Maybe they think people would want to stay in Sunderland when their team is playing Newcastle because loads of away fans do the opposite for their games9 points

"Hello Dortmund fans, we have set up a black and yellow gazeybo for you in the byewtiful city of Sunderland. Well it is a city, it doesn't need an airport. Technically, the mags don't have an airport either, it's in Ponteland. Cathedral? The mags have two, they stole one them from us, marra. Do you want the use of the gazeybo or not? Where is it? Pennywell marra. Hello?"9 points

VERY VERY UNLUCKY NOT TO GET AT LEAST A POINT LAST NIGHT AGAINST A WELL DRILLED AND EXPERIENCED DORTMUND TEAM. THE STATS DON'T LIE WE WERE BETTER THAN THEM FOR THE MOST PART ALTHOUGH BOTH TEAMS HAD GOOD OPENINGS. A COMBINATION OF A LACK OF QUALITY IN THE FINAL THIRD AND DARNED BAD LUCK SEEN US FIRE A VERY RARE BLANK. THERE WON'T BE MANY OF THEM THIS SEASON. YES I SHOUTED ALL OF THAT. BITE ME.6 points

Whenever they bang on human rights it should be pointed out the Facebook campaign proclaiming Johnson’s innocence (set up by his sister after his conviction) was a lot better supported than the Sunderland amnesty international group is6 points

I suppose now Mrs Wykikitoon's like a leaky fridge for Wilson, you need to make sure Gemmill can help you with the white wee wee after he finished with Adam P.6 points

There's been some shite written in the papers overnight man. "Howe taught a lesson", "reality check for mags", "toon come crashing down" We had more possession than them and the same number of shots. We hit the cross bar twice, missed a one on one and could have had a penalty. And that's after losing two players to injury. We were never going to walk all over Dortmund. They lost the league on the last day of last season. We more than held our own against them and will give them a good game in the return leg.5 points

Just when you think they’ve reached their nadir they plumb new depths. Why the fuck would they want to visit there when they’re playing Newcastle?4 points

Fully agree, it’s this desperation from the media to basically paint us as needing to be “put in our place”. As you say this is a Dortmund side who almost won a title last year and have been largely unbeaten this season, they also have a team of experienced CL players. It was far from a humbling, we held our own even in what was an off game from some of our main players and with injury troubles.4 points

I just want to thank @sammynbon his superior reign as match thread starter. One of the best ever.4 points

The only point I was trying to make is that whilst they are obviously a quality side there are far more successful ones in recent Champions League seasons. I don't think that can be debated really? I'm not saying it should distract from the fact that the team has given a great account of themselves over the first 3 games. But there's tougher European opposition to come if we make it through. Which is why all of this, even tonight's defeat, is an important part of the evolution as we look to become regulars at this stage. Just gota remember to enjoy all of it. We just played freaking Dortmund at St James' in the champions league. It's been 2 years since Steve Bruce was manager and we were diving headfirst into the championship4 points

We created one serviceable chance in the first hour. We conceded a goal and needed Nick Pope to keep us in it. After that we played quite well yeah. So we did and we didn’t and that was reflected in the stands iyam and always is. I think the atmosphere in the SE corner/Gallowgate was decent last night but we couldn’t and seldom ever hear much from the Leazes. Some of that is acoustics and some of it is punters waiting around for inspiration from the pitch . Our home crowd is obviously different to our away crowd. IMHO there’s too many miserable middle aged fuckers such as myself in the home crowd who’ve sat on season tickets since KK reappeared in 92 who (in a way rightly) think it’s up to the under 30s to get the singing going… sadly it’s difficult for the under 30s to get a regular seat in the ground all into the same area to try and get things going due to the amount of said aforementioned miserable middle aged fuckers occupying seats for 30 + years. So that’s a problem . I think PiF want to replace all “legacy profiles” with day trippers happy to also spend £50 each in the club shop every time they come to the ground. So that’s why we’re seeing secondary ticketing sites selling tickets for SJP and the square root of fuck all is being done about it by the club because they are very likely driving it. Then you have the ballot/membership issues well documented on here. There were games last season where the atmosphere was in and out but mostly out and it’s been the same this season . PSG was an extreme exception rather than the rule and last night has been ridiculously judged by that high standard by some ridiculous arseholes on social media who have to always have an opinion about absolutelyfuckineverything. I think we should try to enjoy this season whilst at games and not get too fuckin gurney faced if things fall a bit flat because we only need to look at the likes of Anfield and Old Trafford to see where things are maybe heading. I won’t be party to that soulless fuckin bulkshit3 points

