  1. You can see how fucked off tourists get like. They arrive for a nice day out on the quayside, walk to to the millenial Bridge, look at Google maps and say: "Wait, what's this? That promotional material we got from the hotel lobby this morning implied that the Baltic was in Newcastle. But looking at this map, it actually resides in the metropolitan Borough of Gateshead! Which was once in County Durham! I'm absolutely fuming about this misrepresentation Barbara. "

  5. Definitely seems like one for the future / cover for injury / and playing in cup games to give Pope a rest. Since the site has been on the blink in the past week, I've been on Twitter looking through the #NUFC tag on a few occasions (not recommended) and there seems to be a real level of stupidity there, with one particular highlight being an idiot calling for Howe to be fired because of our transfer dealings so far this window. For me, this seems like a good signing. What is he? 21 or 22? And already in and around the international squad with a full season of PL experience under his belt already. If things go well, he could conceivably be our keeper for the next 15 years. He appears to be comfortable with the ball at his feet, coming from the City system & playing under Kompany. So that seems crucial in that he is style of keeper we need. We could possibly have England's future GK, LB & RB in the squad now in the three youngsters we've signed. That's amazing business to get done so early in our development and it certainly continues to show a level of patience and future planning that holds us in good stead. I'm excited by what this signing represents and promises long-term and not so much by what it offers in the immediate or short term. And we're after medium- to long-term plans in the goalkeeping department as far as I'm concerned because Pope is a great keeper. Replacing him with better immediately would be prohibitively expensive in my opinion so much so that it simply isn't worth it to try and upgrade Pope when there are other way more important positions in the starting XI to address -- obviously RW being the most important. This transfer ticks all the boxes for me. On other transfers, I'm really hoping that Minteh doesn't get sold. And selling him to a rival PL club should be completely out of the question. He seems to have real potential. Of course, he may have been purchased with an eye for a future sale in mind, but if he's outperformed expectations, which you'd have to suggest he has done, then there's no reason to sell him in order to facilitate the purchase of a 100m player if he's barely a season or two off maybe being one himself (which appears at least possible at this stage). By the way, thank god, the site is fixed. I don't think I could take much more of the idiocy over on twitter.

  9. Much like the alleged human rights concerns you can guarantee they’d never given kittiwakes a second thought (beyond sexual fantasies) before all this. It’ll act as a handy conduit for their overt racism though

  10. Thats fine. Isak is clear first choice and we're not going to spend significant money on his backup when there are parts of the first 11 that need investment. Assuming Hall has made LB his own towards the end of the season and will play more than he did then right wing is where the cash needs to go.

  14. the thing is with this, if they were being sincere I'd actually have a shit load of sympathy with their stance. I think disturbing the nesting kittiwakes is a profoundly stupid and irresponsible thing to do and nufc/sela/the council should hang their heads in shame for going ahead with this when they have. genuinely. that said, it's took three pages for one of the cunts to actually acknowledge that these birds are kittiwakes and not seagulls. they're, white, got grey wings, yellow feet, predominantly live by the sea and the average mackem's primary concern is whether or not they're still virgins and do they spit or swallow?

  19. NJS is right about a lot of people being cunts. Although I think a fair proportion of people naturally conservative leaning are selfish rather than outright racist etc. I mean the two things aren’t mutually exclusive but the reason I think they’re fucked as a party for a while is people have long memories. And it’s those selfish cunts that have been negatively financially impacted that have turned against them now. In the past I didn’t agree with them, but you could see why those comfortably off, middle class people would vote for them. They were looked after in terms of being better off and taxed lower. At least that was the perception. Now that’s not the case, public services are crumbling, everything including your mortgage costs more etc. There’s not really many people they can appeal to. It’s really just my parent’s generation, who retired on daft pensions in their 50s who don’t pay a mortgage as it was paid off decades ago. There’s precious few people left that are insulated from what the Tories have done and there’s not another generation coming that have it that good. Obviously that’s not the extent of their dubious appeal but in general they’ve fucked off their traditional base

  23. Yeah that makes no sense at all. To bring one injury prone player in for another, or to even bring him in and relegate Wilson to third choice makes little sense either given they'd both be on massive wages and could easily both get crocked at the same time.

  24. Douglas in the i has said that there could be another big name July suprise much like the Tonali signing, hopefully without his particular added suprise. So if Kelly and Trafford aren't exactly floating your boat then we might get some big name excitement yet. I'd imagine it will be a player for that right wing slot. So maybe a Chiesa or someone of that ilk. We have heard Bowen's name mentioned but that would be serious money, so I can't see it happening. I'd take Mbuemo for the right given he'd be a bit more realistic and cheaper than Bowen. They both of course have the added bonus of being able to play as a centre forward.

  25. I do that now with family and it's north of £100 even in a modest place. Had some nice eggs benedict and coffee this weekend at a local cafe, was £16. The cost of eating and drinking out is the mot noticeable thing recently I think. We've got a decent household income, but can rarely afford to eat out. Holidays are another. Feels like you are just working to survive and this will also eventually fuck your mental health.

  26. Yeah but it's not as simple as that, because there are people currently voting for Reform that wouldn't vote Conservative, and likewise people voting Conservative who wouldn't dream of voting Reform. The right is currently split in this country, which is why we're about to see the Tories destroyed at the next election. Whatever emerges from that wreckage isn't going to command 39% of the vote in a single entity.
    2 points
  27. I know it's not as simple as Reform voters switching to the Tories if they didn't exist and I don't think that Reform will stand down but anyone thinking this election represents some great reset of politics should note that 24 +15 is 39 and 41/39 wouldn't even produce a labour majority going by previous results. This country still has a sizeable portion of cunts despite the generational shift.

  31. Ahh right, I didn't know they actually nested on the Baltic itself. Would seem fair enough to only permit this outside nesting season I guess. Just before the season kicks off would be better. Or preferably, as has been said, just not bother.

  32. this post was going so well till point 3. as any mackem would be able to tell you their iconic co. durham landmark the baltic flour mill is home to approximately 193 pairs of breeding kittiwakes, each and every one of them ardent mlfs. it's quite petty of you really not to acknowledge what is the most inland colony of kittiwakes anywhere in the WORLD just because it happens to be deep in mackem territory on the south bank of the tyne. read this and feel your heart swell with pride..... https://www.nhsn.org.uk/tyne-kittiwakes/
