  8. Completely agree, Gloomy. Not sure if you're thinking along the same lines, but, for me, it's an example of a match where we could play Tonali at 6 and Bruno at 8. Howe likes 8s with the pace to run in behind, but against a team happy to sit deep, who will let us have possession and challenge us to break them down, runs in behind from deep are less likely to be effective, and, so, I'd like to see Bruno in the 8 position to get our key playmaker further up the pitch. I'd still like the Willock-Joelinton setup on the left and left-mid to keep things organised. I think Howe has hit on a golden goose there as they dovetail beautifully and seem to have a wonderful understanding of each other's games. I'd also like to see Kelly start ahead of Burn. Against a team likely to gift us possession and try to counterattack, I feel like pace at the back will be crucial to (a) give everyone confidence to execute the press with the necessary level of aggression to keep them penned in, and (b) the ability to recover when the press doesn't work (and having Tonali at 8 helps there too I think given his extra pace over Bruno).

  15. The left should stop trying to appease or appeal to the right wing. Stand for something, whether you can deliver on the dream or not. Plenty of shit wrong with Corbyn, but at least I knew where he stood before the election, I can't say the same for Starmer. My vote for was 100% a "Not a fucking Tory", it wasn't pro Labour, not really. Be bold, call out the ridiculous claims of the right, for sure, but actually stand for some socialist policies. Promise to tax the fuck out of the 0.1%, Robin Hood the utility companies, put a meaningful cap on essentials like gas, electric, water, public transport, childcare, food. Promise to revolutionise the license fee. Promise to cut University places, but make those that remain cost nothing to those who need help. Promise to put more money into vocational courses and apprenticeships. Promise to draw random hearts on people's dream journals. All that good shit. Then, when you win, look down the barrel of the camera and scream "Ahhhhh chinny reckon" and do whatever the fuck you want.

  19. As a kid growing up in the 80s when the 4 minute warning felt like an all too likely possibility, I remember us talking as mates about what we would do in those 4 minutes. Think the unanimous response was pretty much "Yeah, I'd have a shag!". I mean for some reason now as low testerone middle aged bloke (hey, we can't all be MF), that really doesn't strike me as something that would be happening.

  29. Project 2025, a summary: Government Structure and Bureaucracy Personnel Overhaul: Streamline federal hiring by implementing a "Conservative LinkedIn" for administration roles, and prepare appointees through the Presidential Administration Academy. Executive Power: Increase presidential control over executive agencies, reducing the autonomy of career bureaucrats, and aim to limit perceived “deep state” influence on policy decisions. Economy and Financial Regulation Tax and Spending Reform: Cut taxes, reduce federal spending, and simplify the tax code to stimulate private sector growth. Regulation Rollback: Curb the powers of regulatory bodies like the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), aiming to lessen restrictions on businesses. Federal Reserve: Shift Federal Reserve policy focus towards economic stability and away from social or environmental objectives. Energy and Environmental Policy Energy Independence: Expand domestic fossil fuel production by opening federal lands to drilling and reducing restrictions on oil, gas, and coal. Climate Policy Shift: De-emphasise climate change as a policy priority by scaling back initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions, reducing the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) role in climate regulation. Renewable Energy: Redirect government support away from renewable energy subsidies and towards fossil fuel investment. Defence and Foreign Policy Military Prioritisation: Strengthen national defence by increasing the defence budget and refocusing on conventional military power rather than climate or diversity initiatives. Immigration Control: Reform immigration policies by building stronger border protections, limiting pathways to citizenship, and increasing deportations. Social and Cultural Issues Education Reform: Encourage “school choice” policies, increase support for homeschooling, and reduce the Department of Education’s influence on curriculum standards, especially regarding diversity and equity. Gender and Family Policies: Restrict access to gender-affirming healthcare, and promote policies that prioritise traditional family structures. Project 2025 broadens the definition of "obscene" material to include a variety of LGBTQ+ content and discussions on gender identity, suggesting that these too should be restricted. Religious Liberty: Bolster protections for religious institutions and individuals, especially in healthcare and business sectors where actions may conflict with religious beliefs. Pornography: restricting access, positioning it as a societal harm comparable to drug addiction. Proposing a national ban on adult content, arguing that pornography is not protected by the First Amendment and should be outlawed. This plan entails criminal penalties for those producing, distributing, or facilitating access to such content. Drugs: Project 2025 proposes a significant shift in federal marijuana policy, aiming to reinforce federal prohibition despite state-level legalisation efforts. The plan emphasises a zero-tolerance approach, potentially revoking protections for individuals and businesses operating under state marijuana legalisation frameworks. Guns: Project 25 proposes relaxing federal restrictions on gun ownership through measures like Concealed Carry Reciprocity (CCR). This proposal would require all states to recognise each other's concealed carry permits, allowing individuals to carry concealed firearms across state lines regardless of differing state regulations. This policy has raised concerns among experts and advocacy groups. Law Enforcement and Legal Reform Judicial Reforms: Emphasise the appointment of conservative judges, and advocate for a strict interpretation of the Constitution. Crime Policy: Advocate for stricter penalties and increased federal support for local law enforcement, reducing reform-oriented approaches Immigration and Border Management Mass Deportations: The plan outlines a large-scale deportation strategy, which would include expanding "expedited removal" procedures for immigrants found anywhere in the U.S., not just near borders. This would enable ICE to conduct deportations more swiftly, potentially even in sensitive locations like schools and hospitals Militarization of Border Security: Project 2025 calls for enhanced use of military resources at the border, advocating for the deployment of National Guard personnel and increased construction of barriers. This focus on deterrence is aimed at preventing unlawful entries and would involve stricter enforcement measures, particularly impacting asylum seekers Wronguns Programme: People of dubious character, such as Gemmill for instance, will be encouraged to enter the country with a lifetime subscription to Obnoxious Accountants Online. Expanded Detention Facilities: The proposal suggests increasing detention capacity to hold up to 100,000 individuals awaiting deportation. Elimination of Specific Immigration Relief Programs: Key programs, such as Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for individuals from countries facing crises, would be cut. This could affect hundreds of thousands who currently have work authorisation under these protection.

