@Tdansmithentirely up to you obviously, but I would strongly recommend coming off twitter. If you don't, it's overwhelmingly likely that Musk's algorithm will do its job and melt your brain. He has it in for this government and this country at the minute, and his algorithm is literally designed to stoke division and hatred. You can let it do its job on you, or you can opt out. Like I say it's up to you, but that website is clearly doing its job at the minute. It won't make you a happier person to stay on there, it'll turn you into a ball of hatred, and a lot of the stuff you'll be wound up about will either be completely untrue or a very one-sided interpretation of the facts. Some of it will be batshit insane propaganda and conspiracy, but the drip drip of more believable stuff will eventually lead you to wonder "well if they did that other stuff, is this really that mental?!". Anyway. My advice. Take it or leave it, but good luck if you decide to stay on there.8 points

As for Musk His own AI has identified him as one the main spreaders of misinformation on Twatter. https://fortune.com/2024/11/14/grok-musk-misinformation-spreader/?fbclid=IwY2xjawGkGkNleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHXLRsf-9gKDswLQ73FDXip8z5w9hdo81ijtmG0pHgdX_SjGUfI_XFnOceQ_aem_NkZfOIdAeJsYVVs0ACMaCQ6 points

Keep all this in mind and you’ll not go far wrong on Musk and the other wankers who inhabit this particular vile sphere of humanity https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/nov/17/how-to-survive-the-broligarchy-20-lessons-for-the-post-truth-world-donald-trump4 points

To TDanSmith I feel compelled to share a chilling warning, not just for the good of our forum, but for the future of our society. What I’m about to say may sound unbelievable to some, but I urge you to listen closely. The global elite – those in power who pull the strings behind the scenes – are engineering a plan to impose Sharia law upon us. This isn't some distant theory or far-off possibility; it’s happening right now, in plain sight. The key players, some of whom are positioned as saviors of the common man, are secretly making deals with the very forces we once feared. The terms? They will be exempt from the laws they impose on the rest of us. Mark my words, only the likes of Musk and Farage stand in a position to fight back against this unprecedented betrayal. They alone see the true scope of the elite’s manipulations, and yet, even they may be too late. This is not just political or economic. It’s a systematic overhaul of our freedoms, masked as "progress." If you think it’s just some theoretical alarmism, you’re sadly mistaken. The walls are closing in on us. The signs are everywhere, hidden in plain sight. As I write this, I hear a loud banging on my door. (Loud bang, footsteps) It’s them. The authorities. They’ve come for me. I’ve been too vocal, too close to uncovering the truth. Before they take me, I leave you with one last warning: We are not just on the brink of a new world order. We are at the precipice. Do not let your guard down. This isn’t a drill. I can hear them outside. It’s over. But remember what I’ve said. The global elite think they can silence the truth, but they can’t hide it forever. Watch, listen, and prepare. We are all in this together. Stay alert. Stay united. Stay free.4 points

One this pops into my head semi regularly about that Sunderland show. When they are giving Chris Coleman shit outside the stadium and a fan calls him a cunt, his response is completely mental. ”Cunt am I? I’ve got 6 six kids” Wtf has that got to do with anything?3 points

From the further history of the Cockends… “The marriage 1578 of John Cockend to Anne Bellhat created hyphenated branch of the family who made their fortune in the manufacture of military helmets, and the polishing of said products.” Johnny Ballzac, genealogist and crypto-bro.2 points

Nowt to do with Musk, but in a somewhat related topic to the earlier posts, I found out while I was away on this trip that the cunt who killed my brother is now in open prison, and will be eligible for likely release in a year or so. Will have done 17yrs if that’s the case, for going armed with knives and a cleaver and attacking him from behind. I’m sure 17yrs in Durham is no party, but the news brings back all the emotions from back then, with added bitterness from the reality of his absence in our lives. It brings up a conflict between what I believe prison should be- punishment and rehabilitation, and my actual, gut-punch feelings of “this cunt has no right to be getting out this soon”. No point in whining about it mind, there’s fuck-all I can do about it. As the family of the victim, we got to have a statement read out to the parole board at his hearing. He had the option of listening to it or not. We don’t have the right to know if he did or not, nor for that matter, anything at all about his behaviour/progress inside. One thing where we felt we had a smattering of agency in the whole process was requesting an exclusion zone in our locality upon his eventual release ( which they agreed on, and then some- it’s basically a three mile radius from my Mam’s house). Anyway, rights or wrongs, principles or realities, it felt like a proper kick in the bollocks, but, I’ll get over it. God help the fat cunt if me or my older brother ever see him mind2 points

I’m always dubious about these. My sister bought me a book about the origins of sayings years ago. And I subsequently found out a lot of them were probably bollocks. Like ‘dead ringer’ and bells in coffins. The phrase wasn’t in common usage until much later than its supposed origin. It probably referred to ‘ringers’ in horse races, with ‘dead’ in the sense of true or spot on. Back from the days when a horse would be entered in a race under a different name to fool the bookies. I suspect daylight robbery is the same. It mentions a 17th century tax but the first usage according to the OED is not until the 1800s. You can never be sure but the phrase not being found until a lot later is about as sure as you can be. I guess it was literally about a robbery being committed in broad daylight. Lots of phrases do have interesting origins though. And loads still in common usage came from Shakespeare’s work2 points

Meanwhile I don't need an algorithm. I implanted the little two note melodic line from Gorillaz' "On Melancholy Hill" into my lass's head just before bed last night and she's woken up today feeling like she's going mad. I just keep dropping in the odd reminder every now and again this morning to keep it fresh for her.2 points

I'd add: If you use twitter to talk about Newcastle and don't want to lose that, join Bluesky and ask Kev Lawson to add you to his starter pack. You'll very quickly have hundreds of followers and hundreds of NUFC people in your feed to get your NUFC fix, minus all the bots and blueticks. And most importantly, there's no algorithm on there feeding you one very fucked up man's outlook on the world.2 points
