We should also add those in emergency council accommodation as well as that tends to be fucking miserable. Again in hindsight I think the council house sell of was Thatcher's biggest crime.5 points

The recent surge in homelessness and rough sleepers is obviously down to the government and their cuts. It shouldn’t even be up for debate. There’s always been people who fall through the cracks for whatever reason, some of it their own doing, but it breaks my fucking heart to see what this country has become4 points

So you’re saying we... have a special connection? Anyone know when they play Feyenoord?4 points

Of course I accept that some are criminals, some are hopeless drug addicts, and some may just not want the type of help the state gives (if in practice it gives any help). My point was that I've observed more people seem desperate but have no pathway to get out of their situation. Maybe my perception is wrong but I doubt it. The Guardian has done quite a lot about this. It's a solvable problem though, with adequate resourcing. Finland get the homeless housed without any preconditions. Means people can be homed first and then get their problems sorted. Seems like common sense to me and it apparently works.3 points

NUFC played ADO in a pre season friendly in August 2012. Mags were invited into the supporters club bar for drinks and an impromptu game of football broke out between them and some 11 year olds on the grass outside. The Dutch 11 year olds proved to be a stern test for the mostly early middle aged visitors to say the least It was the day team GB won 3 golds in 10 mins in athletics at the current West Ham football ground. Maybe some TT posters hadn’t heard of them because at the time they were somewhere in China hiding behind a sofa shoved up against the front door of their apartment?3 points

You've completely contradicted your first sentence with your last sentence. Which is it, is there a pathway out for these homeless people or isn't there because of tory imposed punitive measures? I dont think many rough sleepers are doing out of choice and nor do I accept they are all criminals like you suggest. If your first sentence is really true, why are there so many homeless? Sounds like you're blaming them really.2 points

What's the solution for VAR offsides? 1- Bring in a daylight rule. Either between the players on the pitch or the lines that VAR draws 2- Use a cricket type system where, if the offside is marginal, they just go with the on field decision 3- Scrap offsides in VAR entirely Offside law was created to stop strikers goal hanging and having an unfair advantage. Not to rule out goals because your armpit hair strayed 2mm offside. Apparently it's ruled out 30 goals already in half a season. Conversely, I think NUFC have benefitted from it. We used to always be on the wrong end of dodgy refereeing decisions. Shelveys goal against Sheffield would never have stood last season2 points

Joint 10th if you look at last 12month of games. And 25 of those points have come this season. We aren't great atm, but theres some proper dummys coming out on here. Best keeper and defence in the last 20 years, some exciting attackers in ASM and Almiron, good youth coming through in the Longstaffs, Carroll getting back to fitness (he won more balls in the air on Saturday since opta started collecting stats). We are close to having a half decent team. If we could sell Gayle and Muto to fund a poacher/Danny Ings type player to go alongside Carroll we would be top 6.2 points

To give him some credit he’s also taken the job because it’s managing his hometown club. It’s been a dream of his ever since he left United.1 point

That said, Moyes and Pearson were just hired so perhaps I’m giving the other PL club owners too much credit.1 point

This is why people have no time for him. He’s just like Pardew in that respect. A dinosaur manager so happy to be here, he doesn’t give a shit about the constraints working for Ashley. Rafa energised the place because there was always a sense that he was challenging Ashley, demanding a minimum level of investment to meet his ambition to make us more competitive. As soon as Ashley showed his true colours, he walked. Bruce knows exactly what he’s gotten himself into. He’s here to keep us in the PL and nothing more - a manager happy to make up the numbers in this league because no other PL club would go anywhere near him.1 point

It isn’t up for debate. The rise in numbers is clearly a result of austerity, as ewerk’s graph demonstrates.1 point

Going off players feet instead of various body parts would reduce the need to draw vertical lines and thus make calls much faster. Better fps. Screens around stadiums. Sorted. I've sorted VAR out.1 point

The problem is that everyone is having a hissy fit every time it overturns a close call. Whether you like it or not, it's making less errors than officials used to. And more often than not we were on the receiving end of shit refs so I can't say it's bothering me.1 point

You know it’s not quantifiable in a way that can easily be proven though. Just like you probably know it’s not true1 point

Allardyce was absolutely despised. Nobody rated Souness apart from Gemmill. Maybe I've missed it, but I don't see much personal vitriol against Bruce, just recognition he is a very limited manager with little pedigree. Maybe some jibes about his drinking, which I would have thought you'd approve of.1 point

I watched the Irishman with a bit of reluctance with seeing and hearing some reviews about it being slow etc. I thought it was a decent film tbh and never really noticed the time. It was standard 50s/60s mafia but when Scorsese directs it and the actors they had are appearing in it, it's hardly going to be shit. The only thing you've got to overlook is the age of them when they're meant to be younger. Anyway, I enjoyed it.1 point

This isn't true, is it? Why put a pointless lie in your post, it kind of undermines any genuine point you may have.1 point

no bother mate. i'm pleased ashley and bruce are realising your football dreams.1 point

ah right. opta have only been doing their stuff for a couple of days, no wonder andy features so highly. carroll is here for two reasons... he cost fuck all. he could be spun to the profoundly stupid as a returning local geordie hero.1 point

impressive. how does he rate as a goal scorer/minutes on the pitch since opta starting doing their stat thing?1 point

Amusingly, the Dutch word for head coach is hoofd coach, which just about sums up the Kings style of play1 point

The other thing I've noticed is that it's not just about the numbers, bad as they are. A few years back people didn't seem as desperate. I suspect some were begging, but I had some kind of dwelling to keep them relatively healthy. (I'm not remotely suggesting the Daily Heil crap they were driving to their pitches in brand new Jags etc btw). Now I can see genuine despair in peoples faces. In Edinburgh there were lasses in floods of tears about the position they were in. Grey faces, ooen sores, people with terrible tremors, people who were clearly psychotic (and hence very scary). Homeless people fighting each other over territory. You could tell most wanted out of it but there is no route for them. I don't know, maybe it's drugs, maybe it's me that's changed, but I don't think so. This really should be a matter of national urgency and it should be the governments responsibility to intervene, not kind hearted individuals like @wykikitoon.1 point

Worst thing is I can't remember anyone asking the liar what he was going to do about it - and probably even worse nobody would have cared what his answer was - even if he'd said fuck them. There was a "problem" last year with quite a few rough sleepers around Chelmsford train station - the solution was to install railings across any areas which could be used - that solved it.0 points
