I didn’t realise the number in EU27 represented the number of HGV drivers willing to come and work in Britain in the run up to Xmas3 points

I can't stand that cunt. It's mad as well cos they have this thing where "deploy Boris" is some sort of code for just let him go out there and wow and charm people. Who the fuck is finding this dickhead anything other than unbearable and more to the point, totally incompetent. Can they not see through the act? It's so weird.2 points

There are people who can't see past how awful Ashley is and give Bruce a free pass because of it. They don't realise that sometimes you have to treat the symptoms and then go after the cause.2 points

It always amazes me just how little money it takes to buy influence in the UK. There are third world countries where you have to pay millions to the right person but in this country all you have to do is donate tens of thousands to the Conservative Party.2 points

Ha. Thats a bit harsh. They've matured a little bit since '93 like, but probably only in that sense though. This one sound like they album I was expecting them to put out 20 odd years ago. Less Faces and more Cheap Trick commentating on SLF colliding with Cardiacs on some motorway in the arse end nowhere.1 point

We've no storage capacity, in contrast to most of Europe. And don't listen to the idiot Johnson wanting to switch to renewables by some ridiculously optimistic date. I honestly don't know how people don't understand renewables can only ever be part of the solution as they are all intermittent The more we use renewables, the less resilience we have. Get a day without wind and your freezer will defrost. We need to generate base load. Nuclear would be best but we have massively fuckwd that up.1 point

COVID was spreading in Wuhan as early as summer 2019 – reports Coronavirus infections were apparent in China much earlier than was initially thought, according to a report seen by the Telegraph. Analysts from cyber security consultancy Internet 2.0 found "notable, significant and abnormal" purchases of PCR lab equipment in the second half of 2019. Spending in the Hubei Province on PCR equipment nearly doubled to £7.8 million in 2019 from £4 million in 2018 and £3.3 million in 2017, according to the report. These products are critical in tracking COVID infections. China's uplift in spending began as early as May 2019 – seven months before it alerted the World Health Organisation about the virus. In their report, experts said: "We have come to the conclusion that, based on the data analysed, it suggests the virus was highly likely to be spreading virulently in Wuhan, China, as early as the summer of 2019 and definitely by the autumn. "We assess with high confidence that the pandemic began much earlier than China informed the WHO about COVID-19."1 point

The Pandora files investigation was a massive international collaboration, the timing of its release was nothing to do with the Tory conference. And I think Marr and Robinson's approach was more to do with the fact that this PM very rarely submits himself to interviews so they're making the most of their opportunity.1 point

I don't properly understand this reluctance to allow workers in from other countries. Brexit was supposed to be about taking back control of ours borders, not shutting them completely. There are easily identifiable sectors with acute labour shortages. We aren't going to be able to fill those shortages in the short to medium term so why not offer multi-year visas for those roles? An offer of the ability to work up until Christmas eve is just insulting.1 point

I mean it's not as simple as just being Brexit - Brexit's role in this is that it has completely devastated the flexibility we had in the system to handle crisis moments, and I think honestly that'll generally be how such issues manifest in future. The crisis itself was largely driven by panic buying based on BP announcing they were having some supply issues. Whereas once it would have been a fairly simple job for the market to supply drivers to take up the load to fix this, the reality now is that we've been making it more and more difficult for the very people we need to help us - and ultimately that's why the government was forced into a nationally humiliating u-turn over their visas.1 point

It's worth remembering that that run involved losing by a single goal to Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Spurs and Man U and we conceded less goals in those first ten games of the season than we have done in the seven games this season.1 point

This is true, and there are mitigating factors now as there was then. However, Bruce is bad at football management and a cunt.1 point
