Here's another letter objecting to the proposed takeover....10 points
-
I'm not too impressed with them and I wouldn't lie if the thought of us winning stuff only because these got on board wouldn't take a bit of the shine off. The trouble is you could say the same for most clubs to differing degrees, from Man City to Chelsea, from Blackburn to Liverpool. The second the game turned professional the gloves were off and a club with a wealthier owner gave that that club a real advantage. It's one of the reasons the old Etonian's have to content themselves literally ruling the country whilst not ruling the football league anymore. Like cups and trophies it always seems there's a time limit on when you won your silver depending on who's telling the story? I think the same goes with rich backers. If it's our turn we'll get it in the neck, more so on account of the human rights issues but we'd get it regardless. It's a tough one but when it comes to it are you going to stop saying you support your club? I stopped going as I couldn't bare paying my money to a parasite who was letting NUFC rot. These would be the opposite, so do I go back? I'm leaning towards yes as I'm fucked if the actions of others is being put on me, personally. I'd be more than happy if this got blocked as long as it was across the board and some real legislation was introduced to let all clubs be ran via their supporters and people paid through the club's to run them. If this doesn't happen then don't come looking for us, we don't run the game nor the country.10 points

I don’t think I’ve seen any articles yet criticising Ashley for taking the Saudi money.9 points
-
I don't think that articles right at all. Firstly while I agree that the actions of the Saudi's in their own county is far from something I approve of, I don't see how it's remotely the fault of anything they might own. People haven't died in Yeman so that we can win anything. They are totally separate things. I'm not burying my head in the sand about things they have done, it's deplorable. But they certainly haven't been done in the cause of Newcastle United. If being bought by the Saudi's leads to us winning things I won't feel any more hollow about it than I would have if it had come from the money of Ashley or John Hall. There's an element of wishing it could come from the fans owning the club and growing organically but that is never going to happen unless all of professional football is completely overhauled. And that certainly isn't going to happen any time soon. For me the best that could come out of this would be that we move forward and win something as a club and that it also highlights the wrongdoings of the owners and puts pressure on them to change.8 points

I have been so many years trying to convince my friends to go Newcastle on Holidays as a pretext to see one match, to meet St. James Park, to be in the environment with all of you... Ok. The response that I have hear always was 'Nah. Newcastle... Is there nothing there. Is a bad City etc etc etc etc'. As the point.. I believe that. This summer, when I can go Newcastle at least, I was totally in love with the city. I don't know why, but as a outsider, I can confirm people has a bad idea that what Newcastle is as a city.6 points

The only journalists I want to hear talk about this take over are the journalists who held Ashley to account and you can count them on one hand. We didn’t choose Ashley as owner and we’re not getting to choose who he sells to.6 points

Justin Barnes on the phone to try to get him to do some good PR for Mike in case the spotlight turns to him accepting Saudi money. Imagine being so disliked that one of the people you use for PR is Richard Keys, a man exiled in QATAR because nobody in his homeland can abide him.5 points

Am I right that Rayvin is feeling guilty about celebrating success we haven’t even had yet? I ask because I couldn’t be arsed to read the whole article.5 points

I'm already bored of the debate. Like football supporters should concern themselves with global politics. Most of our lot couldn't even bring themselves to stop going when they were getting the piss directly ripped out of them. They're not going to suddenly make a stand when we're mint. People should stop biting. It feeds the press and the bitter journalism.5 points

I had to stop after the first sentence: Why is it always the fans fault? Our something we are going to regret? The fans have not had a say at Newcastle United for the last 13 years, the fans are not the ones going to pocket a cool 300 million, plus all the other money he has trousered in those 13 years, the fans have not had the support of the majority of the media, well... ...ever in my experience. And yet all these cunts are calling the fans out. What is actually going to happen is the club will eventually start winning things, we'll end up with a bunch of plastic/glory fans in the Middle East/Asia/Australia/the States and after a while the media will have forgotten all the hyperbole that they are spouting like a drunk yelling at the sky and start talking about the brilliant football played by the club's world class players. We won't have cunts like the cabbie and that other Ashley apologist turn up, being paid 10p per word to tell us how good we've got it, in the club's stealth social media campaign and the kids of Newcastle who have started following citeh and chelsea, etc because they want to follow a club that is successful will now follow their hometown club.5 points

Whilst everyone and their dog are having a dig at us for being pleased, it’s maybe worth noting that the Chairman of BeIn Sports, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who’s also President of PSG, the same BeIn Sports crying about dirty tricks from the Saudis, isn’t exactly squeaky-clean himself. In October 2017, the Swiss courts opened an investigation against him for suspicion of private corruption in the allocation of television rights for the World Cups 2026 and 2030 for the North Africa and Middle East zone. In March 2019, he is placed under the status of witness assisted by the French courts. On 23 May 2019, he was indicted for active bribery in an investigation into the 2017 and 2019 Doha nominations for the World Championships in Athletics. "These facts do not concern him", pleads his lawyer who believes that Nasser Al-Khelaïfi is innocent. In February 2020, Swiss prosecutors dropped the charge of bribery but indicted Al-Khelaifi for inciting Jérôme Valcke “to commit aggravated criminal mismanagement." So, I believe the correct moral response to BeIn Sports, and their more hirsute employees, would be … ” Get fucked, you massive hypocrites.”4 points

