  1. We should erect Brown Plaques, “ Here, whilst in The Queue 2022, Doris Mayfield, of Doncaster, shit herself.” ” On this spot, whilst Queuing, Mary McCormack of Chester had to have a sit down.” ” On 17th Sep 2022, Queue member Arthur Taylor of Bacup gave up after only 13 hours, the massive Jessie “

  2. Had a drive over to near Keswick today and parked at the forestry commission place at Dodd Wood. From there I did Dodd > Carl Side > Long Side > Ullock Pike. Then stopped off on the way back and did High Rigg. Fucking lovely. I was going to go tomorrow but I thought the fells might be too sad

  3. I'm finding some of the negativity here surprising tbh. Very early days this season, still inbeaten at SJP, still in the cup, our key attacking players out for recent games. Manager who knows what he is doing tbh. Less than a year since the takeover when we looked relegation certainties. I'm happy enough.

  4. I think sides outside the top 6/7 now know just to give us possession and we’re not good enough to break them down. The answer could be another 150 mill in January. But that puts us in danger of wandering into Everton territory/falling foul of FFP. Am not criticising Howe or the recruitment we’ve done thus far. It does show how shallow the squad is, it will take time to put right, but I also think the figures are daunting and there’s no guarantee of success. We’re a far better project than Everton, all major positions behind the scenes are filled with what on paper look like top quality professionals unlike their set up where was at one point 3 different camps were buying players. If we are stuck in mid table this season it wouldn’t really bother me but the fuckin abuse being dished out by morons on social media is fuckin nauseating and whether we like it or not they are the public face of our support. No nuance or balance, just WAAAAHHH WUH SHITE MAN SACK HOWE HES SHITE…it really fuckin pisses me off…

  5. I still think we can finish top 8 btw. We were robbed against Palace and we were a couple of shots off the post from a win yesterday. We're 3 points off 6th even with all the disappointment from the last couple of games.

  8. Having slept on it, I’m less frustrated than I was yesterday after the match. Breaking down a stubborn side which has turned up to defend their own box and look to counter was never going to be easy. We don’t yet have the quality in reserve to break down teams like this if we’re missing just a couple of our our better first team players. Have to put it all in perspective though. We’ve come a long way in a short space of time. It’s been a disappointing start to the season because our performances have generally been good and it feels like we should be there sitting on 12-13 points. But remember where we were this time last season. The progression is plain to see. But until we sign another 3-4 quality first team players, Howe needs to develop a different style of playing. We don’t have the quality in reserve to stick with the same system and make like for like subs when we’re chasing a goal. I expect there will be lots of other teams which turn up to SJP this season after this and play in a similar style with a compact, narrow defence and invite us to break them down.

  9. Yep. Its not so much that Fraser and Almiron were so poor yesterday, it's that they played in the manner expected of them. When we're that weak on the wings (adding in that Targett appears limited in attack) then opposition sides can flood the middle and channels and force us to go around them. So not only are we struggling for service from the wing, we're being forced into playing a game where we are dependant on our wing play to provide chances. It's a double-edged sword. This is the importance of ASM and how he stretches the pitch in both the vertical and lateral sense and provides more space in the channels for others to exploit. As said yesterday, Howe should be expecting these problems at this point as we've been without ASM for weeks now and it's been clear that we're being offered the wide spaces by our opponents. We needed to mix it up yesterday and we failed to do so. Still only lost once to a 9th minute stoppage time winner to thr league second best team at their ground. Things are great but there's a bit of pain there in that it could be even better. Onward and upward.

  10. Aye, as well as bringing new players in, it’s a big job to get rid of the dross. I’d be delighted with a top 10 finish this season, and promising progress in the cups. As Gemmill mentioned, increased commercial income will help, and considering they’re starting from zero it’ll make a big difference. Of course, steady and sensible progress won’t keep the gobshite’s happy, but fuck ‘em.

  12. It’s frustrating to drop points in home games to palace and Bournemouth where we’ve had most of the ball but I think there’s a general appreciation that we’re a work in progress. It won’t happen overnight. The frustration is good though because it shows how far we’ve come and that we care again. It’s good that dropped points hurt - that’s what is supposed to happen when your club is aspirational. You just have to compare this match thread to one of the sparsely populated threads from this time last season when another defeat was generally met with a shrug of the shoulders, piss taking and a touch of bed wetting.

  14. The performances are there, we just don't seem to be getting the results. Not sure what the possession percentage was at the end but it was 68% at half time. We would have had probably less than 50% under Bruce and got sucker punched. Teams are coming to St James's now with different game plans and thats a sign we are a different Beast now.

  15. Definitely made the correct decision not to watch this live. As others have said Howe's plan A is decent but it needs better players to for it to always be successful. Why keep slinging in crosses to a CF that isn't reknown for being a header of the ball, all the while we have a battering ram sat on the bench? Why constantly slow the attack down when our CF has the pace and ability to put defenders on their arse? Wood got a lot of shite off fans but we can see Isak is just as isolated because the service isn't there. Maybe wor Eddie needs to think about dumping the inverted wingers for a game or two in the hope that players on on their preferred foot can provide better attacking balls (not just crosses but slide rule passes) - imagine what we'd be like with an in his prime Nobby Solano on the right side?

