Jonjo Shelvey interview with Sky: “I want to show the club that I warrant a couple more years. I’d happily hold my hands up and say I don’t deserve to be here if I felt I can’t play at this top level any more. But I want to stay as long as I can & be part of it all.” “I love life here, Newcastle is a great place to live. I usually only do 3 yrs then move on, but I’m settled. Let’s not sugar coat it, we needed taken over. Everyone at the club is pulling in the one direction - the camaraderie around the place is something I’ve not seen before.” “I’ve never had a manager like this before. The first thing he did was hand everyone a sheet of paper to write down their wives’ & kids’ names, plus all our birthdays. He wants to know everything about everyone. I’m glad I’m his cup of tea & want to do everything to repay him.” “At some clubs you get the hump if you’re not playing. Players can toss training off at times, if you like. But at Newcastle the ones not playing are in training the next day while the others recover - they’re probably fitter than those who have played the previous day.” “This club will be massive. I’m talking PSG & Man City massive. It’ll take time, and it’s a building process, but Newcastle can go to the top. We just all need to be patient. All I want is to be a part of the process.”8 points

Aye, beat these tomorrow then wop Norwich at the weekend. I'd be happy with an 11th placed finish just to fuck Craig's bet up.8 points

Luke Edwards seems very quiet on this subject of late. Which, don’t get me wrong, is obviously a good thing6 points

Has he been there long enough to start blaming the fans yet, though? Just wait until Little Alex gets punchy on Twitter, defending Daddy against the imaginary threats and insults. The Brucey Playbook 1- Get job 2- Eat crisps 3- Blame previous manager 4- Nice bit cake 5- Blame players 6- Pie? Don’t mind if I do! 7- Blame fans 8- Sit back and wait for compo The only tactics he’s ever used4 points

After reading that thread on their forum, I came up with two conclusions. There is a low level of literacy amongst their fanbase and there are still a lot of them who can't see what a complete fraud Bruce is. In the same vein as Edwards, there is still a fair few of them saying the players just aren't good enough and there's nothing Bruce can do with them. I don't imagine I've watched a West Brom game since we last played them but I'm willing to bet that given they were second earlier in the season and certainly had a very realistic chance of a playoff place when Mrs Doubtfire was appointed, they have players who, properly coached and motivated, could achieve more than the point a game he's managed with them so far.4 points

Oh the nostalgia of this comment from a WBA fan: "Last night the approach seemed to be - keep it tight for 70 mins and try to snatch a winner by putting on a couple of subs. Forest's well organised, young , energetic and well coached side must've thought it was their lucky day. "4 points

Reported! I do not understand your understanding of football at all. For fucking ages you've been convinced we'd go down. Losing every game, while those below us would go on an unprecedented run of wins. But now, here you are predicting the hitherto doomed Newcastle United will smash 4 past Crystal Palace. Newcastle who've only scored >2 twice, and Palace who've only conceded 4 in the last 8 games. I just don't understand.4 points

Can’t think of anyone I particularly despise in this Palace team so I’m looking forward to discovering someone tomorrow night4 points

The colour commentator on the Aussie coverage of the game the other night was making excuses for Bruce during the match, lamenting that 'managers get blamed more than players for poor performance'. Laughable given that it fundamentally wasn't the players as has been demonstrated since Howe has the same players performing better in every facet of the game compared to Bruce. The players largely didn't get blamed and, as it turns out, rightly so. But, hey, yeah it was the players fault they were set up without any discernible gameplan or instructions. Yeah, that's on them. Another comment was something along the lines of 'the players look really well organised under Howe' ... immediately followed by some hasty backtracking ... 'not saying they weren't previously under Steve Bruce'. Really? You're not saying that? Because it's heavily implied from the context of your comment that that is what you're saying, and it's almost like you realised that and now you're frantically and pathetically attempting to backtrack out of it. It's so plain to see that Bruce doesn't have a bloody clue. Anyone that wants to hedge their bets and make excuses for Bruce at this point is clearly only doing so because they're his mate. Bruce is a fraud and his exposure as such to absolutely everyone who hasn't yet realised is only prevented by his mates in the media. Those that know, know, and any football club that hires him at this point are immediately demonstrating they don't know shit. From here on out, a Bruce appointment at a club should be taken as grounds by that club's supporters for demanding the immediate sacking of the board.4 points

