Belieiving the NHS should be free fro everyone is consistent with people being selfish, because its in their self interest. You only have to look at the US to realise in a privatised system only the super rich benefit, far beyond the top 15 percentile. And even then a lot of that 85% will resent "foreigners" using it, or people will drug, alcohol, obesity, or tobacco issues. I think all of us are motivated for selfish reasons. I want a fairer society because I think that will be a better place for ME and my family to live in. That's worth more to me than keeping my tax money. I don't want to step over the homeless on the way to my local Coop, I don't want the hell of antisocial behaviour on the metro bought on by nihilism as a consequence of hopelessness and lack or education, I don't want myself to decide which charity to donate to. I want the government to do it, and I'm willing to pay for it. Not this government though, the fucking cunts.5 points

Not disputing any of the above but I do want to point out that he can work to shed light on all of that and still be a Kremlin asset. He has consistently resisted publishing Kremlin focused information, criticised the Panama Papers publication as focusing too much on Russia, and of course helped other Russian asset Donald Trump secure victory over Clinton. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/04/22/mueller-report-confirms-it-assange-is-not-whistleblower-or-journalist/ Acknowledging all of this as relevant information in judging his motives does not mean our governments have won and control our minds, it simply means that the world is full of cunts. It also doesn't mean that what he revealed wasn't important or necessary. It does perhaps suggest that his motives were not "pure".4 points

michael martin using half his truefaith editorial to promote the worthless n.u.s.t., the bit about their meeting with richard masters made me want to vomit. and how the fuck after 6 months since the winding up of the 1892 pledge have they still not distributed £200k to charity? https://true-faith.co.uk/thru-black-white-eyes-forward-the-people-20-jun-2022/3 points

The 'champions bit' was done in Fenwick's and had no association to the club at all. They stuck a woman on a counter in the haberdashery section with a sewing machine and charged something like £3-4 per shirt. I had the blue Asics one done there.3 points

Well, if your past is horrendous and you don’t want to be stay the world’s über-cunts there is liitle room but to be critical about our history. Having said this it probably isn’t straight forward. A lot of it is down to the first generation after WW2 in the 1960s getting influenced by western culture. Because until then there was hardly a clear break with the past and a critical understanding of the past. You only have to look at how many participating in war crimes and the holocaust were able to get away scots free. It is ridiculous that we do need to charge 90-100 year old people for minor participations because the main culprits never got prosecuted or got even acquitted and are lucky to be dead now. You can’t take a critical understanding of your past for granted, too. There are always phases were people are getting tired of it, especially when the German society is drifting to the right again. You just have to look at a lot of people living in the states of the former GDR and the fascists of the AfD. They do have an idealistic picture of Germany’s past that isn’t any different to the one of the British brexiteers glorifying the British imperial past.3 points

I strongly believe that Thatcher fucking the unions, and making trades become contractors, has had a huge influence in the “fuck you, I’m alright Jack” society we now have. Whereas with strong unions, the concept of strength through togetherness and looking out for everyone was front and centre in the minds of the vast majority of working people, now you have multiple small businesses trying to fuck each other over to win the contract, the result being a whole generation of working class Tories. It’s fucked up how many blokes I worked with who were “nice, decent, working blokes” who wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire if they could make a fast buck from it.2 points

Bit sad by this tbh. It seems that the US has won. Especially if people believe him to be a russian stooge etc. Most of that is smear isnt it? Him and Snowdon had valid information that was in the public interest. his "rape" charge was proven to be false and aquitted ,wasn't it? (Based around an accusation of not using a condom?) Timeline here on the BBC but I think the UN getting involved etc , shows some backing for them BBC News - Julian Assange sex assault allegations: Timeline Since then, the UK has gone on to implement the same dark monitoring and influencing tools that Snowdon lifted the lid off: I don't believe this to be conspiracy , I've actually done some jobs in the past to mitigate against some of these tools, for clients overseas. FinFisher / Gamma International (whatever the new product is) Remember when "terrorism on Ipads and phones" were a threat, and you had to turn them on at British Airports to prove they weren't bombs? (They can see that on an xray, surely?) The Data Communications Bill (cough.. UK Patriot Act "if you are a patriot you will share all your personal communications without the need for a warrant or criminal suspicion") The "Nudge Unit" (behavioural Insights team) and most recently, the data reform bill. (All your datas is ours ) We wouldn't know anything about FinSpy / Fisher type activity if it wasn't for Snowdon. The fact that most of these techs are in, and we've a lot of sensible people believing these people are stooges or doing it for their own benefit , is pretty worrying for me. Side note, but propaganda / government control is , for me, pretty serious here at home now - I was pretty pissed off to see advertising boards for the current government all over the town the other week (Levelling up etc). Is that legal, outside of election campaigns? Daily rant done2 points

