Watford have delayed their imminent 7 match winning streak for another week. Looks like Burnley will too5 points

I don't really mind either way at this point, we'll get decent money for him sure but I also expect our new owners to reinvest properly unlike the last lot, so if he goes he goes and we'll get someone else.2 points

If it happens it happens. He’s a great individual but perhaps less of a team player. He’s been amazing where we’ve been at as a club with no overall team structure or direction. He has won games by himself. But if we’re going to kick on as a proper team with decent players willing to give 100% every match then maybe he’s not going to fit in.2 points

I think my plan is to head down the Ouseburn way today so try and be bladdered and home by 6, if you don’t mind.2 points

Not that I think it’s going to happen anyway but if some ‘independent’ adjudicator was introduced (and actually given the authority to veto takeovers like ours in the future) then I still don’t see any scenario where it can retrospectively make judgements. All it would mean is it would be a closed shop so other clubs couldn’t get similar investment in the future. Fans might think / kid themselves this is what they want but I doubt that’s the case in practice in the future2 points

He’s being consistent. In terms of being a fan, he’s boycotted top flight English football for a number of seasons now.2 points

Aye, definitely not self-interested.2 points

The more I think about it, the more I don’t think he fits into Howe’s plan. He is a great individual, but not much of a team player. If we can get £50m for him then this can be reinvested much more wisely.1 point

I think that’s probably spot on. I don’t think England are the best team but it’s as good a side as I’ve seen in my lifetime. I think the 5th placed in the rankings feels about right and with the players they have England should be in with a shout. But like AH said on here recently we’ll need to be braver than we were against Italy in the euros to beat sides in the latter stages1 point

We will play dirge football through the group, it’ll be hailed as professional. Probably beat Senegal or whoever it is we play the first KO round. Then go out to France in the QF in a game that’ll be similar to the Croatia and Italy losses, Southgate will focus on stifling any opposition rather than playing our own game. His defenders will waffle on about how he’s done far more than any recent England manager, while it’s a fair thing to say with regard to people calling him shit it doesn’t make him beyond criticism imo. He’s been brilliant overall, and I think he deserves a ton of credit especially for the culture he’s created in the squad, I still think he’s too cautious especially in key games. Obviously I hope he proves me massively wrong. I can’t look past France or Brazil for this tournament tbh. If France turn up they’re the best squad in international football, and Brazil have been excellent for a while now.1 point

Just give England the trophy now, save a load of time for everyone, they always win it between the draw and the actual tournament 🙄1 point

In the Town Mouse, waiting for my brother to arrive for a mild, middle-aged afternoon sesh on the ales. Very civilised, so far. Target is to make it to The Cumberland/ Free Trade whichever by teatime without falling over1 point

Aye, it would take an Abramovich type scenario to take the club off them and I think as someone mentioned it would be even harder to do given the way the deal was structured. There couldn’t be any retrospective judgement in cases like ours and Man City as you say, especially if it was for the reasons everyone suddenly desires because there’s no legal structure in place in the UK preventing Saudi from investing (we know the Govt are actively encouraging the opposite as well), so some bureaucratic body with very limited purview wouldn’t be able to even attempt to remove them from ownership without getting sued to fuck. As you say any increase in these types of powers just impacts potential owners. Even then it’s questionable how much they’d even be able to prevent most owners anyway, iirc they rejected one of Leeds recent owners due to charges in Italy about his finances but he appealed the charge and then sued the EFL saying he still wasn’t guilty and they had to allow him ownership, he went on to lose the appeal but by that point he was owner. To be honest, I’m not sure it makes any difference anyway - the reason our ownership kicked up such a fuss is our lot are the end game of this, so preventing less rich owners taking over, or allowing them won’t impact the impending UAE and Saudi domination of the league.1 point

I like how that completely ignores England losing to them at the 1950 World Cup and that probably being the biggest upset in World Cup history1 point

They’ve got a fucking nerve. Wasn’t it not that long ago they were trying to sell themselves to the Saudis?1 point

I don’t think very many of them are now. Someone on here mentioned there’s a Sunderland Amnesty International page on Facebook. Even after the takeover and all the moral outrage on RTG the page remained very quiet with very few likes / comments for any of their subsequent events (even ones directly related to the Saudis iirc). Not sure if they managed to get a response from Sting either1 point

Sounds like a House of Fools spin-off. I'd actually love to hear Vic and Bob going at it with their best ott Russian accents.1 point

Thanks lads, honestly it was a nice day. Heard lots of stories of the shit he used to get up to with his mates/at work when he was younger. A lot of people held him in high regard, and I didn’t pay for a drink all night1 point

Oh, I do really like it when English people get big nosed ahead of a tournament. It normally ends in an epic failure. Normally it was Stevie, but Gemmill will do this time. Great minds…1 point

Ewerk did one a while back if I remember correctly? Turns out all his descendants were English and since he found out he always goes out on St George's day dressed as a crusader drinking Carling black label I believe?1 point
