Turns out we've signed a deal with JD Sports to be the only 3rd party retailer of next seasons shirt (outside of the club/Adidas). Fat Mike is fuming https://www.catribunal.org.uk/sites/cat/files/2024-03/16375724 - Sports Direct v Newcastle United - Summary of claim 21 Mar 2024.pdf7 points

Top tip for anybody who does proofing or editing as part of their job (and no, clearly I don't do this on this board). Get MS Word to read your text back to you, especially in the Lara Croft voice. You'll notice much more errors than just reading it again, and if you're turned on by Lara Croft, you can have a wank too. 👍6 points

Aye, one of the funniest things about Bruce is every fucker knows he’s lazy as fuck. The fucker barely bothered taking training sessions, rocked up late or not at all, it’s all pretty publicly known through player interviews etc. Despite this he takes massive offense to anyone that even suggests he’s not a massively hard working bloke , the bloke could have put some effort in but he genuinely just went straight back to watching Telly in his office during training sessions after being outraged by the notion people thought he was a grifting cunt.6 points

It's a tough one as there is a push for not performing surgery for ACL 'injuries'. Sometimes there are differing opinions on MRIs as to whether there is a full rupture or not, and if not whether it can recover on its own. The ACL is not in an area of the knee that gets good blood flow as it's internal compared to say the MCL which is on the outer of the knee and gets greater flow and is easier to see the condition in scans. From what I've read there were conflicting opinions with his original injury as to whether surgery was required. If it was a full rupture then surgery is definitely required as you need your ACL to play any level of sport let alone professionally. The ACL (in the middle of the knee) and the PCL (at the back) are the cruciate ligaments that form a cross to prevent the knee from being able to twist the wrong way (hence the name cruciate). After choosing the non-surgical option they must have done further MRIs that showed that the ligament was connected and presumably had increased in size/condition. Subsequent to returning he's injured it again, this time regardless of whether it's a complete rupture or not they'll have to go with surgery. Thing is there are many options for the surgery itself, each with pros and cons. Generally the best option for long term outcome is a graft using either hamstring or patella with a very slight reduction in recurrence percentage when using patella. Other options can be to use a donor (cadaver), but there is a higher chance or recurrence, though the benefit is there's no need for rehabilitation of the hamstring/patella. In my case I used my own hamstring, and subsequently suffered multiple hamstring injuries during my recovery from doing relatively mundane tasks. Hamstring seems to be mostly ok now which has helped to get the knee recovery back on track. There's also loads of different conjecture around the best angles for the graft to be attached, it's complicated stuff and having gone through some of it you can understand how his situation has played out like it did. Hindsight is always 20/20 but of course now we know they should have opted for surgery originally. He'd have missed the rest of this season as a minimum but given how he's not been himself simce returning that wouldn't have been such an issue anyway.6 points

His Sheff Wed stint btw. Delayed by a month so he could watch England play cricket in the Caribbean. Which was apparently because his parents had died the previous year or because he’d had an operation. Obviously the former is tragic but the cynic in he suggests he was simply trying it on. He repaid that by leaving them that summer the moment he got a better offer. Which, unfortunately, was us.5 points

Can you please stop freaking me out with the level of detail and precision with which you're prophesizing doom? Thanks. I'd prefer to get an idiot's opinion on this one. And for anyone else in the same boat as me, let me say, I'm sure he'll be fine.5 points

Our lass has had her colonoscopy and it’s all clear. Thank fuck. Been in James Cook all week with my brother because his fits were out of control, then drove down last night and spent all day today in the arse inspection unit of the MRI. Great week.5 points

News just in that Owen Jones plans to follow his announcement up with a hard hitting leaflet campaign4 points

I fear it's something of a jarring shift in tone to move straight from strawb's news to this... but it's also worth it:4 points

Win power first, improve lives later. Enough with being principled in opposition. Do what you need to do to win power and then restore public services and invest3 points

Owen Jones has written an article for the guardian explaining why he's just cancelled his Labour membership. I haven't read it, but I assume it's mostly for attention.3 points

I think it must be very difficult in the vast majority of cases to find the courage to go to your doctor and say that. Or even talk about it general. But I wish to fuck that more people would do it. And I am so glad that it is a lot easier and more acceptable than it ever used to be. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot more progress to make. I fucking despise these cunts. The sooner they’re out of power the better3 points

These cunts can't help themselves with the culture war. It's doing them no favours. I am sure Stride has good data to back these very specific figures up.3 points

Mate, I’m not exactly thrilled with the state of UK politics, or the world in general. But Labour giving the Tories a right fucking shoeing at the next general election is a definite positive in my view. I don’t know where we’re headed off the back of that but it’s got to be better than the alternative.2 points

If this happened I'd piss myself laughing btw. Not only at tory annihilation, but showing what a fucking farce FTP is when 9% for the LDs gets them 49 seats (up 41 from 2019 when they got 11.8% of the vote) and much as I hate them, Reform get 15% and get - checks notes - zero seats.2 points

It's disgusting unevidenced comment from the "party of common sense". If we're going to allow anecdotes here I know many people personally who can no longer cope due to a combination of poor access to healthcare, the Americanisation of work practices, detioration of schools and the impact of this on the their kids, and the cost of living crisis. All of which the government are responsible for. Instead of adressing these issues (and many others beside), Stride impies people with MH issues are malingerers, no doubt aided and abetted by woke GPs. Just fuck off you cunt.2 points

His 'we'd sold our strikers' bollocks was laughable - We had sold Mitro ages before as you mentioned, Perez was a midfielder, and he probably could have spent a relatively small sum to make Rondon's deal permanent. Instead he went along with the Joelinton transfer and slapped the No 9 on him thinking he'd automatically become a striker despite never playing as an out and out striker at any point in his career - absolutely killing the lads confidence and almost ruining his career in the process. Only to realise his mistake and then sign Wilson from a club he'd just been mocking (along with their manager) for getting relegated a few months prior. He really should ask himself why he's pretty much universally hated by the fan base of every club he's ever managed (Hull being the only exception - maybe) if he's such a good manager.2 points

He got a pretty easy ride as well. Which didn’t stop his knacker son trawling social media looking for fights. Steve Bruce then used that as evidence for all the shit him and his family had to put up with. Despite, according to him, only learning about it second hand. Like you say, a strange bloke. I’m glad it bothers him though, no wonder he got on with the equally thin-skinned Mike Ashley2 points
