I bet CT's lot are known as "The Clampetts" by everyone on the estate. "I see the Clampetts have got themselves a hot tub." "Have they?! That fat, classless cunt is a nightmare." "Ah I can't stand him." "Aye he's a proper wanker. I wish he'd just fuck off and die." That sort of thing.5 points

Had the misfortune of watching this with a bunch of Jocks as I've been to Arran this week. Proper Mackem/Ant attitude, they didn't even put the sound on the tele in the pub until our national anthem finished man.4 points

We shouldn't be comparing with Italia 90 anyway. We should be comparing with the last World Cup where we were out after literally a week, and the last Euros where we got pumped off Iceland. This is ridiculous progress with those two performances as context.4 points

Why is Piers Morgan on English telly? He belongs nowhere outside the States. Does anyone like the cunt? I imagine his own mother switches over when he's on, fantasising about what she should have done with that umbilical cord.3 points

Because you piqued my interest, @zerosum: So there you have it; his nominative ancestor/s either didn't drink alcohol, did drink alcohol or drank water. I like the original explanation though.3 points

Well, unlike you lot I've really enjoyed this world cup overall, its been great to have a supportable England team again and who knows, might actually look to the nations league and qualification for the euros with some enjoyment in mind. It feels a far cry from the gerrard/lampard/rooney/terry era now and thank god for that.3 points

Trippier has been at fault for two goals.Turn the sound off on your tv and then you'll be able to comment having formed your own opinion on Pickford's three dodgy punches last night and spilling shots and/or pushing them back into the danger area in earlier games. When he signed for Everton i was the only person who said he was a dodgy keeper.Making spectacular saves doesn't make a keeper. The media have been waxing lyrically about his spectacular saves.Watch carefully and you'll find every dive he does has to be of the spectacular variety. His poor pushing hasn't yet been anylised, not has his shot-pushing back into the danger area. I Will not course be back on his case this conversion for Everton.I expect you all to be analysing, with the sound turned down.2 points

Saw his helicopter convoy pass a little while ago - had a moment's fantasy of Ashley defying the no fly and a beautiful, fiery meeting taking place.2 points

I went to uni in Scotland, England were playing in a tournament 2002 must have been and I went to watch it in one of the quieter uni bars and a kid turned up in a full Scotland kit to watch England play. He was only there to cause aggro so I mercilessly wound him all game and he got thrown out for trying to fight a lecturer. Small man syndrome.2 points

Deffo been worse so far. Wonāt really hit till I get home. On my last bag of fluids now. Should be done by 5ish. Got two 1 hour outpatient treatments left, then a 6 week wait for a scan to see if itās worked. Basically will have had the whole summer off work and been too rough to go anywhere or do owt, bad timing.2 points

We must have posted at the same time because mine was in response to Gloom. The coverage of Sterling has of course been disgusting by the media in the run up to the tournament. Itās a pity he wasnāt able to ram it down their throats with a couple of performances. He wasnāt terrible, he just didnāt do much for me but the same can be said of Lingard, Alli and Kane. Though in Kaneās case he wasnāt getting much service rather than fluffing chances.2 points

Really sorry to hear about that lads, my old dear getting cancer shook me up a bit too. It's a real progress for England from where they were so that's a positive no doubt and for 30 mins Croatia looked a beaten team but the ex players at halftime also got carried away in my opinion as you could see the tide starting to turn before HT and there was only one team going to win that and it wasn't England. The Quiff isn't totally wrong either and sometimes the truth's usually somewhere in between. They did well to get there is the bottom line though as nothing is guaranteed in tournaments as we've all seen in this and other world cups and euros. As far as comparisons to Italia 90, give ower, man! Different players and circumstances, different times and a different game almost. Much preferred the 90 England but I was only just left school not a middle aged bloke so that's always going to be better tbf.2 points

I'll say it again, Germany got to the 2002 final after beating Paraguay, the USA and South Korea in the knockout rounds. Won all three games 1-0. Reckon they spent all their time self-flagellating over whether they "deserved" to be there?2 points

I haven't the capacity to expound on my thoughts but I will say that Croatia were fucking brilliant in the second half. Which makes the first half, where England didn't give them a kick even more frustrating. Still, this is a team that will win a tournament; they'll learn from this, we can add from our, frankly, shockingly good, youth set up and the Euros are there for us. In the end, nobody expected us to be in the final four and they can all hold their heads up high because fuck me, that's a fantastic Croatia team. Having said that, I can't fucking wait to shout abuse at Kane and Alli during our first game next season.2 points

