Having sat with my dad at home while he died of bowel cancer, and we couldn’t get help from a macmillan nurse or a district nurse because they were too busy, giving him the legally allowed amount of morphine to help him sleep, having the medicine in the house that would have ended him but couldn’t legally give him it. This is a fucking triumph, fuck everyone who voted against it. Sit with someone who is in immense pain with no way out and all they have to come is a painful and undignified death then come and talk to me. Cunts.6 points

Should the supporters back the manager who lifted us from relegation to top four in one season, and who hasn’t been backed properly for three consecutive windows? Yes, we should. The problem isn’t the manager. He has improved average players, lifted expectations and galvanised the squad. The problem is the recruitment, which has been stifled by the bullshit psr rules.3 points

Horrible what is happening to retail in this country, especially independent shops like this. I would bulldoze oot shopping centres, especially the Metro centre. There just isn't the retail capacity to support both Newcastle city centre and that American mall shite. Build houses there, consolidate Newcastle. Fix Eldon square and. Northumberland street which is a disgrace. Fix the Metro and get more working interchanges and park and rides which actually worked before the Tories destroyed it all with bus deregulation. Get office workers into the city. Some of this is happening but not the Metro centre bit. God I hate that place. As things stand I can see John Lewis and/or Fenwick going and then what's left?3 points

The wage bill has to get bigger if we want to compete. Of course it impacts your profit, so it impacts your PSR, but we should see this as a positive sign that we're growing and have grown our income to the point where we can start to compete on wages with the big lads.3 points

I watched 20 mins or so of the first half, they actually played some really nice stuff, which was a surprise, Sheffield Utd looked dogshit, pleasantly surprised by the result.3 points

https://bsky.app/profile/petshopboys.co.uk/post/3lc3uekynac2l Very sad to learn that this renowned music shop is closing in Newcastle. As a teenager I used to visit after school and listen to Bowie in one of their stereo listening booths and then browse through the records and sheet music and wish I could afford a posh guitar. It will be much missed. Neil x3 points

My mother in law spent the last weeks of her life in intolerable pain. She wanted to die. The state wouldn’t not facilitate what she wanted. If we assisted her we would have committed a crime. I agree with Strawb. This bill is a triumph and has restored my faith in this country. Steamer’s first big win. Brilliant piece by Dunt btw @Gemmill3 points

I see they've started to turn on the manager a bit tonight. They're literally having their best season in about 8 years.3 points

Friday night in, having a couple of drinks, chilling, couple of mates having a bit of crack via WhatsApp..... The Crack: Mate 1: "Last time I had ibuprofen was on me 60th birthday…I wasn’t feeling too good and me and Jane had the night in Berwick, had curry for lunch and Turkish for evening meal…as well as about 8 Ibuprofen…then the next day we went to Holy Island and we were about a mile away from the public toilets and the previous days Ibuprofen / food kicked in and despite a rather speedy walk to get to the bogs..I failed to reach them and shat my pants..I blamed it on turning 60. It wasn’t amusing at the time…though I do laugh now. Anyway, I got to the bogs as the last 100 yards or so were rather arse clenching as my guts certainly weren’t empty. I got ito the cubicle, dropped me trousers, peeled me boxers off me arse and sat on the bog…caked arse and boxers full of mud, and the smell unbearable. I took my socks, shoes and jeans off…gave my arse a wash with the bog water, and wiped myself clean with my socks, then dumped me socks and boxers down the bog, and put me jeans and socks back on. I didn’t feel dirty at all…and that was that. I’m glad I was of assistance to humour you chaps on this glorious evening…I don’t want to get into the drive home, but I thought I cleaned up thoroughly…and I was clearly acclimatised to my stench…Jane had difficulties driving without wretching. If it’s any consolation I haven’t shat myself since." Mate 2: I’ve had a similar experience myself. I drank Guinness for two days with the lads a few years back. We were playing cards in a pub in Durham when I indulged in a slight botty burp. I realised when I stood up that my arse and back were covered in black shite. Fortunately, I was wearing a trendy cardigan so I tied it around my waist until we got to the next pub. When I carried out a site survey I discovered that my worst fears had indeed come to pass. I spent a good 15 minutes raking out my 501’s and generally cleaning myself up. The train ride back was a little challenging as my chums took great pleasure in my misfortune." I recounted this tale....3 points

Aye Big Dan Burn was fully tremendous today. Always is really. Aye maybe not as fleet of foot as some would like, but as an all out defender one of the best we’ve ever had.2 points

I went to the match. It feels like we don’t have a plan at the moment. That said, I thought Dan Burn was outstanding - what a man!2 points

I think Willock is a much better player for us against bigger teams who leave space to run into. You can see it in this second half that he's getting into it a little bit more as the spaces open up, although he's still not playing well. Against teams that are content to just sit in, he really struggles to get into the game.2 points

Joelinton’s best games this season - and for most of his time here tbh - has been wide left. Willock was poor against West Ham but we looked much better in the winning run prior to that with him and big Joe down our left. The truth is Gordon is our best option at RW. Not his fault that we haven’t recruited properly in that position. I’d rather he played LW too but not when our options at RW are Miggy and Murphy. Tonali’s best game for us came against Chelsea in the cup when he occupied Bruno’s number 6 role. He hasn’t started a game since. I don’t get it, particularly when Bruno’s best games for us came when he played the number 8 role after he first signed. Why not try him again there given we’re crying out for creativity further up the pitch when the opposition sit deep. I think the West Ham game poked holes in the narrative that we can’t win unless Sean starts. He started against West Ham and was just as bad as willock. He’s useful in certain games but Howe has to find a way to get our best technical players on the pitch. To that end I’d start Tripoier today too if he’s fit.2 points

He's a great writer and I totally agree with you and strawb. I didn't think it was gonna go through, I thought it would get voted down and it would be another generation at least before there was another chance. To give someone the chance to decide for themselves how they want things to end, and not basically just say "no, suffer til the bitter end".... I don't know why it's taken so long. PS Steamer's greatest triumph. What a typo.2 points

So because there is a theoretical risk of coercion or because of the risk of "slippery slope" (a logical fallacy in itself) others should suffer a tortured undignified death, or be forced into suicide, alone? None of the arguments against assisted death stack up for me. It's all about others wanting control over your life, and death. Taking away your bodily autonomy. And 90% of the time this boils down to religion, with people desperately trying to hide this using a range of fallacious logical arguments that wouldn't be out of place in sixth form. My body, my mind, my choice thanks, end of. Also, nice to see parliament debate this respectfully and reach the right conclusion.2 points
