  5. I didn't mention because you can all see my picture but I was not glad they didn't have camera phones as it would ruin my rep or anything but because it would have been ugly squared.

  8. Getting the Pfizer jab next week. Feel a bit guilty because undoubtedly some staff and patients need it more than me but on the other hand I am in a care bubble so it will also indirectly benefit 3 others. Only got to survive the weekend now.....

  9. Wasn’t Josh King the lad who relegated the mackems to the championship? We should sign him and Darren Bent and just give them a corporate box to sit in.

  10. There was a twitter thread about Josh Hawley, the little shite hawk senator who was one of those opposing the vote certifications. The bloke writing the thread went to the same super posh twat school in London that Hawley did, and reckons on arrival one of the teachers said "You're not another fascist like Hawley, are you?" This lad is the real deal, but he's a slick Patrick Bateman type, and not oafish or tactless in the way that Trump is. This is why they need to clamp down on all of them now, Cruz, Hawley, really make it clear that if you get involved in seditious conspiracy, it ends your political career. Otherwise they'll have to reckon with an emboldened Hawley in 2024.

  11. If they’ve got any sense, regardless of the grief involved, Trump should receive official censure, removed or impeached without delay; if they don’t he can say till his dieing day that he did nothing wrong because he didn’t receive punishment from the legislature. Next month the feds can make a proper start on him the rest of the clan too. But he must be seen to have received punishment from the state.

  12. It was weird around our way, people who've never said a word to eachother in years smiling and waving as they smash pans together. Think it lasted about 4 weeks before people binned it off. I did it once, because I wanted to show support to the NHS, but then I realised they'd probably not hear it and would be better served if I just used my vote to make change instead. Then I remembered I live in a safe Tory seat and tumbled down the "everything is fucking pointless and shit" rabbit hole.

  13. Can confirm that Tinder is canny class but is also a real rollercoaster when a top notch bit of skirt matches with you and quickly unmatches and you realise that it was obviously a mistake and your very face repulses them. Never happened to me, obviously

  14. Sounds great to me, 15 years down the line we might be able to sign a good player who wants to "come home" for the twilight of his career.

  16. Far be it from me to doubt their vast experience but wouldn’t it be easier to have more, smaller vaccination centres around local areas rather than huge ones. Granted, if they hadn’t slashed and burned the NHS for a decade, they’d have more people qualified and trained to vaccinate people but still. Or even the Vaccine Mobile. It can come round your estate like an ice cream man.

  23. Christ we are an old board, I hit 34 in December. I remember when I was 21 And I remember posting in my birthday thread I felt “old”. I was rightly given stick. Being younger was nice but I wouldn’t want to be in my early 20s growing up in this metamodern hellscape. I’m happy how I spend my youth.

  26. They’re really nice. I’ve been a Stan Smith man for years but I’ve noticed the youngsters at work starting to wear them on a Friday, and that is putting me off. They should stick to those Weeezey hovercraft looking monstrosities, posted earlier in thread, and leave Stan Smiths for us middle aged bastards. It’s tantamount to cultural appropriation.

  28. That sounds about right - and yes, it has. At the time I saw Trump as a possible pressure release on nationalism. The notion that the right would see how godawful he was and realise that this kind of shit wasn't the answer. Clearly some Americans have indeed seen this given the record numbers of turnout to stop his re-election, but ultimately I can't claim to have been right in any sense, given that record numbers also voted for Trump. What I didn't predict was that fake news would only get worse, and that the polarisation of the two sides would become more important than what they were even fighting about (to the Trumpists at least). I mean, no thinking person should actually be capable of watching a Trump press conference and fully buy into what he's saying. It's so transparently fake that I don't believe it's possible to even be hoodwinked into it. My fear was that we'd be at a point sort of like this, but after 4 years of Clinton during which time the right would organise and the threat would grow. It's impossible to know for sure but given that Trump clearly isn't the real enemy behind this, I don't think we should imagine that this will all settle down without him. Remember at the time we were seeing populists coming to power all over the place - it's not going to go away because Trump has been defeated. But on balance, clearly nothing positive has come from him having won versus my alternative scenario, and so we may as well have had 4 years of stability and adult politics. Therefore yes, Clinton would have been a better outcome even with respect of my concerns at the time (and clearly in all the normal ways anyway). I will still argue she was the wrong candidate to choose though, for the Democrats.

  29. “Work Will Set You Free” was a slogan used above the entrances to concentration camps. (As above) Except it didn’t & it was merely a cruel trick specifically targeting Jewish inmates. The Germans, a largely agricultural nation at the turn of the century couldn’t understand how Jewish people accumulated wealth without sweating for it. So anti Jewish propaganda & conspiracy theories about them running the world & being in line with commies etc were easily digested by the German people, who had to work hard post WW1 but were still desperately poor, especially in light of the terms of the Versailles treaty. (Which they believed was overseen by Jews) I visited Dachau memorial site just outside of Munich and the stories were horrific. For a work related “story” - German officers would regularly gather groups of Jewish prisoners and March them off to a corner of the site. They’d order them to start digging & obviously having seen the sign the Jewish lads worked their arses off and shifted tons of soil. At the end the Germans told them to fill the hole back in & it’s back to the barracks. “work will set you free”

  33. I've never understood the whole notion of blanket respect for the troops. I was at a wedding a couple of years ago, the groom was in the Navy, as were all his mates. All in uniform and, to a man, a giant set of noisy cunts. Fuck respect, I spent all day lamenting the fact that their boat hadn't sunk.