Head above the parapet here, but we pagger Milan at home. Trippier has Leao scouted now and Lascelles will nut the nose off that outrageously handsome Frenchman. Either that or Wilson, Schar and Giroud will have a Zoolander vs Hansel style walk off all game instead. Dortmund we'll turn up with our vuvuzelas to drown out them annoying fucking drums and snap their centre backs early and beat them 2-0 to overturn the home match. The PSG match is nailed on to be invaded by a just stop oil fanatic since it never happened in the home match - match written off as a 0-0 draw.3 points

All a question of interpretation. It feels to me like we, on the left, care more about Palestinian people. There was a march for Palestine just one week after the Hamas massacre in Israel. There was less solidarity shown for innocent Israelis who lost family or were taken hostage. I haven’t seen many people protesting against Hamas either. I don’t think you could describe life in Gaza under Hamas as normal. I don’t know. I’ve never been there but it sounds like hell on earth. Blockaded by Israel, denied access to the international economy and subjugated by Hamas. It’s one of the most impoverished and densely populated places on earth. I’m sure people there try to get on with daily life but normal is a bit of a stretch. It sounds shit. Does that make it okay to fire rockets at Israeli civilian targets? Hamas has been doing this for decades. I guess you could make a case for it. They’re freedom fighters, according to Chris Williamson. Does that make the indiscriminate massacre of innocent Israelis ok? No I don’t think so. I don’t think everything Israel is doing is ok. The blockade of Gaza - not ok The continued illegal settlement expansion - not ok. The Israeli government argues it has no option but to keep it in place in order to contain the terrorist threat. And now containment is no longer an option. Illegally occupying parts of the Palestinian Territories - not okay. Does that make the war to remove Hamas ok? I don’t know. I do know that Israel can no longer exist alongside a terrorist group committed to wiping it off the map. I deplore the idea that thousands more innocent civilians have to die to achieve the goal. I’d like to think Gaza’s people would overthrow Hamas but I suspect most people there hate Israel even more than they hate Hamas. Hamas, in my view, has to go. It presents an existential threat to Israel, a sovereign state. I don’t know if the war can be won without massive civilian casualties. The early evidence suggests not. And if Hamas is removed I don’t know what comes next. I forlornly hope it might kickstart the peace process. But neither side are interested in a two state solution as it stands. We need new leadership on both sides.3 points

My two pence: A very tough and frustrating game. Dortmund are no mugs and just about edged it though we hit the woodwork twice and Wilson should have scored so a draw would have been a fair result. Got our work cut out now and might have to win away to qualify. Disappointing after the PSG performance promised so much. I felt there wasn’t as much snap in our press as usual and a few players were below their best - notably trippier and Bruno, who seemed to misplace more passes than usual. Though credit to Dortmund there for smothering our two best players and stopping them play. Bruno held on to the ball for too long on a few occasions when there were balls on in behind. And when we did try to play it through our passes we’re often misplaced - not helped by the weather. The flag display was great but the atmosphere after that was fairly subdued. Lots of supporters stayed behind to clap them off though which tells you that the crowd appreciated the players’ effort even if they did fall slightly short this time. Shots at 12am seemed like a good idea at the time. Hanging out my arse on the train home now after about 4 hours sleep The weather was absolutely filthy from the moment I got off the train, which didn’t help the mood.3 points
