Was listening to the Athletic weekend preview podcast earlier and they were talking about the battle for 4th. Consensus was it'll probs be Man City, Arsenal, Spurs top three, and that it's a straight fight between Newcastle, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man United for 4th. Soneone asked what price we are for top 4 (5/2) and said something along the lines of "If Newcastle make top 4 this year, you'd have to think that's that. With the sort of player they'd be able to attract it'll be very difficult to shift them out of it." Someone responded that we'd be single figures odds for the Premier League before long. (if we break into the CL this season) Sounded deliciously mental.4 points

aye. off the top of me head, working your way down and zig zagging across the country.... ayresome park, elland road, maine road (after the moss side riots) old trafford (although I do remember absolutely scattering the cunts who waited for us outside after keeping us prisoner for 3/4 of an hour after the 0-5), the back streets of walton round goodison park, victoria ground at stoke, st andrews and the welcoming committee at new street station, stamford bridge, the walk down seven sisters road to white hart lane, cold blow lane after the 4-0 defeat oh and I still break out in a cold sweat thinking about the 'friendly' at easter road in edinburgh! roker park was like a family day out at softlands, despite how according to mackem folklore they're all as hard as fuck!3 points

it looks like a two horse race for the title. Everything else is up for grabs. Spurs have been unimpressive despite their lofty league position. They will do well to finish too 4 again from what I’ve seen. Chelsea are rebuilding, Liverpool are having an off year. The WC and European competitions will disrupt the traditional big six while our lot are in a training camp jolly in Saudi. Then the other clubs who we were supposed to be competing with to be the best of the rest (West Ham, Villa, Leicester) are all having a mare. Before the season started, I’d have taken top 8. Now, I’d be disappointed if we don’t finish in the top 6. Top 4 is a real possibility. We’re a third of the way through the season and I’ve seen nothing from any team to be afraid of, besides Man City and their freak CF.3 points

I'm not saying they have to forgive, goalpost shifter, I'm saying they have to accept that these people are human and stop running away from why these things happen because it's "easier" to just rage and hate and see them as less than human. That attitude is what causes this in the first place frankly. Only the left actually tries to do anything meaningful in tackling crime because only the left tries to understand it. And I say left generously here, what I mean is the centre, the left, and really anyone with any actual common sense. Notably excludes significant swathes of the right who prefer to respond emotionally and assume criminals are "evil" and "animals", words which remove any responsibility from society for doing anything to prevent it. Further case in point - domestic violence. Have mentioned this before but nonetheless - I worked with a counselling charity to help them with their sustainability, and the CEO told me that in the fight against domestic violence, they'd save more women if money was being spent on helping the men who were violent. Unfortunately, she went on, there is no political will to do so because society can't stomach the idea of helping such people. The consequence of that backwards social attitude, is more women suffering domestic violence. This isn't the thread for this anyway and I apologise to everyone for de-railing it, but my original point is that Putin conscripting criminals to go and die in Ukraine outrages me no less than any of the others he's forcing to go and die for his right wing, authoritarian, populist bullshit. Those people are human and he's treating them as playthings in the same way he's treating everyone else.3 points

I always refer people to Brendan Cox on this. His wife (Jo Cox, MP) was murdered by a right wing terrorist - the right itself in this instance would have to throw their hands up and say "well, he was just evil, nothing anyone could have done". Cox on the other hand publicly forgave the man and called for greater understanding into the root causes of social division. He held true to his principles because he understood that the man who killed his wife had been turned into a vehicle for murder by right wing propaganda focused on hate. To call that man an animal and write him off is to take our eye off the real reason for her death. The politics and media of the right wing - and we have to stand in defiance of their hatred and insecurity day in and day out to prevent society collapsing around us.3 points

This is so true it bears repeating. It's part of how Leicester won the league; teams and opposing players don't always do their homework and/or pre-existing attitudes dictate how teams and players prepare and play. In our case their expectation is that the opposing team has been on a lucky run that has to come to an end. The result is a definite lag when any team has a noteable adjustment either up or down that can have a significant influence on the results. We're enjoying a little benefit from that now.3 points

Will be interesting to see the way Howe and the squad navigate the inevitable dip in form that will come. They're hitting the nail on the head with just about everything right now but expectations have already started to increase and things can go awry very quickly in football. The new regime has shown they know what they're doing with the transfer business and Howe has exceeded all expectations on the coaching front. The next big test is going to be retaining this intensity when things are not quite going are way. That's when the 'big 4' will really start pissing themselves.3 points

The time wasting stuff is hilarious tbh, we did it away to Liverpool once we started to tire the same way all others do - we also had it done to us by Villa among others. It’s similar to how Manchester United fans on Twitter keep saying we park the bus which is why our defence is doing so well, despite us creating more and scoring more than pretty much every team in the league . People don’t watch tbh they just regurgitate what they’ve heard, which is why I honestly think we’ve flown under the radar to the level we had and it’s still spoken about like we’re in a purple patch.3 points

They’re losing at home to Cardiff, I guess that whole back to back promotion shite they were going on about has fallen flat, is it time for them to hound another manager out because of the fan bases delusion?2 points
