“I think majority of fans of all clubs will have a dream of a local made good wealthy fan take them over and deliver success. A nation/ oil takeover is not a good situation, I do feel sympathy for many long time supporters of Man City and nufc as deep down I think a lot of them hate ehat had happened to their clubs” deep down, we’re all gutted.8 points

Well that's it, in a nutshell, isn't it? When people were campaigning against Ashley, it had fuck all to do with his zero contract employees working in sweatshops (imo anyway). That was an easy excuse, nothing more. It was because he was asset stripping the club on an annual basis, and couldn't give a fucking toss about its stature or respect its heritage. Had the fat cunt acted properly with respect to the club, shown some ambition rather than purely acting as a carpet bagger, he would never have been loved (just as the current ownership isn't), but he would have been tolerated. Football fans compartmentalise their minds. All we care about is the football at the end of the day, and the community of the club itself. The match goers, the wider community like on here. Why else follow a club man? It's absolutely laughable for the mackems to take the high ground and pretenf they're different.7 points

Been said before but some lunatic will state something that's bad for us is likely to happen and the rest will convince themselves that not only is it likely, but a certainty. We wouldn't get Benitez He wouldn't stay after relegation He wouldn't get us promoted He wouldn't keep us up Bruce would take us down (to be fair this seemed more likely) There wouldn't be a takeover The Saudis wouldn't pass O&D The PL wouldn't let it happen The Government wouldn't let it happen The Saudis wouldn't spend money Howe would take us down Howe has a terrible record of transfers No Premier League club would do business with us No decent player would want to join us Bruno would flop, Burn is shite, Botman isn't ready for the PL, Isak is too lightweight We'd need to spend half a billion to get close to European football The Saudis would leave after a couple of years to buy Man Utd or Liverpool Shouldn't the giant floating head of Ray Winston be looming above them with the chilling message "When the fun stops, stop"?7 points

We all know if the mackems were offered limitless pots of cash from a noxious oligarch or nation state, they would snap their hands off. Then tie themselves in knots trying to justify why it’s okay. North Korea would be a perfect fit for them (if they weren’t foreign). There’s no moral high ground here, it’s just because it’s us. The amount of tine and effort they put into their bullshit is hilarious. They’re like deranged monkeys at the zoo flinging poo at the visitors, there’s no logic to it. The only thing they’re outraged about is our success.6 points

MInd, that's how I felt about the league cup this year. Not arsed mate. It's been ruined for me.6 points

This conversation with Man City fans definitely took place: The Blues fans were already jaded by success 9 years ago. With their (at that time) 1 PL title and 1 (recent) FA Cup win.6 points

Funny how they wanted to go up via the playoffs when that was a realistic possibility. However, now that it isn’t, they’re happy not to go up. Also happy not to be bought by the likes of the Saudis (even though it’s never been in the cards and they don’t have any say in it). Equally odd they were delighted when the Saudis pulled out of the deal to buy us, given it’s such a bad thing to happen to a club. And they seem to be against the Man City ownership theses days too. Like the Poznan celebration never happened. Funny how they aren’t arsed about success but want the rich clubs to join a European super league so they’ve got more chance of winning things. The mental gymnastics on there, man.6 points

Even going back to the "good old days" of majority working class fans, the clubs were owned by the rich - the solicitors and monopoly shop owners like our lot or the old money bankers who owned Arsenal and so on. There's nowt wrong with the tribal /community/sense of belonging aspect of football clubs but the actual owners have never been a factor in that imo.5 points

So how did it remain "their club" when a load of Irishmen bought it and then sold it to an American billionaire who then sold it to two southern twats who then sold most of it to a trust fund playboy?5 points

That thread is a treasure trove I’m honestly at a point now where’s I don’t think I want us to get promoted. We won’t ever break into the top 6 unless there are systemic changes in the football league system, and so I’m enjoying being one of the bigger fish in the pond that is the championship this season where we don’t desperately need to win and losing doesn’t ruin my weekend5 points

I’ve said before, their “owner” Louis-Dreyfus, is rich because his family company have held back grain supplies from countries that are desperate for it, in order to artificially raise the price of that grain. He might not be cutting their heads off, but his wealth is built by causing more death than our erstwhile owners.4 points

If you go back far enough (but not all that far) you had the maximum wage, with players tied to clubs even once their contract had expired. And the owners raking it in, at the big clubs anyway. There’s a lot wrong with modem football but at least the actual talent sees a canny bit of the profit3 points

They know that’s not what it’s like at all anyway right? I don’t look at every win and see an asterisk about it because the ultimate owners of NUFC are horrible people via a wealth fund. If you applied that type of thinking to every day life you’d be absolutely fucking miserable. The “we have our club back” stuff obviously is because we have an ownership whose goals for the club align with the fan base now, they want success isn’t that the fucking point of football? Of course it’s a hypocritical view since at the base it’s just us wanting out club to be successful, but who doesn’t? Why watch shit football that has no eventual pay off, you do it as a fan but you’d rather watch successful football with amazingly talented players no? As others point out basically no fan base in this country has their club they’re all owned by fucking cunts, are our cunts the worst? Yes, but that asterisk applies to all of them to varying degrees. For example people like Boehly and FSG that own Chelsea and Liverpool, they buy up company’s gut them and sell them on, it ruins peoples lives, as bad as murder, torture, or whatever else SA does? Categorically no of course not but from a moralistic standpoint they’re still horrible and that’s where the money is coming from, it’s hard to draw this line in the sand now when we’ve descended from those hedge fund type owners, to oligarchs, to now nation states, this was the natural progression and football in its greed never tried to stop it. So why not us? If it wasn’t NUFC it would be another club, if you have a strong moral compass and decide you can’t stomach the link with the club so stop following it I respect that, but the mackems are fucking kidding themselves if that’s their entire fan base as well as the fact many still accept these type of hypocritical choices in many other areas of their lives (from the clothes they wear, to their phones, TVs, media they consume etc etc). In short they’re pathetic tbh. Their opinions are absurd and they’re incapable of bridging any sort of gray area because they’re blinded by obsession and hatred of NUFC to a weird fucking level. It’s hilarious watching them tie themselves in knots mind, they can enjoy watching the champagne football they’re getting which has taken them to mid table in the championship, I’ll carry on watching top level internationals go on to play European competitions cheers.3 points

When we went up to Glasgow for that pre-season thing in 95 I remember asking a Rangers fan if it was boring to win everything and his reply was to ask if we'd get bored if it was us - don't be fucking stupid being the obvious reply.3 points

the time's rapidly approaching to take me 6 year old grandson to his first match. has to happen soon as his step-grandad on the other side is attempting to push him towards tottenham, the cunt. anyway, provided UM doesn't buy them all I'm gonna attempt to get two together for the southampton game. means he won't be too late home for school the next day and the reduced time for drinking means he won't see his grandad pissed! the percy no longer lets kids in so can anybody recommend a pub which does?3 points

I know but you would struggle to buy a studio flat in Islington with that wedge, let alone a butler like Sunak has. It's canny impressive he's not earning shitloads with a second job, although I guess that avenue will more than open up after his stint at PM if he chooses like.3 points
