  1. Have been seeing a therapist for coming up to a year and honestly it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I've learned more about myself in the last year than I ever did in the preceding 46. As I've alluded to on here there has been some really difficult moments in that 12 months and a moment when everything nearly came to an abrupt end. I've learned how to manage myself, how to deal with those situations and how to introduce alcohol back into my life. I've made some tough calls along the way - people who add no value to me have been dispensed with. Finally I've learned a lot about what causes many of the negative emotions I experience. I understand what makes me angry about the world and am learning to be open about those things and look to heal. Bizarrely (to me, anyway!) one of the things that makes me really angry more than anything is what happened at Hillsborough all those years ago. None of the victims were anyone I know and I've got no affiliation to Liverpool FC but I'm as angry as if I would be if it had wiped out my whole family. I don't ever feel I had the right to be so furious about it, but apparently I do - it's relatable to a lot of deep-rooted challenges I have. My advice to anyone struggling is to talk. To someone professionally and independently. If there's something in this age we live in that need significant profile increase it's the mental health agenda. What taking those relatively small steps can do is nothing short of remarkable, however difficult the journey may be along the way.

  2. ABREORDIE a-bror-dee The accentuated, raised decibel pseudo Geordie/mackem accent an MLF puts on outside his country's borders to people not from his region. eg; 'EE-AH, IT'S CANNY HOT, MARRA, ISN'T IT? ESPECIALLY WHEN YAV BEYN CHUCKING THE MORETTEY DOWN AT PONTEYLAND AIRPORT BUT AM NOT PISSED OR OWT BECAUSE AH CAN TAK MY DRINK UNLIKE THE MAGS. IT'S ACTUALLY CALLED NEWCASTLE AIRPORT BUT IT'S NOT RAYLLEY IN NEWCASTLE AND SUNDERLAND COUNCIL HELPED PEY FORRIT. WHEYE DO YA SUPPORT, MARRA? I'M SUNLIN TILL AH DIE JUST LIKE THE NETFLIX SHOW, DID YA WATCH IT? WENT GLOBAL, MATE. SUNDERLAND FANS AL OVER THE WORLD NOW, GENUINE FANS ANAARL NOT LIKE THE 92 BANDWAGON JUMPERS UP THE ROAD AT SID JAMES PARK! DO YOU HATE THE SAUDI MAGS ANAARL?'

  3. My money is on UEFA not making a stand šŸ˜’ Lots of talk of Chelsea declining their Europa League place to avoid FFP scrutiny from UEFA too. Weā€™re only a Villa disqualification due to their fans abysmal accent away from the CL group stages tbh

  4. The two lads who interviewed me brought up the football wanting to know who I followed. All I'm saying is the cabal of mysterious Tyneside businessmen have very long tentacles and I got the job.

  9. Start a new job next week, other than having to work every Sunday and being a bit of a hike it seems good enough, no night shift/back shifts, three days a week, decent pay, better job. Fingers crossed this time!

  10. For some reason this reminds me of once hearing John Anderson describing something which totally went under the radar at the time but NUFC accepted an offer from the mackems for him. He described meeting Denis Smith at Roker Park but first driving away from SJP with Jim Smith shaking his hand, hoping the negotiations would go well, saying he'd been a model pro to work with and wishing him well. After a tour of Roker and chatting with Sunderland John said he didn't think he could do the move as it mightn't go down well with the fans and he was settled in his house and been at NUFC too long to be able to play for them etc. Denis Smith said their fans would be fine as long he did the business on the pitch but Anderson said it was our fans that would worry him. Anyway he thanks Denis Smith but KB's him then returns to SJP and Jim Smith asks him how it went? Anderson tells him what happened to which the bald eagle went berserk saying he needed him off the books, he was being unprofessional, all the cunts etc and he'd never play for him again! luckily for Anderson Smith was sacked not long after. Sooooo..... The moral of the story is, Ritchie and Dummett are great lads and have helped us in dark days and we wish them well but if they don't fuck off they're cunts.

  14. the mackems have a bitter, bitter hatred for the staffordshire minnows since alex neil walked out of their massive club to join the potters in '22. also, it's rumoured at around about the same time a stoke fan was heard to innocently remark that his club played in the same colour shirts as athletic bilbao and its spiralled out of control ever since.

  16. Apart from that short period when it was ā€˜Mag-like behaviourā€™. Which, by pure chance, coincided with them not being able to get hold of them, due to a tinpot operation in Co Durham having the contract for supplying the kits to fans.

