  4. Toon gossip Almost evert paper this morning reports that Geremi is in talks with United over his proposed move on a free transfer from Chelsea. The Daily Mail says that the Cameroon utility player will make his mind up during the next 48 hours over a move to Tyneside, while The Journal claims that the 28-year-old has already decided to join the Magpies. One new name to emerge is that of FC Copenhagen centre-back Brede Hangeland. The 26-year-old Norway international is said to be available for a fee in the region of £2m, according to The Sun and The Times. Again, the majority of titles carry the story of the Geordies being in talks with Barcelona over a move for their Brazilian World Cup winner Edmilson. The Daily Mail say that Newcastle face competition from Milan for the 30-year-old's signature, while The Journal write that a potential stumbling block could be the player's wage demands which they claim are in excess of £100k per week. And the Barcelona connection continues with striker Eidur Gudjonhsen linked with a switch to St.James' Park. The Daily Mail, The Journal and The Times all say that the Geordies are in talks with the Catalan giants over the Icelandic international, with the Mail quoting a price tag of £4.5m. Meanwhile, The Telegraph and The Times report that Big Sam is also tracking Chelsea pair Wayne Bridge and Lassana Diarra. The Times also say that Marseille defender Habib Beye and Liverpool's Sami Hyypia remain a target for Allardyce. And finally, The Daily Mirror report that Blackburn Rovers are set to beat United to the signature of Holland Under-21 forward Maceo Rigters.
  5. Official History tbh I've got all of them since 01/02, wouldn't have bought it this year, and, tbh, the club would have been ridiculed for bringing one out
  6. MICHAEL Owen will return to pre-season training with Newcastle United this morning determined to prove his commitment to Sam Allardyce’s side. But there are fresh doubts about the future of Kieron Dyer as he has been lined up by Chelsea as a possible replacement for Barcelona transfer target Frank Lampard. Owen has been consistently credited with a desire to leave United this year following the emergence of a £9m release clause in his contract if the Magpies receive a bid from a team playing in Europe. But The Journal understands the England international has told team-mates he is no longer contemplating the possibility of a move as he concentrates on ensuring he is in the best possible condition for the start of, what he hopes, will be an injury-free campaign on Tyneside. That will come as a big relief to Allardyce, who knows Owen is one of the most effective goalscorers in world football, despite his persistent injury problems. Newcastle’s manager is still interested in Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen, but with Owen content to stay, the Icelandic international will only be signed if the tentative interest shown in Obafemi Martins from Arsenal and Juventus leads to a firm bid. Whether Owen, having hopefully proven his form and fitness over the course of the first half of the season, is the subject of greater interest from the Premiership’s Champions League participants when the transfer window opens again in January, remains to be seen, but the 27-year-old has privately dismissed the possibility of a move. Those sentiments, of course, will need to be backed up in public but, crucially, Allardyce is satisfied with the striker’s attitude as he looks to make the former Liverpool and Real Madrid star the focal point of his attack next season. Dyer has also told Allardyce – who insisted over the weekend he was not for sale – that he is excited about the new manager’s plans and fresh ideas at St James’s Park, but that has not prevented rumours circulating that he is a target for Jose Mourinho at Chelsea. Just as Newcastle supporters’ pre-season has been soured by the constant speculation linking Owen with a move away after two-injury ravaged seasons at the club, so too has Chelsea’s by the breakdown of contract talks between the club and Lampard. The Blues are still hoping to persuade their star midfielder to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge but, following another stall in negotiations last week against a backdrop of claims that the 29-year-old is Barcelona’s top target following the acquisition of Thierry Henry from Arsenal, Chelsea have made contingency plans. And Dyer, who has also been tracked by Chelsea’s London neighbours Tottenham this summer, has been identified as a possible replacement. Unlike Spurs, Chelsea would have no problem matching Dyer’s wages at St James’s Park, although the 28-year-old has also told team-mates that he is not thinking above leaving Newcastle. The former Ipswich star, like Owen, has been impressed by Allardyce’s vision for the future on Tyneside and Newcastle’s new manager will fight to keep him if Chelsea do lose Lampard. Allardyce said: “Anyone saying that I want Kieron to leave is talking utter rubbish. He is one of the successes of last year in that he appears to have overcome his major injury problems. “I have spoken to Kieron. He is such a versatile player that he can get used in a number of positions and that can be difficult for him sometimes. But I will take the brunt of it if he has to be moved around. We want to grow together.” Dyer and Owen, who opted to take in Chester races rather than Newcastle’s Northumberland Plate meeting on Saturday, will both return to pre-season training this morning despite having played in England’s summer internationals against Brazil and Estonia. Allardyce insisted on every player travelling to the club’s pre-season training camp in Austria tomorrow.
