thanks man. i have debated whether or not to post more about this on here, i know it's a polarising subject. it's all i'm really thinking about at the moment, it kept me awake last night till about 4am. i had to take the twitter app off my phone because it's such a fucking cesspit, and i know i'm in the minority here when it comes to supporting israel's right to exist and to defend itself and am not really in the mood to get into a back and forth when my family are literally cowering in bomb shelters. everyone on social media is an armchair pundit, unable to shift from their position despite the horror which is unfolding. you've got people defending hamas and tweeting "free palestine" in response to news that whole families have been slaughtered in their beds - HAVE A FUCKING DAY OFF! but it really doesn't matter if you are pro-palestine or pro-israel as far as i'm concerned (some people are surprised when i say it is possible to be both). there are innocent human beings on both sides who are being butchered. but let's be absolutely fucking clear - hamas are not freedom fighters. they're a terrorists whose charter calls for the full destruction of the state of israel. how is taking kids from their parents as hostages - kidknapping a six month child ffs - fighting for freedom???? i'll caveat that by saying i'm sure israel will commit war crimes too as it razes gaza to the ground. this is also indefensible and i won't try to defend it.8 points

Brighton is also an attractive cosmopolitan city on the South Coast, playing in a modern arena, an hour or so from London. I can imagine up and coming players being attacted there. Sunderland is a shithole Brexit voting town who play in a toxic litter-strewn shed in front of the hills have eyes. An uphill task recruiting the higher you go. I can barely think of a single player they've had who's praised the place after they've left.8 points

I thought Sarah Silverman made a good point. She said if you have more sympathy for one side than the other (talking about victims) then propaganda has worked on you. Because it’s about de-humanising people if you think one particular group deserves it more than the other.6 points

Neither side is in the right here. The world has sat back for decades and watched while Israel has taken more and more Palestinian land and seen their living conditions squeezed again and again. But absolutely no one can support the indiscriminate slaughter of innocents by Hamas. Sadly Israel are just going to deliver the same treatment to the Palestinian population. To me a lot of this comes down to the USA’s unwavering support of Israel’s actions which has in turn further emboldened them. Sadly there is no leading country on the international stage willing to call Israel out for what they have done and until there is then nothing will change.6 points

So, I know like in society in general we have a lot of dog lovers on the board, but how do we feel about bringing them into the office? Cos that's what happens here. Colleague's dog has just pissed all over the carpet near my desk and it hasn't even been cleared up, just left. It stinks and for the first time in months I'm needing my salbutamol inhaler. It shits too but they do sort of clean that up. I find it bizarre this is allowed and our office company actively encourages it. Surely you should just wfh if you have a dog? You wouldn't bring a kid in.5 points

Hamas knew what the reaction would be if they were successful so it just made me think they don’t give a shit about the fate of the average Palestinian either.5 points

Zomlot is spot on in what he says. And I agree with your other points. I think there’s probably bias in that interview but I also think that the BBC has tried its best to be impartial on this. I think aimaad makes a lot of good points too btw. To be honest I’ve refrained from getting involved in talking about it, because it’s so fucking depressing, not to mention so complex and ingrained that I can’t even think of anything remotely approaching a solution. What a tragic waste of life the last few days have been. It must be awful for you, having family members involved. I really hope they all stay safe and that this de-escalates soon.5 points

I'm creating this thread due to the lock put on the previous thread. I'm not going to put forward any views or sentiments of my own in this opening post but just want to outline that since this is obviously a very sensitive topic which affects some people on the board quite personally, especially at the moment, we should have some care in terms of emotive wording and so on. That said, it is also important that people are allowed to freely discuss the factual realities of the situation, naturally.4 points

I'd be kicking up a stink about it tbh, it sounds fairly grim. Or pissing on my line manager's carpet while shouting "see how you like it".4 points

Of course they don’t. They knew what they did was a declaration of war and how Israel would respond. They also use civilians as cannon fodder, deliberately storing weapons in civilian locations so they can point to the bodies when Israel responds with overwhelming force.4 points

They do seem to have a lot of ex-players who are happy to let it be known they have nothing but disdain for the club. I can’t think of other clubs where that’s the case. McClean absolutely hates them. Bent seemed delighted to relegate them4 points

The simple fact is that if they are any good then they won't be playing for Sunderland much longer. If they couldn't keep hold of the massive MLFs that are the two Jordans then they've no chance with these young lads.4 points

Tbf there's no real way of knowing what the gulf in quality between the two leagues is as well, since the three teams that beat them to promotion last season are doing so well in the prem now, every reason to think this Neil bloke can be the next Declan Rice.4 points

Aye, we’ve all said it before but fucking what a brass neck they have to call NUFC fans deluded. I suppose that sniffer forgets Longstaff had serious interest from Manchester United at a similar age to Dan Neil, Jack Clark, and whatever other super duper wonder kids they have. In contrast there’s been no interest in Neil, and so far Clark has interested Burnley. Keep in mind they’re both similar age to Gordon who is ripping it up in the Premier league. Longstaff has basically fought his way back into the side after it looked like Tonali might slot in there. He might not be a glamorous player but he fills an integral role in what is now a top side - if this idiot for one second actually believes Dan Neil will definitely match that he’s fucking dreaming.4 points

Aren't Hamas and Hezbollah closely linked? The latter of which has publicly supported the actions of the former in recent days? Mad that the Saudis would back the best pals of it's biggest enemy. I learn something new every day from RTG.3 points

It's the arrogance of it, too. "I think you'll find we know the history of your club better than you do, thank you very much"3 points

I find his writing style to be very pretentious at times but he often gets things spot on in terms of the angle he takes. He’s spot on about the hypocrisy and overt racism re: the Saudis for example. I’ve occasionally read his blog in the past but it’s a bit uncomfortable sometimes to say the least. He loves a deeply entrenched personal grudge as well3 points