  30. As Meenzer said though, it's a squad game. Whilst I think Burn has been solid, yes he had a rest v Chelsea in the Carabou but he's played the other games recently. Yes we have slightly longer between games this week, but starting Kelly over Burn doesn't mean it's because Burn's been wank, it's realising it's a long season and he's a physical player. If they start MGW and Elanga are pacey and therefore Kelly maybe better suited to this than Burn who has been found wanting a couple of times this season in that department.

  31. That gives Trump far more credit than he’s due I think. Targeting the idiots isn’t particularly hard or revolutionary thinking. And he’s not exactly performing on any of his promises. I honestly see Trump as an aberration- if he’d never put himself in to politics, a huge amount of his MAGA cult would’ve just beetled away quietly being racists and hypocrites. Doesn’t make the shitstorm he’s leaving in his wake any easier to deal with, but he’s not going to go down in any political histories as a great planner and thinker. Covfefe

  34. So the goalkeepers from three of the bottom five teams get a call up but the keeper from the team with the third meanest defence gets dropped?

  35. Yes, but how? At the end of the day, the phrase "it's the economy, stupid" which worked (together with a bit of racism). No doubt Trump will see the benefit of work done over the last 4 years (after the Covid nightmare he created), but he simply cannot deliver on his promises of lower taxes for all or cheaper food and fuel. Of course, he does not care. He said what people wanted to hear. Should Harris have promised the same? Trump has more personality than Harris, but he is spectacularly incompetent, relying on others around him. If the voters are willing to accept his lies and take his promises at face value, then democracy has spoken. Musk has already said that the US needs to rip $2 trillion from spending. Not sure how that is going to be achievable, especially with 15% company tax and no tax on overtime, etc, but it will impact a huge number of those who voted for Trump. In another 4 years, he will be gone, if not sooner. He does have a complete carte blanche in the meantime, so we have to worry about just how much he will fuck up, but hopefully, he will shuffle off. John Oliver was pointing out the other night that he is getting into crypto currencies now and has promised to get rid of the SEC Chairman who wants to regulate the sector. The rules about Presidents not benefitting from the Office will not apply to him. He may also marry Ivanka and pardon himself afterwards, because it would be "Presidential" to have a new First Lady. Melania is probably happy with that option, because she probably sees she is stuck with him of another 4 years. That leaves Vance, and who knows what he will do, but he is more likely to be used as someone else's puppet, who will be more concerned with their pockets than blowing up the world. Can I offer an alternative? No, but I don't believe that America is willing to accept left-leaning policies (aka communistic), so it really is left to dealing with the shit sandwich in front of you, but you still need to be honest. Hopefully, MF's wish for AOC will happen, but she is already regarded as further left than Lenin by many. Rant over. Glad I live in Hobbiton, now. Hopefully, we aren't targetted with nuclear warheads, on the basis that we are too far away for anyone to bother about us.
