@Renton - I’m late in reading about your awful situation but a few things stand out for me. Firstly, I’m really proud of you and I know the others on here feel the same. Even in the midst of such a crisis you had the insight to know you had to ask for help and the courage to reach out for it by calling 999. There are many others that wouldn’t do that and haven’t. Secondly, amidst that crisis you were still considering how your family and friends would react to your situation and you were fearful of their reaction. The fact that they were even a consideration shows that you care so much about being the man they want you to be, and that you want to be yourself. This will be what gets you through this. After everything you’ve been through in the last few years it breaks my heart that you found yourself in such a dark place but my god, I know you’ve got what it takes to get through it. Much love and admiration to you x10 points

think that nail was hammered well truly home about a fortnight ago when we upped our bid to just above knee level of his weaker leg.5 points

It's been Mandy and the husband running the show up until very recently. Ashworth joined after the transfer window opened and Eales only started the job yesterday so it has very much been a case of the owners calling the shots. Your point about overspending is valid and it's obvious that the club have no intention of blowing their FFP headroom during this window but ultimately we need new players to help keep the momentum going on the pitch. There's no point in having an extra £10m to spend next season if we're still lower mid-table and unable to convince players that we're a serious candidate for European football.5 points

when did pointing out the need for attacking upgrades or the hope to see them come in constitute being a fickle idiot rather than stating the bleeding obvious?4 points

It's definitely frustrating that we've now got money and a will to spend it and we can't seem to get people through the door. I do think this is just something we need to go through though to establish a reputation as a club that won't be fucked with on player valuation. The fact we didn't budge on Botman in January will have been a factor in us getting him early in the summer window - his club knew at that point that taking the piss wasn't an option because we were prepared to look elsewhere. If we end up with loan signings this window in order to try and force a similar situation with Maddison or another player in Jan/next summer, then so be it.3 points

Depth is a big problem for us. Our success in the second half of last season was partly based on intensity. We can't expect our starting XI to play with that intensity over a 38+ game season. We will have injuries and we will need players who need a rest. Right now I don't have a huge amount of confidence in many on our bench being able to seamlessly fit in when we are forced to make multiple changes to the lineup.3 points

I'm still happily trusting the process. The only thing that I think any of these rumours prove, and let's be honest it's all just gossip at this stage, is that we have a long term strategy and we are not going to be fucked around Judging by the incoming transfers so far its a strategy I'm more than ok with3 points

Yeah but the idea is that you meet somewhere in the middle. Our valuations look to be way below what other clubs are looking. It isn't a bad precedent to set, showing that we won't be put over a barrel, but eventually you have to start actually signing some players.3 points

I was talking about something similar with a Man Utd mate. The teams that you'd expect us to be competing with (on paper) for final position have been dropping winnable points. Man Utd, Villa, West Ham, Wolves, and less so with Leicester, Everton. Instead of beating Bournemouth or Fulham at home to get 3pts, they're going to have to identify teams where they wouldn't normally expect to pick up a win. Away to a midtable rival, home or away to an elite side. We've beaten a expected relegation outfit and drawn away at a midtable rival. Alls well. If we lose against Man City, I don't really care. More bothered about the Wolves game on the 28th. A draw or better there is a good result and keeps us ticking along quite nicely. If we're after c55pts and you disregard H/A against Liverpool and Man City, that leaves 34 games. Arsenal Chelsea and Spurs Away, 29 games. You essentially need 2pts a game from the remaining fixtures.3 points

Everybody loves them, that's why every opposition fan sings "we saw you crying on Netflix". It's not mockery, it's support. It's to let them know that they're there for them if they need to talk.2 points

And of those 21 games played Wilson played only four. Yet we scored 27, a modest amount for sure, but only one less that the mighty man yoo, the same as the highly regarded Brighton, more than a healthy Wolves, West Ham and Palace.2 points

I think mid-table is achievable. But like True Faith have said and what others have said on here, including myself. The depth of our squad is wank. Shelvey IMO is a big loss. We lose Joe and we have Ciggy step in. We lose Wilson, Wood,. It's scary if we loose multiple to long term injuries. However the depth issue isn't going to be addressed over this window or Jan. Thanks to the cockney cunt, that's going to have to be addressed over multiple windows. What we need to address at the moment is the lack of chances created and lack of an option off the bench from Wilson.2 points

Other than setting the overall budget I would doubt the owners are involved and it's Ashworth/Eales running the show tbh and I do trust they know what they are doing. All well and good spending £40 Mill on a player you think is worth £30 Mill now, but that extra £10 mill comes out of a future pot due to constraints of FFP, if you know that commercial revenues are going to take off (they should) that £10 mill spent today could be the difference between going for/getting a £50/£60 mill player later as your budget increases/FFP becomes easier.2 points

Or it's: that's our valuation, take it or leave it, they may tinker with the structure, more up front less as add-ons etc. perhaps that's what they are setting up their position to be, NUFC will offer what they are prepared to pay "take it or leave it".2 points

The problem seems to be that our valuations don't match those from any of the selling clubs and that's not going to improve any closer to the end of the window.2 points

As an average over the past 30 PL seasons, that'd get you 10th. 54 would get you 8th. Since January 2022, we've hit 2PpG. If we can maintain between 1.7 and 2PpG, that'd give us 63-76pts.2 points

it’s been absolutely bloody brilliant. I don’t understand how some dicks on Twitter are losing it. Genuinely can’t remember the last time a summer transfer window was this interesting2 points
