Look, I love attention, I think my position on that is clear. But why, in the world, am I getting drawn into a conversation about historical politics by the likes of you? If I had any say in the running of this country three things would happen. 1) we'd invest a fortune to close the tax loopholes, 2) we'd invest in the arts and 3) xG would be taught from primary school.6 points

Yeh I mean I wouldn't mind too much if all the other clubs that cheated got their trophies/revenue taken away* and there was a genuinely level playing field but it's not going to happen. *apart from the 2014 league cup which Man City won fairly.5 points

Arteta. I find it useful to read the whole post before replying, why not give it a go. It's a skill, but a learnable skill.5 points

The IFS reckons the government will need to save £60bn a year in order to balance the books. The only way to do that is massive cuts at a time when we’re struggling with over a decade of massive cuts. I think this is based on an unrealistic target of 2.5% economic growth. This is after Kwarteng’s completely unnecessary £41bn per year package of tax cuts and the energy plan that is going to cost between £50bn to £75bn a year funded by borrowing rather than windfall taxes. The tax cuts which of course are fuelling inflation and causing huge interest rate rises. So make no mistake, the cuts that are about to come and financial misery for many are absolutely a political choice rather than a financial necessity.5 points

Dangerous in different ways: Johnson’s policy making wasn’t anywhere near as dangerous. The problem was how mendacious he was - he pretty much normalised deceit in frontline politics. Ministers no longer need to resign for things that would previously end careers. He was as damaging to our democracy as Trump was in the US. The problem with this lot is the damage they’re doing to the economy4 points

Go back to Gordon Brown calling a bigot a bigot. Possibly enough to be the difference between a Labour/Liberal coalition instead of the Tories being the biggest party4 points

His stock had risen, so he took a championship job? Also how was it “too soon”, if he had taken time off would he have used it like Howe used his time off and went around to see how managers who excel at what he’s weak at structure things? Or would he have went on the piss in Benidorm? What a fucking sniffer Edwards is.4 points

Real won't be able to afford him by the end of next season unless they get their super league the fucking paupers. TBH though they are one of those pinnacle clubs that can realistically sign star players from any other club in the world. If they seriously pursue him, he'll go.4 points

I mean they're literally in the coalition of nations at war in Yemen & have planned to meet with Putin this week. In addition to that the brother of the owner drove a bloke out to the desert, chopped him up and ran him over. Different 🤠3 points

I seriously hope they do mutate by the following election though, neoliberal centre isnt going to fix everything thats been bust. This country has been pushed to US ideology in the general population for almost a decade - there's so much division, and I dare say hate out there now. Everyone's judging everyone else (me included) by default like we've been conditioned to. To use a corny US term, its winning peoples "Hearts and minds" back to we are all one country, in it together - that's going to be so difficult cos the Tories were fucking excellent at making a mockery of "we are all in this together" by deliberately gaslighting using the term during May's / Camerons time. I never noticed this Tory trait until Boris came in, as he was so shit at it that everything was obvious - so 1 thing to thank him for. I really hope there's a long game, and that we can bring back some solidarity and team spirit to the country to reunite us, and then start collectively working on restoring public services. Most major cities, Newcastle in particular, absolutely STINK of piss on a weekend evening - there's not a single public toilet in the entire city centre anymore. We are giving away money in tax cuts to the tune of tens of billions, when it costs less than 0.7bn a year to fund our libraries, after a 60% cut over 10 years. I could go on...3 points

Thing on the Athletic about him. He didn't know you could make 5 subs in the Championship. And in the part about recruitment being based on who the staff already knew rather than anything data driven, there's a line about Erik Pieters He's pulled his recruitment straight from the Tory playbook.3 points

Fuck did I do? Multiversal shenanigans are not my wheelhouse, that was Hugh Everett or Dr Strange. I'm more your street level hero. Think Daredevil, The Punisher, or the man who puts your bins back on your drive out of the way of other pedestrians.3 points

It’s insane that this was did for Brown, when you look at what’s gone in on the last few encumbent’s tenures. Especially since, as you rightly point out, he was being 100% honest.3 points

Honestly can't predict this one. We're becoming a team who play on the ball more, who press high and don't just hoof it Bruceball style. Man Utd are morphing into a team who're happy enough without the ball and will look to hit opposition on the break. They've some excellent players, Antony and Martial are quick and dangerous on the break and Casemiro is, for all his faults, improving their defending. I'd usually expect a loss to Man Utd, nowadays at St James' I'd fancy a win against anyone, so I'll split the difference and go 1-1.3 points

They may try to unsettle him and get him on the cheap but they're not offering the market value for a player who isn't necessarily a galactico.3 points

He'll be his generations Steve Bruce. Nailed on. His mates in the media will get him jobs for decades. I'm hoping for one purple patch and some good timing which gets him the Liverpool job in the services of everyone's amusement before it's over.3 points

Stock had risen as the worst Premier League manager in history. Anyone who watched us would know that staying up had nothing to do with Bruce, as he marched us backwards in pretty much every conceivable metric during his time here. Ashley would have sacked him for sure if it wasn't going to cost him.3 points

The thing with Bruce is that, even a casual look at his performance metrics over the past 3 jobs would show someone whose teams don't win, use or shoot the ball well. But if you don't go off stats and you're more likely just to go off vibes, a brief glance through articles from his time at clubs would reveal a man who blames players, fans, and lack of transfers. Someone who takes a LOT of time off. How any owner could look at either of those stacks of evidence and not immediately bin his application, is a mystery.2 points