  17. And go berserk when someone asks them if they are from Newcastle despite the accents sounding pretty similar to anyone not from the north east (or at least familiar with both). Theyā€™ll go full blown nuts at the notion they are a geordie instead of saying ā€œhahaha na, mateā€¦ā€ which is the appropriate response to something so minor Luckily Newcastle is the famous part of the region so we never have to find out how weā€™d react to being asked if weā€™re from sunā€™lin. However, I think the laugh seems more likely.

  18. Aye, that's the weird thing. That Sunderland fans lay out their travelling outfit the night before a holiday and it's ALWAYS one of their shitty strips. And then they arrive and make a point of exploring the hotel and walking round the pool area in them, so everyone can mark their cards that the bamps have landed.

  19. Shewally not? A NE based Stoke fan with no axe to grind against either club seeing more MLF shirts than NUFC shirts at the airport? Although he hasn't mentioned it I'm sure there was no fevered discussions with Mags about how they could just walk about with them on and everybody just letting them as that would just be silly.

  20. It would be hilarious after ALL THE HARD WORK Erik has done and then Sir Jim single handedly gets them demoted to another competition.

  21. On the plus side, they might have to drop into the conference league cos Nice are already in the Europe League and got there by finishing higher in Ligue 1. Ineos are in talks with UEFA and are "confident" everything will be fine, but I'll direct you to Ratcliffe's confidence that they would get Ashworth for a song. If UEFA don't take a stand here, then this rule basically goes in the bin and it won't be long before clubs under the same ownership are playing one another in semi finals, with all the controversy that would bring.

  25. Who does he think he is man? This all probably appeals to some of the more arrogant amongst the team's following (so about 80% of them), but it's doing him zero favours with the actual people he needs to negotiate with.

  26. They've predictably produced a thread several thousand posts long about us not qualifying for Europe. Apparently we are in meltdown rather than being - in my view - mildly disappointed. And of course the world needs another thread obsessing about county Durham mags and the proportion of Mags/MLFs by postcode, to add to the several hundred others. https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/the-term-geordie-ā€¦-they-arenā€™t-all-skunks.1633940/

  27. Different shift patterns for different roles I think, I know a lad from my last job who's there in a different role to mine doing a different shift pattern. Apparently a few of them already there were after this job so hopefully they don't bear a grudge!

  28. As I've mentioned before, I went on Keith Barratt"s plane to Kiev in 2003 which was in September and it was hilarious to see all the MLFs heading on holiday, scrambling to change their shit tops after clocking a few daft lads wandering around the airport.

  30. Yeah and the BBC were all over it like a rash. So you can see why labour were being careful but they seem to have made a right fucking mess. Especially as the outcome of the investigation was known in December. The BBC going the whole fucking parliamentary legend and trailblazer thing about her as well, man. I donā€™t remember that attitude when she was in the shadow cabinet. In the same news bulletin they made a huge thing out of Rayner, despite them being completely exonerated. Saying it still hasnā€™t gone away. I do think Abbott has been treated quite shabbily in general here though.

Little wonder that they turn out so many entitled cunts who think the rules donā€™t apply to them. Fuck the lot of them tbh. Theyā€™re a massive part of the mess the country is in.

  39. Great article here about the threat to the Pacific North West of America and Canada from the Cascadia Subduction Zone. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/07/20/the-really-big-one Itā€™s a tectonic fault line about 80 miles offshore, running from Northern California up to Vancouver Island. Unknown until about 40 years ago, its cycle of activity runs roughly on a 250 year pattern, and itā€™s now 100 years overdue. When it does go, and it will, itā€™s going to be catastrophic- the land will drop by approximately 6 feet and rebound westwards for about 30-100 feet. That will cause a Tsunami which will hit land approximately 15 minutes after the quake. ( A wave anywhere between 20-100 feet is expected, depending on local topography). ā€œKenneth Murphy, who directs FEMAā€™s Region X, the division responsible for Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Alaska, says, ā€œOur operating assumption is that everything west of Interstate 5 will be toast.ā€ In terms of preparation in the US, itā€™s basically ā€¦ Within the inundation area, any survivors can expect no power for 6 months, no mains water for over 1-3 years, no permanent hospital facilities for 3+years.

  41. It's obligatory for them to be louder in the presence of non NE people, exaggerate their accents, trying to come across as sewper pally and over friendly before informing the unfortunate passer by that they're '....from Sunderland' when the unfortunate passer by never asked them where they were from in the first place.

  42. Agreed. Sheā€™s been a victim of being held up to different standards her whole career. And the scandal of the antisemitism in the party, and the need to deal with it has meant this is another example. I suspect that, given the stage of her career and how sheā€™s been treated etc, she is being cantankerous and they would quite like her to retire. If they end up with c. 450 MPs they are going to have to deal with more dissenting voices though. If she wants to cause a big stink and basically be a Tory enabler after the last 14 years she can do one though.
