Assuming this takeover by Elaine from Seinfelds cousin does go through, and assuming he's willing to spunk a load of money on them like Short did, they still have the problem that they aren't an attractive option for players who are looking for anything but a payday. Most of us are aware that it's not always the easiest to attract players to come here. It's colder than the rest of the country, further away from London than anywhere else, we can't promise the biggest wages and we can't offer challenging for trophies or European football. Even when we could offer those last three we found it harder than teams in London and Manchester. They have the same problems as us but also have a town that offers nothing, fans that have made their players feel intimidated at home, no European history whatsoever and being stuck in league 1. I don't see any immediate prospect of them moving very far upwards at all.4 points

Fuck if anyone's actually gonna use that let me know and I'll spend more than 3 minutes on it. Use of that logo is conditional though, I politely request you donate at least 5 pence to any given charity (your own beer fund is fine by me) just so we can safely say that Fish Energy has generated more cash than Gimli's weird bathtub concoction.3 points

Is this not going to be the week when Joelinton can rightly say he is getting the hang of this football lark?3 points

INTRO TO SUNLUN’ TIL I DIE SEASON 3 “Growing up in the billionaires playgrounds of the French Riviera and Switzerland, Kyril always felt drawn to the litter-strewn estates of the shit-hole of the North- he felt a kinship with the attic-dwelling mutants, and knew one day that his ultimate MLF dream of owning their tinpot club would become a reality.… … once they’d been ruined by the dodgy insurance salesman, he’d be able to buy them for loose change and fulfil their true potential of giving him a manageable loss on his investment within five years, but invaluable experience for his true dream when he eventually bid for his Dad’s old club. If their management carousel managed to lift them to the heady heights of the arse-end of the Championship, he may even consider keeping them on his portfolio as a feeder club to his beloved OM. For now, he’d be happy if he could stop their feral followers from shitting in the stands once they were allowed back in.“3 points

I've just had a quick look at their Wiki page and it looks like that since they were relegated at the end of the 50's they've spent more than half of the seasons outside the top flight (4 in the 3rd tier). The premier league has always been their temporary stop.2 points
-
Aye, they deny it while calling our lot deluded but the fans literally expecting promotion as they assume they’re still a PL side on a temporary stop is a real issue for them. Any draw or loss receives a massive backlash as they still haven’t got it through their thick skulls that this is their level now.2 points

The daft thing is, they fell into that league when Ellis Short owned them. Now you would be hard pushed to call Short a good owner of Sunderland because he put his trust in too many wrong people and made too many knee jerk decisions. But he certainly didn't criminally mismanage them like Ridsdale did with Leeds. Short put his hand in his own pocket time and time again and when he left he did it in a way that tried to help them as much as he could, writing off what they owed him. They just constantly wasted the money he gave them. They are now in their third season in league one and are currently showing very little in the way of signs that stay is coming to an end (with the caveat that they are still not a million miles away from being in the promotion picture points wise). As Fish says, the story was their relegation. Their continuing inability get themselves out of the mess they put themselves in is no more of a story than it was for Leeds while they were down there too. And Leeds had a much greater fall from Champions League semis, League Champions just before the start of the premier league era and being a major force English football in the 60's & 70's. Sunderland have had one cup win in the 70's which was their only success since the 30's. About half the rest of the time they spend out of the top flight and have had, I think, 6 top ten finishes since the 40's. They like to write off our credentials with us only having the Fairs cup since the 50's but we've had 7 top ten finishes this century and 8 seasons in some form of European competition (yes I'm including the Intertoto because hey, it's better the Anglo Italian) so we are known around the world. They simply are no more relevant that Shrewsbury who beat them last night.2 points

And even that’s skewed somewhat by the last period in the top flight. Mostly thanks to an owner who threw money at the club and who most of them hate. Collectively the fan base is thick as fuck1 point

Baked beans... fuck off... Don't know where he got this from but James O'Brien said this morning that out of all hospital admissions due to covid in the last 12 months one third were in the calender month of January 2021 Thats what you get when you have a prime minister who doesn't like to give out bad news1 point
-
Aye, it's not like Ellis Short didn't throw money at them and look how that ended up. This kid is a 22 year old with no life experience. It could be enough to get them back to the PL but I don't think they need to book their flights to Milan just yet.1 point

There was plenty of tattoo parlours and fried chicken shops too, the last time I was there.1 point

Mate you want Bake Off. This is like putting the football on and complaining that they're only showing the match, and not how the lines get painted on the pitch.1 point

He might as well have idiots as defence lawyers, he is getting off no matter what. He could send somebody to just stand up and say, "The defence case is go fuck yourself" and he still get the Republicans to vote to acquit1 point

Imagine trusting this shower of cunts If you can't pick out Farage, Johnson, Gove and Rees Mogg as deceitful bullshitting wankers you've failed at life. Am not sure the majority of people who voted for brexit put that much thought into it tbh but if you're a fisherman who is now suffering from buyers regret i don't have a great deal of sympathy for you.1 point

And in other news see Andre Villa-Boas has been sacked/suspended (depending on the source) by Marseille for speaking out after the club signed a player he didn't want! https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/feb/02/andre-villas-boas-offers-to-resign-as-marseille-coach-over-signing-of-ntcham Imagine having a manager with a set of balls willing to say no to a player they don't think is good enough?!?? Oh wait. Allegedly Rafa has been linked with the job at Marseille, I can see him gagging for the chance to work for a club that signs player the manager doesn't want.1 point

We're in the middle of a pandemic that's killed over 100,000 Britons so far, businesses are going bust and jobs are being lost every single day due to covid and Brexit. Let's take a peek to see what they're doing about it in parliament:0 points