I don’t think there’s anything nearby at the moment. There is an entertainment complex with restaurants attached to the arena with a few chain restaurants but I think that’s closed for refurbishment at the moment, at least it was a few months ago when I was down. There’s a decent selection of restaurants in the Cathedral Quarter which is about a 15 minute walk away. Any particular type of cuisine you’re interested in? I’m afraid the availability of battered mars bars is poor but on the upside there’s no shortage of places to buy Buckfast.4 points

Great seeing Man United this shit. They don’t have a defender as good as Trippier and don’t have a midfielder as good as Bruno. Be gone to the dustbin of football history, Manchester Reds. We shall take your place3 points

It's good to hear this place does help. It's what a community is all about. Have to admit when I was struggling with my mental health 4-5 years ago, I avoided places like this which would of course have been a decent tonic. Life is indeed short and we have to make the best of every moment we've got. Have you any control over who your counsellor is? I had one that was utterly useless and managed to get them binned off. The replacement was unbelievably good. Unlocked stuff in mind that needed addressing that I'd completely forgotten about. I used to be such a naysayer when it came to counselling but having gone through the experience myself I can state that is definitely can work. You just need to find the right one. Keep you chin up mate.3 points

I just don’t get how anyone can defend him in any way. Legitimately every fan base of every club he’s been at have exactly the same complaints about how their team plays, their lack of fitness, massive downturn in form etc yet there’s this need to blame the players first by some fan bases. I know our fan base also put some blame on the players but Bruce was always the clear main issue.3 points

I saw one of them mention Pardew was better for them, totally forgot that particular member of the old manager compo club managed them and wondered how he got on: “On 29 November 2017, Pardew was appointed as the new manager of Premier League club West Bromwich. In his debut game in charge, the club drew 0–0 at The Hawthorns, against his previous club Crystal Palace. On 2 April 2018, West Bromwich Albion and Pardew mutually parted company after he had been manager for four months. At the time Albion had gone 10 games without a win, were on a run of eight successive defeats and were bottom of the Premier League.” sounds marginally better than Bruce tbf. How the fuck do these blokes keep getting jobs?3 points

Small world- I used to knock about with Foz when we were kids, bumped in to him a few years ago when he was back visiting. Lovely bloke.3 points

iirc there was a considerable amount of them on twitter and other places joining in the “no clue what Newcastle fans whinge about him for” sentiment when he signed for them. They deserve him for a while longer yet, similarly he deserves to have to have some type of obligation to earn his inevitable pay off even if it is just turning up to their matches.3 points

I wonder if he actually gives it an honest attempt for the first few weeks, sees its not going to work and then just decides to have the patience to wait for the compo3 points

Steve Bruce, who almost certainly eats grab bag sized walkers crisps on the toilet, sees his West Brom side 2-0 & down to 10 men after 20 minutes at Forest. clown3 points

If they go up this season, I’d be tempted to keep him there for the first 6 month of the season at least. He’s like a pig in shit down there and something Barton is doing or saying is clearly working for him2 points

This is fucking excellent, especially for a club desperate to be liked. It’s what they want more than anything, possibly owing to us being so popular in the 90s. Pretty much nobody likes Sunderland, it’s a shithole. If people go for an away day at Sunderland they get the metro from Newcastle and spend their nights out in Newcastle. They are the most arrogant, deluded fanbase in the country, they’d get absolutely rinsed week in week out in the championship & yet somehow think they have a divine right to be in the premier league. HMS Piss the league sails again btw with a 0-0 draw at Plymouth. (A team who actually did love NUFC if you remember)2 points