Remember when Thaksin Shinawatra bought Citeh with what was obviously money embezzeled from Thailand there was a couple of reports alluding to it at the time and then nothing. He actually bought the club with stolen money and when he sold it on the Abu Dhabi group and made a huge profit again no one gave a fuck.4 points

The fit and proper persons test is just that. They’re more bothered about a record of insolvency than genocide or having the odd journalist murdered. (Who obviously deserved it for insulting our benevolent & wise Crown Prince)4 points

As has been said by most of us on here, it’s entirely possible to criticise them, and the horrific practices and beliefs they have, whilst also applying the same criticism to “more enlightened” states. The US is in a fucking tailspin towards all out civic breakdown if they carry on with The Tangerine, and he’s not the sole cause of that, it’s been building for years. They had a chance with Obama to step back from the brink and be decent, but we know how that worked out. If we’re not careful, we’ll find ourselves in a similar mess too, I fear. There’s a worldwide outbreak of cuntishness, and I don’t see anyone in power, or with the ability to get in to power, doing a great deal to stop it.3 points

Fucking hell. Lads the Saudi's cut thief's hands off regularly, decapitate people with machetes and have done so quite frequently in public, and have killed and then crucified a person in at least one case, also in public. A non Saudi servant for a Saudi family stated that her employers, more like slave masters, were unhappy with her work and so cut one of her hands off which they were allowed to do. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. If we as Newcastle fans start trying to draw transparently false equivalences we will rightly get torn to pieces by the media and other fans. Having said all that I'm going to go toast the prince3 points

For balance, in 2018 Saudi Arabia carried out 149 executions. USA carried out 25 executions. The legal systems of the 2 countries aren’t the polar opposites some would have you believe. Just ask any poor, black American3 points

I thought it might’ve been like with Shepherd when Ashley took over. Except instead of just saying he could stay on because he was in hospital, they could let him stay on until they put him in hospital3 points

Sky Sports say that Lee Charnley has indicated he would be willing to stay on for at least an initial period to help with the handover from Mike Ashley BUT that the new owners instead want him out of the door as soon as the deal is done. Oh dear what a shame3 points

I know it has been mentioned elsewhere but where the fuck was all this "concern" when Sheffield United were bought by Saudis in 2013 or even when they returned to the PL in 2019 - those dirty arabs were pirating bein then were they not? Of course they were. The cunts are all scared that finally, someone has seen the potential of Newcastle and after years of not having to worry about us and telling us we should be grateful for that cunt of a human being Ashley, they know it is only a matter of time.3 points

You know what’s really cool about all this media indignation, froth, frenzy, baiting bollocks? Neither Newcastle United nor PIF-Saudis/Staveley/Reuben bros etc. have said anything. Nowt.3 points

They’d honestly be better off with thinking FFP will stop the Saudis, the chances that Saudi Arabia are going to buy a club and watch it get howked by one owned by Abu Dhabi, while also being a million miles behind one owned by Qatar is slim to fucking nil. This play by the Bein sports lot has nothing to do with a fear over piracy and everything to do with trying to keep the Saudis out of the top echelons of football imo. That’s before we even mention the clubs they looked into buying before us were Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea apparently. Enjoy a solid decade of “The Don” you bunch of nonce sympathizers.3 points

Yes, each country should be judged by its own merits and some basic moral standards that should apply to all regardless of their ancient or recent history. Therefore there is no sense in stating that other countries have poor human rights records as well. That doesn’t make any of the atrocities any better, on neither side.2 points

We all know how much those nice Qataris love their human rights. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_Qatar “But you can’t blame Nasser Al-Khelaifi, ( PSG President and BeIn Sports chairman), for the failings of his countries government!” , might be the cry from our vocal, hand-wringing critics. Thats Nasser Al-Khelaifi, ( PSG President and BeIn Sports chairman), who was also made Minister Without Portfolio in the Qatari Government in 2014.2 points

I'd also add I'm more than getting irritated by people who couldn't normally give a monkey's chuff about us and no real interest spouting we don't like Ashley as he never spent much? Within two years the bloke got a big club who finished in the CL places five years earlier relegated. How the fuck do you manage that? Can you imagine the hell that would've been made if he'd done the same with Arsenal, Man Utd or whoever? After that the second relegation was merely routine to them I suppose? But, aye, he didn't spend much, did he? (The fucking tosspots).2 points