There was the Head of a school in Hertfordshire whinging on the BBC 600 of students use the train and they will struggle to get in to do their GCSEs. I just thought, instead of whinging, why not be proactive and charter a couple of coaches. Probably only 120 of them or so will be doing the exams, I'm sure their parents can chip in a few quid, what with living in the home counties. The strike will make fuck all difference in the North East. Most intercity are running a reduced service anyway. And we have fuck all local trains to cancel.1 point

I liked a bit of Madness back in the day, but fuck me. Just caught a bit of their insipid, phoned-in ‘performance’ in front of a crowd with all the enthusiasm of a plague of zombies at the Isle of Wight Festival. Suggs never really sang anyway but now he looks like talking might be a problem. The perfect analogy for Britain in 2022.1 point

Rumour has been going around here for some days based on something from the Telegraph. Hazard does mainly play as a left winger and had a couple of good seasons at the two Borussias. He was injured a lot last season and fell down the pecking order. Dortmund did pay 25m and it seems unlikely they would sell him for nearly half the money. They want to raise money from transfers though. Not sure that he would be an upgrade on ASM.1 point

Be a referral from a private consultation. Always pissed me off this, private healthcare in this country is often just a way of bypassing the gatekeepers, with the NHS doing the actual work, for free.1 point

Fill your boots. The very rich retired couple opposite me are lovely, really nice people, always asking how I am, used to ask after my Dad, sent flowers and cards etc, great with the kids. Nicer than me tbh, I can't be arsed with neighbourly relations. Most the street are like them. They read the fucking Express and I'm 99% sure they vote tory. What can you do?1 point

Respectfully, I disagree. I think that there are people who are, at their core, motivated by what is in their interests first and foremost. They're the heroes of the story, they 'deserve' money, respect, freedom. This means they'll willingly accept any story that paints them as the good guys and the 'other' as a threat. They'll willingly accept a political party that feeds their ego with stories like ' Immigrants are taking your jobs', 'Liberal elites think you're stupid and racist' and 'They will have you jailed for saying you're English.' I have an issue with your stats, who's being polled? 85% of the people who answered the survey may well believe that the NHS should be free for everyone. But what's the number for those that voted? It also speaks to the pressure you feel when filling in a survey to appear virtuous, much moreso than the equally anonymous but ultimately more consequential act of voting. I do believe that a decent number of people the world over, likely a majority, are self-centered. There may be a sliding scale of it, but ultimately they're in it for themselves. And everything I've seen politically over the past decade backs that up, in my eyes.1 point

I think this is spot on. Assange was very selective with what he leaked and it has proved disastrous for the UK and especially the US. Fuck knows what his motives were but am I fuck trusting somebody like him. Always makes me think about HF mind, who was his biggest supporter.1 point

Starmer was spot on yesterday when he said the tories are deliberately provoking these strikes as part of the cutlure war. And a further distraction from Johnson's personal life (where the fuck did that article on Carrie Johnson disappear to btw?). They really are fucking scum. However, I think they've probably misread the room here, as usual. And underestimated the Labour front bench. Look at this hilarious exchange between Javid and Streeting's excellent drop the mic response:1 point

Aye, had that shirt but can't remember the champions bit? Unless it was a brainstorm by Freddie Fletcher to get rid of some of the unsold 'old' shirts as the new ASICS shirt was on sale at the end of that season.1 point
