My shocking relationship with predominately with my brother, but my family in general is apparently the deep roots as for mine. As for Hillsborough - that threw me and was something that came out in a session. It's less about the specifics of what happen and more the treatment of the collective 'football fans' in the late 80s that angers me. Because people pulled on a football shirt and went to a match, they were automatically considered to be a problem - and it didn't matter what colour, creed, gender or age you were. We were all treated as second-rate citizens because of our interests. How fucking dare they! Hillsborough could have happened anywhere and could have involved fans of any club. And the fact 35 years later we still have no-one held to account for it, despite the unreserved apology given by the government 12 years (yes, 12!!!) absolutely infuriates me. It is a national disgrace.7 points

A dub is a version / remix of a track. It’s sometimes an instrumental but will at least emphasise the musical (especially drums / bass) elements over the lyrics. It comes from being short for ‘double’ as in remix, usually a B side of the original. The name comes from Lee Scratch Perry who would do bass heavy versions of reggae tracks with spacey synths and less or no vocals. This sound became the reggae sub-genre known as ‘Dub’. 8am here probably refers to the remix being a more chilled ‘post club’ version. And Nush are the remixers, known for their ‘Handbag House’ productions like ‘U Girls’. Obviously6 points

Glad to hear it Craig. I see a therapist too, it's helped my depression massively, my anxiety is still an ongoing issue which is of course a concern. And in being concerned about it, I get anxious and the whole merry dance starts again. I remember you not joining in with the abuse of the scousers and I genuinely thought there must be some familial tie, but it's really intriguing to hear it's linked to that disaster specifically and that you have more feelings tangled up in it. For me, apparently I have a huge huge hang up about food and that comes outin the way I eat, the way I fixate on certain dishes for a while then have an almost choleric reaction to it overnight, hoe I handle other people eating around me (I get properly triggered when my son doesn't eat properly, or if he dicks about at the table). Therapist says that's all linked to my bad relationship with my sister. Anyway, it's good to hear that the help is helping. I'd definitely recommend therapy for everyone, even people who feel fine.6 points

I'm not having that like. Trump represents the end of democracy in America if he gets re-elected. He nearly managed it last time, and this time he'll ensure that he dismantles any and all checks and balances so that he can finish the job. He's already corrupted the judiciary and the entire GOP, that part is done going in this time. You might not like Biden's policies, but he doesn't have designs on being a dictator.5 points

Amen. And yes, the McGovern thing is hard hitting. No apology needed. What I've learned this last year is not to be embarrassed by any of the shit going in your head - get it out there. If anyone has issue with it, it's their issue not yours.4 points

Mentioned before that I know a lad who works there and he says the morale is through the floor. So many colleagues of his are looking for new jobs, he is too. Something he mentioned is that Man Utd will have to fish in a pretty small pond for his replacement. A pond that's getting smaller with every press release. The amount of people with the right experience for his job, who'd actively want to work 5 days in the office, for an apparently regressive board is vanishingly small.4 points

They're utterly obsessed that everybody from Newcastle wears replica shirts but of course the fans of massive lads are way too classy for that. Aside from being utterly false as far as I can tell, I just find it odd that they keep on endlessly repeating the same point. Strange comfort blanket. There was some anti-social behaviour in a suburb of Sunderland the other day, and someone did some shirt counting and concluded it was the mags what done it. An example.4 points

It’s only Liz Truss though. It’s not like she’s had the massive influence like the political titan that is Diane Abbott has / had. It’s not like she’s a recent PM who completed fucked an already stalling economy. She’s not a current Tory mp, likely to stand and actually retain her seat at the coming election. Or someone who consistently shares a platform with neo-fascists. But aye, if there was any equivalence at all this would be a massive story and getting much more airtime than Abbott. Although despite the BBC’s best efforts, I suspect no one gives much of a shit about whether or not Abbott is a candidate. Most people who care about her actively dislike her / think she’s a moron. Thanks to the hatchet job outlets like the bbc have done on her in the past.4 points

Prefer Ragga or Raggamuffin myself - which, as you will know, is also a subgenre of reggae but one that pushes the techno aspects of dancehall reggae even further. It ditches live instruments altogether, building songs with only digital sounds, whoopee cushions, red stripe cans and triangles3 points

My best mate was a massive football fan in the 80s like a lot on here. He's a Bradford fan and travelled up and down the country to watch them. He was caught up in the Bradford fire. Thankfully physically he was fine, but he still has some issues with that. But he has a bigger issue with Hillsborough and it sounds similar to your issue Craig in terms of the treatment of fans as a whole. He's not watched football really since the early 90s as a result.3 points

I couldn’t watch the Jimmy McGovern tv film about Hillsborough. I started and it made me too upset and angry. Sorry to hijack this slightly, Craig. Thanks for sharing your feelings. Same with you, Fish. Please use this place for this sort of thing if helps you, everyone. Don’t bottle shit up. It’s bad for you. Even if it’s not here, speak to someone3 points

I said that Labour does a *better* job of funding education. This was based on my memory of them last being in power rather than a misguided understanding of them having anything to do with funding over the last 14 years. I am a primary teacher and I was when Labour were last in government. The only issue is, not only was that 14 years ago, I was at the start of my career and therefore had nothing to do with a school budget or any knowledge of my school budget was. They did a far better job of funding education as I do know that we were able to do things that I would bend over backwards to offer the kids today. I am still under the belief that you cannot serve two masters. I believe that unless there is one education system, there will not be an equal access to education for all. I am also against private health services as well. I know that people should be allowed to spend their hard earned money but this impacts on other people. My son recently was told he needed braces. My wife wanted us to pay privately to speed it up. This really sat uncomfortably with me as the conversation that we had with the dentist was basically that if we paid, he jumped the line and everyone who was already on the list just just bumped down. This is just a vanity project with teeth but this will be happening with people with cancer and other serious issues. It just doesn't sit easily with me. I am looking forwards to a change of government and I hope that we can get somewhere close to where we were 14 years ago.3 points

I'll be the mag at work on steroids. One of my old managers was a manager at nissan, he hated the tunnel travel every day but loved the job apparently. Anyway, he says there was about three managers would select people for interviews, all three B&W. He said there was two piles, an 'interview' pile and a 'naah, y'alreet, mate' pile. The former pile had a high proportion of 'NE' postcodes, 'SR' postcodes.......? Not so much.2 points

Have been seeing a therapist for coming up to a year and honestly it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I've learned more about myself in the last year than I ever did in the preceding 46. As I've alluded to on here there has been some really difficult moments in that 12 months and a moment when everything nearly came to an abrupt end. I've learned how to manage myself, how to deal with those situations and how to introduce alcohol back into my life. I've made some tough calls along the way - people who add no value to me have been dispensed with. Finally I've learned a lot about what causes many of the negative emotions I experience. I understand what makes me angry about the world and am learning to be open about those things and look to heal. Bizarrely (to me, anyway!) one of the things that makes me really angry more than anything is what happened at Hillsborough all those years ago. None of the victims were anyone I know and I've got no affiliation to Liverpool FC but I'm as angry as if I would be if it had wiped out my whole family. I don't ever feel I had the right to be so furious about it, but apparently I do - it's relatable to a lot of deep-rooted challenges I have. My advice to anyone struggling is to talk. To someone professionally and independently. If there's something in this age we live in that need significant profile increase it's the mental health agenda. What taking those relatively small steps can do is nothing short of remarkable, however difficult the journey may be along the way.2 points
