and we are screwed! Anyone who thinks the defence is good enough is living in cloud cuckoo land. It is fine to be happy that we have signed Owen, fantastic, that should sort out to a degree our striking options, it doesn't sort out the other issues still present that existed pre-owen.

I still aint as excited as I should be because I realise we are still woefully short in terms of our overall squad and our defence is still fairly sh*te and has had no investment or improvement over the summer.

With Dyer and Emre both injury prone, we would be very foolish to sell JJ. The fact is we are very thin in terms of squad numbers as it is after selling so many this summer. The cash is tempting but unless we have further acquisitions in mind, I think we would be very foolish to sell JJ.

If he does, it should be without Shearer when everyone is fit. 22586[/snapback] Agreed, the front 3 should be Dyer, Owen and Luque with Shearer coming off the bench! Of course, this presumes that Dyer will actually play a full 90 minutes at some point for us!

Its great and it will make a huge difference, however, £17m is a lot of cash and doesn't help our woeful defence any!

Why would Owen want to come to a team that looks very much like relegation fodder! Even with him we are woefully short of players, I am so embarrassed at how small our squad is now, thanks Graeme! Forget Owen, that £17m should have bee used to buy 2/3 players! Instead this pipe dream will end up with us getting none!
