That dodgy TV subscription some of us got automatically goes on when you put the TV on and she doesn't know what to do and when I've tried to show her she's deliberately been obstinate about not understanding it. So I've had Italian football on all weekend and there's been no BBC royal rimming on my screen for two days. She should've just listened to me when I tried to show her what to do pre-death.3 points

I'd give you a Gemmilltastic double like to you if I could. Wish to fuck I could get an Irish passport and I need a new blue/black one now. I'll lose the EU reference and the reference to the queen, but have old jug ears on it instead ffs. My brother was doing the GNR today and he said there was virtually no references to the queen passing. Hardly any black arm bands etc. It feels like the BBC is actively involved in gaslighting us. There has been nothing on BBC1 except this for FOUR days now. There is no way on Earth that can be considered proportionate, especially with the events unfolding in Ukraine.3 points

I've mentioned it before, sometimes half seriously and usually in regards to brexit, but, this is probably the most tempted I've been to get an Irish passport, not for any European gain but just so I can mentally distance myself from the vomit inducing and almost sinister way this country is going, the BBC patently knew the queen was dead and couldn't call Charles king quick enough. To say it's been overkill is probably understating it. Their intent is to give the idea that the vast majority of this country are grieving and are 100% solidly behind the idea of a new king and it's so obvious. This is the true establishment in action and it stinks.3 points

Why's she going via Aberdeen? If she's doing a tour of Scotland, I think she should also visit the Eastend of Glasgow.3 points

Not saying Pearson was wrong in this at all, but it always amuses me when people around the age of 20 offer to be a shoulder to cry on - as if they've got any idea of the horror of the real world, or how to navigate it I'm sure Mick is certain to take him up on the offer of advice and a chat, so that all 6 months of Adam's life experience as an adult can be leveraged against the issue.3 points

People talk about this being a war of attrition but they haven't seen you cunts get into it about NATO or neoliberalism.3 points

The West said they'd need to submit to an application with the same scrutiny and checks that other countries have to go through, including a functional democratic mechanism. Russia walked away from this because it didn't want to "join the back of the queue like just another small country". The reality I suspect is that they weren't prepared to go through the reform. I am very suspicious of information blaming NATO for all of this given how well Putin has poisoned information within the Western world in general. We know he's hit the right on that front, it is not inconceivable to me whatsoever that he went for the left as well. The Kremlin released a statement literally detailing why they did this - it was to restore the greater Russian empire, a gift that Putin is giving to future generations of Russia. Finally solving the Ukrainian question. When speaking to Western outlets, he talks about the need to push back against NATO - IMO this is because he knows this view will get more sympathy than "I'm empire building". But if that view was accurate, why has Russia not responded to the overtones from Finland and Sweden to join NATO? Why has Russia brought NATO right to its door, justifying every step it has taken, in order to "purge" its presence from Ukraine. If NATO is the reason he's done this, then after years of being a fucking mastermind he's shown himself to be an absolute moron. If it's empire building, then I would suggest that after years of being an egotistical fascist, he has... continued to be an egotistical fascist. The consistency of the latter position is what I think the real justification is.3 points

‘Prisoners of Geography’ is a good (and fairly accessible) read. It doesn’t just focus on Russia but the chapter on Russia is quite interesting. While NATO’s expansion into Eastern Europe and The Baltic States doesn’t justify Russia’s invasion in to Ukraine, it does explain why Putin feels increasingly threatened. While, Putin is quite clearly in the wrong, it is not as black and white as the Western media makes out.3 points

Theres probably an element of truth in some of that. Putin definitely doesn’t want bordering countries joining NATO and in recent times he has seen former Soviet states leaning more towards the West and moving away from the Russian sphere of influence. Ideally he wants a group of surrounding countries subservient to Russia and Ukraine weren’t that. Add in the fact he views the break up of the USSR as a National shame there’s definitely an ideological angle to his invasion. From an economic POV the US aren’t big fans of the EU as they view it as a protectionist organisation but from a military perspective they need a strong, united Europe to keep Russia at bay which was evidenced in Putin’s meddling in the Brexit referendum.3 points

From what I can understand, the deadline to register your squad for the nearest game is the deciding factor when it comes to signing free players. So, the game getting postponed has meant that there’s less urgency to get him registered because there’s another deadline before Bournemouth where it can all be sorted2 points

I don’t doubt that, but what’s he going to fight back with? Any troops who aren’t already in Ukraine will know that their mates are taking an absolute shoeing, they’ll mostly be stationed on border patrols and other permanent military bases. The invasion force was apparently mostly new conscripts, he’ll have a job on his hands getting enough new cannon fodder for any kind of retaliatory force, and that’s just the bodies needed- he’s clearly not got anywhere near the hardware everyone thought he had, and what he does have is old and fucked. It’s not looking great for Wor Vlad, and it doesn’t look like he ever thought he’d be in this position. I read something a while back about how he’s been surrounded by yes men for years, who are afraid to tell him the truth or advise against his proposals, so this will be an almighty, unexpected kick in the balls. You love to see it.2 points