  18. Willock is a million miles from his loan spell form. Relying on him, Almiron and Fraser to create chances was always going to be asking for trouble. Murphy and Wood off the bench shows we still have a thin squad if we want to be in the top half of the table. A right winger and ACM are the next 2 positions that need upgrading

  19. I love winding thr kids up. Just told them that we couldn't get to London in time so we have to do a simulated queue instead. We have to stand outside in the garden, occasionally walking a few yards in a circle, for 24 hours. Then tomorrow we can watch the BBC coffin streaming channel and cry a bit for 3 minutes, before moving on and getting warmed up My youngest one (always been exceptionally gullible) started crying at this prospect. My eldest just gave me that look which all but says "zip it, dickhead". Hey, what else are Dad's for?

  20. Pretty depressing read. It's estimated iby 2024 the average UK family will be less well off than the average Slovenian family. I never regarded Slovenia as a well off place tbh. By 2030, the same stat will be true for Poland apparently. Perhaps in the 2030s there will be a Polish version of Auf Wierdesehen Pet, if any British workers can secure work visas there .....

  23. I hope the owners remain patient. This could be a transitional season where we end up in a similar position around 9-11th. We have to give Howe time. The squad is still a massive work in progress. But if we continue to go along at a point a game those noises in the media will get louder

  25. sombre in the title, sombre drive home last night, wasn't in the mood to catch up with the thread till this morning. think it's all been said already with regard to the match, just so very disappointing really, no one had a good game, one or two aren't particularly capable of it. on the plus side.... I now know that if I leave the percy arms at exactly 14.47 I'll arrive at the top of access 15 in the leazes jprecisely as the ball in being kicked for the start of the match. avoided all the majestic queenie and king stuff.

  28. Caught a bit of the news (or the ‘queues’ as it should now be called). Someone with a stick / limp pretending to be stoic but actually complaining about the wait to get into the shorter ‘accessible’ queue despite not realising they’re part of the problem, ie the shear volume of people. Not to mention it’s their choice. You’re not evading Russian tanks on foot, you chose to go there, you dozy fucking bint

  33. 100% on the sting of Shelvey's absence. It's not so much the quality of Shelvey compared to other creative PL midfielder (not that he lacks quality) but it's even more that those attributes are completely lacking in the rest of our squad. Shelvey is the type of player we lack the most. He's lower-mid table quality but we don't even have another option. Willock is a runner. Joelinton the destroyer. Bruno likes to sit in and orchestrate things forward but also laterally with neat passes. Longstaff is a pale shadow of Bruno. That's it. Shelvey has the ability and courage to sink a through ball that someone like Isak would thrive on and there's no one else besides perhaps Bruno who could play that role. But the problem with Bruno stepping into that slot is that one of Joelinton or Willock would probably need to make way for Longstaff to then fill in for Bruno's absence further back. Not the worst solution but it means playing Bruno slightly outside of his best role and relying on Longstaff to make the team tick and fuck me that would make me nervous too. I think by the end of January we'll see the long term replacement in that position and we'll really kick on with everyone fit. Hopefully in the meantime we can get Shelvey back and get a few good months from him. It doesn't seem that Howe is willing to tinker much so that's the main hope that we get players back. Most of the time I would back Howe to get Plan A to work. But sometimes there are special circumstances like against the likes of Bournemouth at home. It's not all doom and gloom. Howe has the qualities of a top top manager, I believe. He works hard. He's smart. Honest too. And he wants to win. Sounds daft but I think a lot of managers just float along. Howes not like that. Mainly, I'm proud that he's our manager so he gets a pass on what I perceive as the odd mistake.

  34. Can see Arsenal or someone swooping in if that's the case. Sorry just not in a positive mood right now Watching Almiron, Willock and co is punishing way to start the weekend. Need patience here I guess. Get Wilson and ASM fit, prod onto January. Good thing there is a World Cup along the way.

  35. Apart from the obvious duo of Wilson and ASM we miss Shelvey. He’s not the answer long term or good enough against the top sides but him being out just pushes the dross one step closer to the starting XI

  37. We're never going to be a consistently good side until we have better than Championship quality on the bench. Especially so when we have a couple of injuries to our best players. Even if we replace Almiron we'll still need better than him coming off the bench. It's going to be a pretty slow process unfortunately.

  38. We have half a dozen championship standard players, at best. Failed to upgrade them. Have no one else to blame. We'll be a different team with Maxi and Wilson back yet we know we cant always count on them be it due to fitness or form in Maxi's case. Work in progress etc etc. But still a very frustrating day, as poor a performance as we've had under Howe.

  39. Very poor performance. A lot of the players I always said weren’t good enough that performed well last season when teams were open against us last season are massively struggling now teams are sitting deeper against us. Almiron and Willock break down all of our attacks tbh. Another shit game by Targett as well.

  40. We have one the worlds most promising strikers and we've created nothing for him. He needs half a chance. Instead he's been submitted to some of the most obscure cock-and-ball torture by our unimaginative midfield for 90 minutes.

  44. Metro Radio has this monumentally annoying thick cunt doing their daytime show (it’s on at work) and he was interviewing some toucher who once saw the queen for 6 seconds, 47 years ago. I can’t remember what the toucher said but the thick cunt was going “it must have been emotional for you when she died. I’ve been an emotional wreck all week!” And I would love it if these people could articulate why. Explain to me why. Go through your thought process and explain to me. You can’t. Because you’re a dopey cunt with the mental capacity of a shot glass who is pretending to be sad because apparently, you’re supposed to. I’d love to headbutt him.
