Anyway, the good news is that my cleaner is back as of today. I was on half pay from May through August with a significant job loss threat hanging over me (thankfully now resolved), so couldn't keep her on. This is a significant boost which won't be reflected in any of your covid doomsday graphs.3 points

Aye, I’ve told me dad he can come round to see the bairns if he cuts the lawn and cleans the windows2 points

Honestly I could not be nicer. I'm just an all round great bloke. I'm confident she would agree without me even having to remind her that this is only her first week back and things can change quickly.2 points

I'd always thought of him in the same way as Yngwie Malmsteen - very good technically but producing music/songs that didn't really appeal to me. I do see his influence in Randy Rhoads who I did really like and there have been some good tributes from other people I like like Tony Iommi which suggest he was a decent bloke as well. RIP.2 points

I suppose it’s down to the individual & it’s pointless arguing about it. Some fellas can get an epic sound from a solid state amp, sometimes you’ll be tricked into think a modelling amp is the real thing...whatever. Everyone has their preference. You’ve just got to hope people grow up and buy a decent valve amp.2 points

As a guitar player EVH was the tits. The very tits & I don’t think I’ll have met many people who’ve picked up a guitar who weren’t influenced by him. Rest in peace2 points

I’ve given up hope but it seems to wind up tragic figures like Edwards and UM so it’s useful in that regard at least2 points

I'm sure someone could explain to me that Wolves transfer dealings aren't bent as fuck but I think I'd find it hard to believe... Jorge Mendes Was Deadline Day's Big Winner https://nyti.ms/36xzHLy2 points

A hotcake is an overdrive and a Prunes and Custard is a harmonic generator made by Crowther Audio. Paul Crowther was the drummer in Splitz Enz, one of NZ's biggest bands and he and his pedals are legends, also rare-ish. https://www.premierguitar.com/articles/5_Boutique_Stompbox_Builders_You_Should_Know?page=5 https://signalchain.com.au/collections/crowther-audio https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emlyn_Crowther1 point

This https://www.davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/detail/RUMSEY~8~1~268638~90042895:Esso-Pictorial-Plan-of-the-West-Cou was moved around our 2 family homes for at least 45 years...it’s got lbits of verse & doggrel all around it like the one below.. We stayed at St Coulomb (was this near where @The Fish stayed? If so we successfully avoided him ) at the start of September which is about 10/15 mins inland from Newquay in an Air B & B. Great location, basically in the middle of everywhere. Hiked out to Polly Joke beach where the sea when the tide is out is about a mile from the Coastal Path. Went to Fowey caught the ferry to Mevagissey, saw porpoise & dolphins going out & coming back, then got mildly pissed at lunchtime at the 14th century Fountain Inn. Cornwall, even when mobbed with tourists, is fabulous. Went to Hartland about a decade ago, another brilliant walk/beach/lighthouse.... I like.a lighthouse 🤓1 point

I can’t believe you’re flagrantly flaunting Lockdown rules by allowing a cleaner into your home. And a Hispanic one at that (I presume). It’s enough to make me put my foot through my phone and send you the bill1 point

I am looking at the WHO graphs for the UK and there is no exponential increa in death rates.1 point
-
Excess deaths over average has gone up 4.1%, 4.9% and 5.2% in last three reported weeks, it is climbing albeit slowly just now. I thinks it's combination of lower age of the infected and much improved care for those seriously ill such that mortality rate is lower than when it first hit no matter what, unless of course services get swamped. Florida model showed a good few weeks lag from younger age groups being infectious until it inexorably climbed into the older/more at risk categories. Early days yet.1 point

The recent abstentions haven't been an endorsement of the bills but an attempt to amend the bills (which are going to pass regardless) in committee stage. Labour have been vocal against them in the debates. Covid isn't the sort of thing you want to be making into a political issue. Labour have supported the government when they believe they've been doing the right thing and opposed them when they haven't, that's the right thing to do.1 point

You can tinker about with restrictions as much as you like but you regularly see whole families going food shopping for a basket full of items, for example. Levels of complacency like that in somewhere which seems like such an obviously high risk place in terms of infection suggests this is going nowhere anytime soon.1 point

Ah man, what a bummer. Van Halen were one of my favourite bands when I was a young shaver, their album Diver Down was the soundtrack to an incredible summer spent camping and climbing in the Lakes with my mates and our girlfriends. Eddie was a phenomenal player, not just at the fiddly-diddly stuff he’s famous for- he had some knockout riffs and their albums up to and including 1984 showed a huge variety of styles. This is one of my favourite VH songs, which instantly takes me back to the care-free summer in Borrowdale, climbing and shagging RIP Eddie, fucking legend. ( We’ll diplomatically say nowt about the post-Dave Lee Roth band ).1 point

First poppy advert of the season on the telly tonight and they're equating the COVID-19 crisis to - you guessed it - war. It's going to be a long winter...1 point

I'd put that down to the general shitness of the BBC tbh. Yesterday on air he was quite forthright in criticising the motorcade charade and the fact Trump exposed his staff to completely unnecessary risk. Interesting how people percieve things differently I guess.1 point
-
Yeah, hopefully you're right and once the steroids wear off he's toast. One of the withdrawal symptoms is psychosis mind so I hope they keep him away from the button. Confused as to Gemmill's comments on Sopel there mind. I watch the BBC news most nights and have always got the impression he (justifiably) hates Trump. Don't see how he could make it any plainer and keep his job.1 point

I don’t see that the seriousness of his illness has been underplayed, he’s just decided that being 17 points behind requires drastic action. Being a psychopathic narcissist this shit comes easy to him. His actions this week will kill at least another 100k US citizens and possibly himself if he gets hit by the second phase of the virus. Hope he lives to be voted out by a significant margin. And hopefully then he and his mob are prosecuted for their crimes and thrown in jail . I think he knows if he loses that’s his future and he’s willing to roll these deadly dice to avoid it.1 point
