Yeah, but this does remind me of another important adage. Never burn your bridges. Might make you feel good, but nothing to be gained, and always the possibility something will be lost. At my previous job, my manager just wouldn't talk to me for my final 2 months. Didn't even pass on condolences; got to admit it was hard for me to not say something, but I stayed professional because he has a lot of links to employers I may need.2 points

Ive probably hired 30-40 staff over the years. Never see a reference yet, let alone sickness records. I assume someone in HR makes sure there's nothing hideous in the references before they confirm the contract1 point
