Imagine if someone had told you 5 years ago we could be facing a Real Madrid side with Joselu leading the line in the champions league7 points

We should put a bid in for Rice of £120m not because I think he will come but just to stop Arsenal or Man U getting him for £80m.7 points

Shearer sent a tweet about never seeing a mackem in Milan which is causing epic levels of fewm. They're wanting him banned from the BBC again. I'm in a bit of a hurry at the moment because I'm off to the mosque for Friday prayers, maybe meet some of you there. Also I'm obviously going to Saudi on holiday this year, anybody got any tips for the best places to stay? On a more serious note, I go to most home matches, never seen or heard any of the daft stuff they go on about. What has happened though, perhaps to an unepxected extent, is the football club has promoted great cultural pride in the region, the North East of England. You look at wor flags, it is all about regional identity. Nobody dressses like an arab, no references are made to Saudi other "Saudi Boys" which is ironically sung in response to away fans (still don't like it like). For me personally I feel no softening of my views on wahhabism. although I have a more nuanced view on the geopolitics, which again pre-exists the take over. Anyway, I've lost count on how "we are not their rivals now" and they don't care as their spring thread on us now approaches 9,000 posts with countless offshoot threads like the one on Shearer (itself several hundred pages).5 points

Drove near the Scrogg recently as one of my laddies was playing against Walker Central. I don’t remember it being so heavily fortified in my youth Maybe they’ve gotten word of impending attack of the Durham Light Infantry5 points

Right, Rothbury is confirmed Mag territory. Mark it down. That makes NE1, NE65 but strangely, nothing in between, ours4 points

Ignoring the logistics of this ‘quick win’ and how it’s not going to happen, who would give a shite anyway? Absolutely fucking tapped doesn’t even begin to cover it4 points

Eddies presser: “Yes, some of the players I want to bring in would be classed as Marquee signings”. * Cut to a sprouting mushroom. (Fucking gifs)4 points

I think that's harsh, he did wonders with a weaker Brighton team than De Zerbi inherited. De Zerbi has done brilliantly, don't get me wrong, but Potter deserves huge credit too. Transforming them from the pragmatic style of Hughton into a very tidy PL outfit. The Chelsea gig was a poisoned chalice; massive squad, filled with big stars, and bigger egos. Plus I've no doubt the owner wasn't shy about sharing his thoughts about team selection. Wherever Potter goes next will be the real test. If he goes to Southampton, Leeds, or maybe abroad, I think he'll repair a lot of the damage to his reputation.4 points

I don't even know how good of a coach MP is any more. At least he's got some advice from the outgoing 'manager'; I particularly like the last bit. It reads like he's been sat in the Soccer Saturday studio, watching it all unfold from afar. Instead of, y'know, being in a position to affect these changes directly. Or it being his fucking responsibility.4 points

Aye, it's all about the relegation scrap really. I do wish Chelsea were down there too - if only they'd brought Lampard in sooner.4 points

That article is the worst thing I've ever read, and I've read KCG's novella.4 points

Having a look around on twitter, and there's a photo that started it all. And it's not him. End of rumour.3 points

I don't think you're allowed to bet on any football matches, the theory being that you might have inside information or be able to influence other footballers. The only matches he bet on involving himself were for his team to win or to score so he wasn't throwing games. He did bet against us 11 times while a Newcastle player on loan elsewhere so he's obviously not completely stupid.3 points

This is why Smith setting up Leicester not to lose against us was wiser than gunning for the win.3 points

“Back to basics” I wasn’t aware there was anything more basic than Lampard’s “everyone have fun out there, guys. And remember to score a goal” approach3 points

If Pochettino finds the right formula early on from what is still a pretty talented squad, they'll be challenging for CL next year imo. Especially without Europe to worry about.2 points

One of my favourites in that thread is someone claiming Tyne and Wear was invented by a mag so they would be forced to pay for our Metro.2 points
