  1. My 13yr old daughter has just come stomping down the stairs and demanded that I “turn that weird stuff off!” Isn't it meant to be the other way round?

  3. Just had a humbling moment there. Have a bloke decorating my house at the minute - got chatting to him and turns out he's a pilot on furlough. He's taken up work as a decorator to try and pay his mortgage. He’s not that good at cutting in, but he did a great job on the landing.

  6. Music for Airports Apollo On Land Off the top of my head, all of those are bloody marvellous. As is ‘For All Mankind’ the documentary about the Apollo missions, which Apollo is the soundtrack to. The film is more bits of footage set to music than a conventional, linear-style documentary. And all the better for it. He’s done loads of stuff and loads of collaborations too (not all ambient) but those three should be a good place to start. I think Sonatine may have been talking about ‘Another Green World’ recently which isn’t really an ambient album but the (albeit short) title track was the gorgeous theme to the BBC’s Arena series

  10. Notice how every shitty employer’s response was, “ The safety of employees is our priority…” which translates in plain English to “ We couldn’t give a fuck”.

  13. A bit late with the reply but wasn’t there one of them on Fraggle Rock? To be honest, I’d take her, Sprocket or (for that matter) Fulton McKay, over Bruce at the minute

  14. Daniel Lanois who also (along with Eno) worked on The Joshua Tree did the lush pedal steel guitar bits on Apollo. I saw a classical ensemble with pedal steel guitarist BJ Cole play the full Apollo album at the Sage the night (was it Halloween too?) when we stuffed the mackems 5-1. They also had a screen showing footage from the film. Probably the most middle class thing I’ve ever been to. Fucking class though

  18. We took a decision as a safety team to shut all our offices during the first lock down and haven’t opened them. There is no need for office staff to be in an office all day unless higher ups don’t trust them, in which case why employ them? Or the higher ups are knobs. Wonder which one is more common. Our construction sites are still open but with heavy guidance in place to protect workers. They are difficult to manage mind.

  25. His stuff with Harold Budd is great, so all part of his ambient series. Also if you want to go a bit more in your face than the ambient series his album with David Byrne, My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, is brilliant. This is a really good read if you want to see how Eno made his ambient releases. https://reverbmachine.com/blog/deconstructing-brian-eno-music-for-airports/ Enjoy the rabbit hole you are about to fall down Fist. And while you're there check out Grouper, very Eno inspired - https://grouper.bandcamp.com/

  28. That may or may not be the case, I think normally it demonstrably isn't personally, but I don't get the logic of this move even if its true. In one fell swoop they've lost the moral high ground they've built over the last 4 years. For no gain I can see. If this marks the start of true hostilities between the UK and EU things could get quite scary for us. Feels like a prelude to a blockade.

  29. Nice one mate, the Apollo stuff and documentary is new to me. Another Green World was pretty much my starting point, and I’ve just realised Deep Blue Day is on the Apollo album. 👍

  38. NJS just said he’s too much of a centrist. I’m just saying the world could do with more Bidens and Starmers right now - vanilla, left of centre, consensus builders. We are crying out for boring centrists. Climate change is an area Biden is already taking seriously. He played a crucial part in getting the Paris agreement over the line, has obviously rejoined straight away, and has created a special climate envoy role for John Kerry - hopefully a sign that he isn’t fucking about.

  43. That would be very sage advice if it applied to us in any way. Mind, imagine completely losing all of your integrity as a journalist in the eyes of fans everywhere over Steve Fucking Bruce How hard up can you be as a journalist to only have him as a trusted source?