  7. Not if they're a polar. LOST! tbh
  8. SSN - Signing should be completed tomorrow.
  9. Got to be a sympathy chuckle somewhere...
  10. Sky Sports News understands Newcastle have opened talks with Geremi. Sam Allardyce confirmed his interest in the Chelsea utility man earlier this week and said he was looking to push through a deal as quickly as possible. Chelsea are now understood to have given The Magpies permission to speak to Geremi and the Cameroonian has travelled to St James' Park for talks. Geremi has been at Chelsea since 2003 and has made some useful contributions even if he has not established himself as a regular starter. He can operate in midfield or at right-back and his versatility is sure to appeal to Allardyce. If Geremi joins he will become Allardyce's fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Mark Viduka, Joey Barton and David Rozehnal. Barcelona's Edmilson has also been linked with a move to Newcastle.

  16. NEWCASTLE United are raising a toast after agreeing a multi-million pound drinks deal with beer giant Carling. The lucrative four-year agreement, which starts on July 1, is one of the largest of its type in UK sport, linking the Magpies, one of Europe's biggest football clubs, with the number one UK lager Carling. Darren Venn, Newcastle United's Director of Commercial Affairs, said: "We're delighted to have agreed a deal that brings Carling to St. James' Park. "This year, Shearer's Bar has been officially voted the best bar in Newcastle, and now fans will be able to drink Britain's favourite lager there. "Our fans are famously known for having a thirst for football, and those who like to enjoy a pint at St. James' Park are sure to enjoy what's on offer." Carling - which sells 50 pints every second - will be available at Shearer's Bar and inside St. James' Park along with Coors Light, Grolsch and Worthingtons. And the news is great for those members of the Toon Army who like a pint before, during or matchdays at St. James' Park - with new fast-flow technology ensuring drinks will now be poured even faster in Shearer's Bar and around the stadium. While the name of Newcastle United is known all around the sporting world, Carling already has a long-standing heritage in British football. They previously sponsored the Premiership and have also backed the Carling Cup for four years, as well as Glasgow's Old Firm giants Celtic and Rangers. Now the partnership with Newcastle United strengthens their links with Tyneside, having already established top music venue the Newcastle Carling Academy in the heart of the city. Carling Brand Director Martin Coyle said: "The partnership with Newcastle United is an excellent addition to Carling's many links with football; from its sponsorship of the Premiership from 1993 to 2001 and the Carling Cup from 2003 onwards. "It will help build on the strong links between the city of Newcastle and its people and Carling. "Carling has a proud history in British football and bringing fans closer to the game so we're naturally looking forward to working with Newcastle United to become an important part of the local community." Jane Shepstone, NUFC'S Director of Catering, added: "We're delighted to welcome Carling to Newcastle United today as our new official brewery partner for the next four seasons. "We are proud of the award winning facilities for fans that we have at Newcastle United and it's fitting that Carling, Britain's number one lager, will now be supplied to St James' Park, which is one of the top Stadiums for beer sales in the Premiership. "Coors products will also be available at Shearer's Bar, which itself celebrated a number one position earlier this year when it picked up an award for the best bar in Newcastle. "Carling are also ensuring that United fans receive the best possible service by upgrading the current installation equipment at St. James' Park to dispense their brands using the latest fast pour technology which can dispense a pint in less than 9 seconds. "Newcastle United has long been a major part of people's lives in the north east and beyond. Carling too have a long affinity with UK football and, with the launch of the city's popular Music Academy and the number of top acts it has attracted, have already shown their commitment to the region." The new partnership signals the end of Newcastle United's previous association with Scottish & Newcastle. The club thanks the company for all its past support and extends its best wishes for the future.