Feel like we've got the foundations of something to get behind again, especially with some of the talent that we have coming through. We just need somebody in the middle who can put his foot on the ball and control the tempo when needed. Hopefully people don't expect too much now and give Southgate time as he's very much still learning at this level too. Onwards and upwards.1 point

All the best with it, Strawb. As for zerosum, try not to piss yourself.1 point

They'll give up in a few days once someone makes a big money transfer at club level or something. Southgate will get the Euros and, barring a total disaster, another World Cup before hes under any danger of having to go.1 point

I think Southgate is in a bit of a shit position now mind. Heās already getting a bit of stick because of the whole āwe didnāt play anyone craicā, I get they werenāt the big name teams but these were games England sides of the past would get fuck all from. To add to that I think weāll also be back to the unrealistic expectations of the past for the Euros, with dickheads like the Sun vehemently attacking the coaching staff and players while demanding they win the whole thing. Iād keep the bloke through the next World Cup unless thereās some fucking disaster or serious regression. I think you have to give him the chance to learn and grow a bit along with this group of players, thereās absolutely nothing to be gained from chucking him and bringing in an older foreign manager iyam (you only need to look at Capellos cuntishness to see the possible issues there).1 point

This is an interesting one. Will whoever replaces him rein all this shit back in, or will they actually keep a lot of it in place because some of it may legitimately be in US interests?1 point

I'm not so sure of that tbh, Colombia were just shy(1 point) of Argentina in the qualifiers but if we'd beat them instead we'd be saying it was massive. Sweden came through Holland, Italy and Germany on their route to the tournament and QF and if we'd played and beat any of them as well as we did Sweden, who proved themselves more worthy of the position than any of those teams, we'd also be delighted to have done them in that manner. Course it could all have fallen differently but we got where we did on merit, being historically big has counted for very little in this World Cup so what does it matter that it was Colombia and Sweden in the knockouts? We still won those ties and we still have a world cup semi-final to our name, and a world cup penalty shootout win, and most likely a golden boot winner as well.1 point
-
TBF, I think England should have stood up and demanded they be put in a harder group. If you can't understand the larger effects of getting to a World Cup semi-final with a promising young squad who all play for each other, all work hard and all represent what a modern England should look like, then the world has officially passed you by.1 point

I like Southgate and we will be better for keeping him until at least the euros. The players obviously like him and get what he is trying to do. Last night was a stretch too far against a more experienced team. Modric and Rakitic against Henderson etc in the midfield was a mis match. Thought Kane was poor last night and Alli was pretty much all tournament, Trippier was class all tournament and the back three especially stones and maguire were good. Semi finals with a young squad and manager gives us room to grow so enjoyed it overall1 point

I don't believe in Southgate as a manager but this run has ensured him for a while, so in a weird way any progression has been harmed. I honestly think they could have won this under Allardyce.1 point

Came apart a bit in this game I'm afraid. We should've put them to bed in the first half, from that point on we never had a look in. Vida was utterly immense btw, I'd sign him in an instant. The ginger prick makes a few good points. There was no plan B for this tournament, Kane filled his boots by beating an absolutely shit team in Panama and with a couple of penalties but contributed very, very little to open play, the game against Colombia also masked many of our shortcomings (since they weren't trying to play football) and we were beaten by both halfway decent footballing sides we played. That said, this is miles better than England have been for a very long time and I think Southgate deserves credit. The last pack of England managers we've had have been dogshit to a man. We finally accomplish something, easy route to the semi-final or not, and now we need to build on that.1 point

His midfield game changer was Eric fucking Dier. Alli, Lingard and Kane could all easily have been replaced. Croatia played football so good luck to them.1 point
-
RTĆ pundits were on their side for most of it though they thought Croatia deserved in on balance. The reaction to this may well be the reason it's hard for people (including reasonable English people) to get behind them.1 point

This all actually a legendary CT fuck up. 13 year old daughters birthday this week and wife suggested letting her and friends go out for a meal. Rather than simply saying yes pet and letting her sort it, I suggested putting the tent out and letting her have a group of friends over for sleepover / pizzas / hot tub party. Googled a few rental places advertising at Ā£79 for 3 nights. All full due to weather / World Cup but eventually found one for Ā£130. Job sorted / Daughter Happy. Then a punter in the cab yesterday told me sheād had one for a year, excellent, use it all the time, kids love it etc. So muggins decided to buy one, rushed home to set it up, only to discover my patio was on a slant Ive now spen the last 24 hours ripping up and relaying the patio. Ended up with 20 bags off sand that used to be under my patio. I am a broken man.1 point
