  1. The owner’s been making people apathetic for years. That was reversed to a degree under Benitez because he had an affinity with the fans and understood what the club meant to the city. He was also able to get the most out of an ordinary set of players and engendered a team spirit. Fans related to and appreciated that. More so with the owner being a weapons grade cunt. That relative feel good factor basically ended for many when Rafa left (and anyone who can’t see who is mostly to blame for his departure must’ve slept through the last 12 years). Then, just to top it off his replacement was Steve fucking Bruce. It’s not really hard to comprehend why that might have been the final straw for lots of us.

  2. The “ bit of a spark” under Rafa pretty well describes my feelings- as good as it was to see Benitez at our club, I never was never fully won over simply because it was always going to end as it did… because Ashley still owns the club. We could have Guardiola, spend multi-millions, and I’d still be thinking, “ Aye, but the Fat Cunt will find a way to fuck it all up”. As long as Ashley owns us, there’s no point in even trying to get excited about anything. Edit; Yes, it’s possibly the easy option to be pessimistic, but can anyone give me a single example of Ashley doing anything right? Just one would be nice.

  3. I think there should be a review system like cricket tbh. Give captains/managers three per game & after that it’s hard lines. It stops the offside rule routinely being whittled down to millimetres & absurd decisions like yesterday’s hand ball that nobody knew about till some geek in a van clocked it.

  4. I think if you give a shit these days it’s because you haven’t been paying attention to what our owner has done to the club and what TV rights have done to the game in general. There’s literally no point in supporting a club that has thrown the towel in before a ball is kicked - we’re literally set up to fail, just not badly enough that we get relegated. The sad thing is Ashley is not only killing the current support, he’s going to kill it for future generations too. Once any hope of competing goes, and the realisation of being treated like mugs dawns, people find other things to do with their time and money, and that filters down to their kids. I think we’ll see that process accelerate now that Rafa’s gone.

  5. Spot on. As much as it’s crap having your whole day ruined by a shite match, you had the days where you’d be buzzing after a class one, but as you say the point where many of us are now we get neither. I really don’t get why I watch the games anymore, not only are they dreadful to watch but I barely care, I felt nowt watching Norwich burst us, and I’d not have gotten much excitement out of us battering them. The worst thing this horrible fat worm has done is cause what I expect is a good chunk of our fan base to not give a fuck anymore.

  6. I said it years ago on here I think, that the anger and that by fans is really inconsequential. It comes and goes after good/bad runs. The big problem is apathy, that’s where I am and have been for years (with a brief window of supporting Rafa) and I won’t be the only one. Its sad because not only do I not give a fuck what happens to Newcastle United anymore I’m getting bored of football generally because what we used to support isn’t a football club anymore so what’s the point? At at least the memes will be good this year.

  7. If only @Ken‘s missus hadn’t left him all those years ago, his liver wouldn’t be the enlarged mess it is now, and his neighbours might still speak to him.

  8. Yes. As soon as he was out and Hayden/Diame/Ki/Longstaff were our midfield choice things picked up immediately.

  9. I’m actually pissed off that Shelvey scored. That’ll justify him swanning about at walking pace, doing fuck all in the way of actual defending or graft. Can’t wait for a full season of him fucking about with absolutely no discipline to speak of.

  10. The new handball rule was brought in because of VAR. They’ll change offside because of VAR too. VAR was brought in because Joe Bloggs sat at home with his sky subscription knew more about what had actually happened on the pitch than the ref, players or any other fucker in the stadium. The tail wagging the dog. When goal line tech came in I said on here it wouldn’t be long before everything is refffed electronically like Cricket and was fuckin annihilated for doin so. When Andrew wakes up am sure I’ll be subjected to another informed and erudite verbal beasting from him about the glories of football matches bring decided not on the field of play but by faceless, shadowy figures in a truck sat in a car park in an anonymous London suburb. Not my game anymore. The YouTube/Instagram generation are welcome to it.

  12. I think it has somewhat of a place in the game if only determining that a ball has fully crossed the line or not and is a goal or not. Perhaps it has a place in decisions regarding hand-balls and off-sides but only on occasions of heated protests by the victims bringing the call, or no call, into question. VAR's purpose is to assist the referee, not needlessly overturn honest decisions he makes. Man City goal should have stood, it would have last season and the years before. I didn't see any protests about hand-ball, nor did I see the hand-ball.

  17. I think he got it right. It's not like they wouldn't have adjusted their focus when they lost a few early wickets and played exactly as they are now. The weather robbed the game of a result, not the timing of the declaration.

  19. There was a bit of a spark under Benitez but it’s not bollocks at all to say people have been stopping caring over time. My dad and grandad both gave up their season tickets before Benitez came in because they were sick of Ashley fucking on with the club and had lost interest, Strawb literally just wrote a post about how he has lost interest over time with a little bit of a spark under Benitez. You’ve also just liked a post by Alex where he is talking about how people have been becoming apathetic over years due to Ashley. I’m also not sure what the people in the stadium celebrating or the quality of the Man City team have to do with my point.

  20. 250 and they’re out of the game though, which probably increases the chances of a draw because they won’t play as many attacking shots

  24. Not Newcastle fan but OMG it is a travesty what that fat oxygen thief Mike Ashley has turned your club into!! Rafa did an amazing job with his hands tied behind his back, Steve Bruce couldn't tie his shoe laces. I actually feel sorry for Bruce, he's in no way up to EPL management standards and MA has stuck him in their to remove the abuse from him. Reading your threads and I completely agree you will get relegated as you are utter pish and couldn't fight your way out of a paper bag never mind the relegation battle that you are already in! Mike Ashley to Foxtrot Oscar as their will be nothing left for him to take and then maybe you can start to build again!! I honestly feel for you!! Still find it hard to understand how one man can be such a DICK. Great club, Great fans.........

  25. Other 'making up the numbers' clubs are at least able to maintain a veneer of ambition, each season attempting to improve the performance and squad of the last. Ashley can only maintain that illusion with the most ill informed 'supporters' (and unfortunately many mainstream media outlets). There is no attempt to improve, no vision for the future except the hope that young players will increase in value. This has absolutely nothing to do with the football team that plays, the only objective there is to survive. Even a lack of support/attendance from locals isn't a huge problem for them, Ashley wouldn't care if the stadium was half full and we stay up. It's why my thinking at the moment is it's more important that we get relegated than have well coordinated boycotts. The main benefit of the boycotts would be to kill the atmosphere and any boost the players get from it. As counter intuitive as it may first seem, supporters of Newcastle United don't have anything to lose by being relegated, it's Ashley that will suffer.

  26. Given you've said in other posts that you think boycotting won't work due to TV money. What would constitute ramping up the pressure until his position became untenable? Genuinely curious. Would hate to accuse you of taking up contradictory positions on this. These are all recent posts btw.

  28. Actually, it seems like it’s an embarrassing new rule. Carry on but that’s a rule that seems invented to give VAR a reason to exist. What a load of shit

  29. I think my favourite line from ewerk's Bruce quotes above is "I can’t remember a good afternoon coming back to Norwich." If you've never once managed to go to somewhere like Norwich and get a performance out of your side, maybe you ought to have the self-awareness to think that football management isn't for you.
